The fifth house in astrology is one of the pleasant parts of your natal chart, as it connects to love and your heart, what you find fun, romance, and play. Fifth House Astrology & Your Natal ChartMost astrology charts have 12 houses, and each rule different parts of life. Your natal chart is a snapshot of the locations of the planets, other bodies, and 12 houses in the Zodiac at the moment you're born and from the location you're born at. Your natal houses each rule different parts of your life and personality. The fifth house is naturally ruled by the Sun, which rules our true selves. The Sun makes the fifth house an expressive house, one where our true joy can be found. At-a-Glance Fifth House Keywords:
Fifth House in Astrology: Love & RomanceThe fifth house is the house of love. This is where we fall in love, the kind of love we want and need, and how we are in dating and with romance. This is light-hearted love, not serious (which is the eighth house) or committed (which is the seventh house). The fifth house shows the people we love, as well as the things we love to do. This is a heart-centric house. Fifth House in Astrology: ChildrenThe fifth house rules who we love, and is a house of creation, so our children are ruled by the fifth house. Sometimes they literally tie into the sign of your fifth house or planets in the fifth house. This can also be your inner child, how it comes out, and what it needs. Fifth house transits can trigger getting in tune with your inner child. Fifth House in Astrology: HobbiesSince the fifth house rules what we love, this house rules our hobbies. It's what we enjoy doing most, what brings us joy and pleasure. It's where we can let loose and have fun without rules or anything serious. Fifth House in Astrology: CreativityThe fifth house is a house of creation, governing creativity. It can show in what ways you are creative, how you display creative energy, and where you focus your creativity. A strong fifth house often means someone is a super creative person (and remember, creativity doesn't have to mean the arts!). Fifth House in Astrology: AttentionThe fifth house rules getting attention. Being naturally ruled by the Sun, the Sun shines a light, so this house can show how you get attention, what you get attention for, how you feel about getting attention, and where you may get attention. Fifth House in Astrology: Praise & ApprovalPraise and approval are also ruled by the fifth house, and it can show how or where you need praise and approval from others, as well as how you give it to others. Where Your Fifth House Energy is FoundFor everyone, look to the Zodiac sign your fifth house falls in. The areas of life ruled by that sign are where you're creative and enjoy yourself. Also look to the natural planetary ruler of your fifth house (the natural planetary ruler of the Zodiac sign your fifth house falls in) as this can also connect to the 5th house energy. If you have any natal planets in your fifth house, this can make the fifth house energy a lot stronger for you. That planet can strongly connect with your creativity, hobbies, and what you enjoy. Transit (moving) planets touring your fifth house can bring some temporary energy for fifth house matters. It can be especially strong when it's transit Mars (amplifying creativity and making you more affectionate and loving), transit Saturn (making you more discriminating in love and where you direct your hobbies), transit Uranus (making changes in your love relationships and with what you enjoy), transit Pluto (bringing out power struggles and control issues in love and transforming love), or transit Chiron (focusing on healing wounds of love). Transit planets aspecting your natal 5th house ruler can stimulate fifth house energy as well, and conjunctions, square, and oppositions by transit Saturn, Uranus, Pluto, or Chiron can be especially challenging and require a lot of focus on opening up your heart, taking care of your inner child, and working on old love issues to make love healthier and more positive for you. A Strong Fifth House in AstrologySome may have a super strong natal fifth house. This can be the case for you if you have:
- a stellium (3+ planets) in the 5th house - your Sun, Moon, or Chiron in the 5th house - your North or South Node in your 5th house - your 1st house ruler in the 5th house - your 5th house cusp or ruler anaretic (at 29 degrees) - retrograde Mercury, Venus, or Mars in the 5th house or ruling the 5th house When you have a strong 5th house, you can be a super creative, and likely have some serious creative talents. This may be something you get attention for, and it's fairly common to see celebs have strong 5th houses. You may also feel a strong connection to your children or the children around you, and you may be a natural parent. You can understand how kids operate, and can be highly encouraging and supportive of them. Making time to enjoy yourself and have fun can be very important for your overall well-being. If you're all work and no play, you can seem stifled in life, like your light is dimmed. You need to prioritize joy! The more aware we are of spiritual energy, the easier it becomes for us to connect with the Moon and with the rest of the planets on a day-to-day basis. Healing ourselves also makes these connections conscious - we feel the influence and respond thoughtfully. A big surprise was that we could also channel the planets with the intention to heal our lives. Doing so requires an understanding of how the natal chart is put together, and being able to pinpoint moments when it makes sense to connect with the planets - usually when they transit the Houses in the natal chart that relate to the issues that need a bit of healing. If you’re not familiar with a natal chart, the 12 Houses relate to specific issues such as identity, love, income, friendship, home, and higher education. If we want to heal or impulse an issue, we can do so easily by connecting with the Moon as it transits that House, downloading its energy. We can connect with any of the planets to transform a part of the natal chart. For example, connecting with Mercury might reshape the way you think about life. Mars gives us the drive to pursue objectives and get around setbacks and obstacles. But some of the planets take months or even decades to circle through the Zodiac, whereas the Moon makes the rounds in 28 days. It also relates to home, the need for security and the unconscious. Healing with the Moon is like redecorating and revamping your home life so that you feel cozy and secure. The idea is to connect with the Moon as it travels through your natal chart, choosing the right moment to download its energy so that you can transform, activate or heal specific themes in your life. Step 1: Energy Healing Foundations
In the past we’ve discussed the chakras that can be activated to strengthen our connection with the planets and the solar system, bringing that energy into our lives with the intention to heal ourselves and create shifts in our lives. As an energy healer, channeling the planets is fun and exciting, but it does require lots of grounding. We don’t want to lose our footing or burn out. Ideally, we’d start with grounding meditations, taking our attention to the Earth Star Chakra which can be found in the Aura, below our feet. This energy center makes it easier for us to connect with Mother Nature and feel her energy, giving us deeper foundations to build on.
Once that is done, we’d turn our attention to emotional healing as this opens us up to give, receive, and to experience life fully. This can be done in many ways - with counseling, healing affirmations or with Reiki and Chakra Healing. From an Energy Healing point of view, we’d focus on the Sacral Chakra (emotions), Solar Plexus (self-esteem), and Heart (self-love). Having opened the heart and grounded ourselves, the final step would be to visualize and feel the Soular (Soul Star) Chakra in the Aura, about 6-12 inches over the head. It holds the energy of your soul including past lives, ancestors and the imprint of your natal astrology chart. I like to visualize the Soular Chakra as a moon, always full, at times more illuminated than others. By grounding ourselves and activating our intuition, we also connect with our power. The influence of the stars & planets can be worked with consciously on a day-to-day basis. Step 2: Timing for Moon Meditations
Each of the Houses in the chart represents a life sphere, for example, the 1st House relates to how we see and present ourselves in the world, the 4th represents home life, and the 7th has to do with marriage and business partnerships. If we want to heal or give extra oomph to a specific area of our lives, we would carry out an energy healing meditation with the Moon. The secret is to time the ritual so that we download the Moon’s energy when it transits the relevant House.
Below is a quick summary of House meanings. As a reminder, the Houses always stay in the same place, while the Zodiac rotates twice daily. The first house is at the 9AM spot on a clock, and the rest of the Houses go counterclockwise through the natal chart circle. You will need a birth chart that takes your time of birth into account for these calculations to be accurate. - 1st House: Your personal identity, how you’re seen in the world. - 2nd House: The material world, riches, belongings, values, income. - 3rd House: Community, communications, siblings, K-12 school years. - 4th House: Family life, the home, childhood, your foundation. - 5th House: Creativity, art, music, love affairs, having & raising kids. - 6th House: Vocations, teamwork, routines, service to others (or not). - 7th House: Marriage, committed relationships, partnership, open enemies. - 8th House: Shared resources, taxes, intimacy, other people’s money, legacies. - 9th House: What is the meaning of life? Higher education, philosophy. - 10th House: Social and career status, ambition, ripple effect on world. - 11th House: Your broader tribe, social groups, all of humanity. Oneness. - 12th House: The realm of past lives, karma & family secrets. If a person wanted to bring more love and empathy into their marriage; they’d set that intention and then carry out the Moon Ritual when the Moon transits the sign on the cusp of the 7th House. If they want to focus on their work life, they might look at the 2nd house of income, 6th of work atmosphere to improve relationships with colleagues, or 10th to stand out more. Step 3: A Moon Ritual to Impulse Your Life
I had already been practicing energy healing for about six years before venturing into magick; it shocked me how similar they are. In this ritual (or meditation) we combine energy healing and astrology to create tangible changes. This meditation script follows the guidelines from the healing accreditation at the School of Intuition & Healing in London, encouraging us to connect with the highest and purest source of light in the Universe first. The intention is to take our awareness completely out of the box, circumventing the energy of the planets. We then bring that light-power down, with the intention to transform our lives from above. It’s only after we’ve grounded ourselves and attuned to that light that we reach for the Moon or any of the planets.
Please light a candle and have a pen and piece of paper nearby. If you’d like to bring crystals into this meditation, clear quartz can be programmed with any intention. Otherwise, bring your hands to your heart in Step 6, letting your Heart Chakra capture the Moon’s light & healing.
We can do these meditations as often as we’d like, but it’s a good idea to start with just one or two a month until we get the hang of it. There are also other considerations – Christopher Warnock has a wonderful book called Secrets of Planetary Magic, with more techniques.

There are currently over 20,000 asteroids out there (and counting!), and while many are designated for specific myths and figures and energy, most are just named after people. This means you can find asteroids for your name (first, last, or middle, nicknames, and soundalikes), and asteroids of your name can be almost like an alternate Sun for you since they connect with your true self. To find asteroids of your names, you can create a natal chart using astro.com for free, and in Extended Chart Selection, click on Additional objects at the bottom, and then you can go through aaaaaall of the asteroids alphabetically. It might take some time to find all of yours, so make sure you have like an hour or two! Using the Asteroid of Your Name
You can find the asteroid of your name in your natal chart, and see what it's doing. The impact will be similar to the impact to your natal Sun (just keep in mind we use tighter orbs for asteroids than for planets, usually just a few degrees).
You can also follow the asteroid of your name in the progressed chart, and see how it changes signs, houses, and make aspects, just like the progressed planets. And you can use the asteroid of your name in transit! You can track the transit (moving) asteroid of your name through the Zodiac, and whatever it's doing can have an impact on you. You can feel when it changes Zodiac signs, when it moves into a new house in your natal chart, and when it aspects your natal or the transit planets. Retrograde Asteroid of Your Name:
One thing the asteroid of your name can do is turn retrograde, which means it's now moving backward through the Zodiac from our view here on Earth. Normal motion is forward (for the most part), so this can mean the asteroid of your name is moving differently from usual.
How does this impact you? It's kind of your own personal retrograde, and you can feel some of the same kind of retrograde impact from other planets with your asteroid. You may feel more tired, have to do things over, and need to focus on the re's: revise, revisit, rethink, recover, recharge, reconnect, etc. You can be exhausted, easily irritated, and frustrated, so you have to take more care of yourself and pay closer attention. This may be more personal for you since it's your asteroid, and you need to focus more on what connects with you personally. The parts of life that can get the attention may be ruled by the sign it's retrograde in, the house in your natal chart it's occurring in, or the aspects it's making to the transit planets or your natal planets. It'll be *really* strong when it's aspecting one of your natal planets - get ready to potentially blow if it's conjunct, square, or opposite! If it's sextile or trine, you may have an opportunity with that planet for a second chance, a redo, or to gain better insights. The house that the retrograde is occuring in can get a lot of attention, and you can experience issues with whatever it rules (money issues with the 2nd house, bad news with the 3rd house, family challenges with the 4th house, etc.). What if the asteroid of your name was retrograde when you were born?
If you were born with the asteroid of your name retrograde, that is your natural energy, so like with the planets, that means when the asteroid of your name is retrograde, this is go time! You can feel much more like your true self, you can find it to be easier to be authentic, and you may feel like you're operating on a level that is so natural and easy.
The trouble may be when the asteroid of your name ISN'T retrograde! You may not feel like yourself as easily. You likely are a little different (or a lot!) and have to embrace what's different about you in healthy, positive, productive ways. But, just like with retrograde planets, if the asteroid of your name makes hard aspects to your natal chart while retrograde, you're not exempt from those. You just may have an easier time working through them. Suggested Reading: Transit Asteroid Abundantia Aspects Venus is the planet of love in astrology, and when the transit (moving) planets are making a hard aspect (conjunction, square, opposition) to your natal Venus, this can have a challenging impact on your relationships in your life. Transit Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto can bring the most challenging energy with this. Hard Saturn to Venus: Lessons in Love
When Saturn is aspecting your natal Venus, you get the commitment-minded Saturn meeting with lover Venus. When Saturn is conjunct, square, or opposite your natal Venus, your relationships can come under the microscope, and issues you have in your relationships can become exposed. Any issues you have with commitment or love can become more apparent to you, and you may be challenged more by others.
Some relationships and partnerships may break apart, and this can feel unsettling. You an be afraid of getting hurt by others, so you may keep more of a distance with others. You may feel more stuck in your life, and when you become stubborn, you may encounter more problems. It can be super important to ground yourself under these hard aspects, but not keep yourself from moving forward at all. When you’re dealing with Venus, you have to face love and relationship issues with the hard aspects. The hard aspects show you the issues you still have to deal with. Saturn is the commitment planet, and wants you to be committed to the people you care about, but wants you to make sure that your relationships are healthy and add to your life, and have a solid foundation. That starts with dealing with your own. issues before you can create the kinds of relationships Saturn wants you to have. You also have to be willing to let go of people who aren’t good for you, no longer serve a positive purpose, or you’ve outgrown. Hard Uranus to Venus: Love Changes
When Uranus is conjunct, square, or opposite your natal Venus, this can bring some unstable energy into your relationships, and you may deal with a lot of erratic people, or have to address issues in existing relationships.
If the relationship feels stale, has gotten kind of boring, or you don’t have a completely solid connection, Uranus can make you want something else, something different. If you feel stifled by the other person, you may push back, wanting more independence. This is usually a time when you want more space from others, more freedom in your relationships to be yourself, and that can sometimes mean parting ways. But you don’t want to do that on a whim, because then you may regret it later. Uranus can just make us really impatient! The hard aspects can also bring some people into our lives who are radically different from the types of people you’d usually associate with, and sometimes they’re not great either. Sometimes they’re really erratic and can turn your life upside down. When you’re dealing with Venus, you should try to focus on making sure your relationships and partnerships have a solid connection, aren’t stuck in their ways, and give you enough space to be yourself. If there is a relationship or partnership you’ve been wanting to break free from but haven’t been able to, this can be a good time for it. Hard Neptune to Venus: Dissolving Relationships
When Neptune is conjunct, square, or opposite your natal Venus, this is the ultimate time of falling for the wolf in sheep’s clothing, the Devil in disguise. How often do people fall under the spell of someone horrible under a hard Neptune aspect? Oh, very very very often!
These aspects are ones where, when you see you’re under them, you absolutely have to be careful of who you trust. Your intuition about people can be on the fritz, and you may struggle with trying to figure people out. You may think you’ve met a soul mate, but it’s usually just a loser, but you don’t see that until the aspect has lifted and the fog has cleared. Then you’re all, hot diggity dog, what have I done?! These aspects can also be challenging for existing relationships, and can cause you to make some questionable decisions and actions. Affairs can be more likely, and secrets within relationships can be exposed. People may fade from your life as connections dissolve. But in that case, there usually wasn’t a very strong or healthy connection in the first place. When you’re dealing with Venus and Neptune, you have to work very hard at trying to be realistic with the people in your life with the hard aspects. It can be helpful to ground yourself - though that also can be more difficult since Venus rules grounding! But you want to try anyway, as well as set up boundaries in your relationships. The hard aspects tend to make us give way too much of ourselves away, and sacrifice too much for others, so solid boundaries are crucial. Always the case with Neptune! Hard Pluto to Venus: Transforming Relationships
When Pluto is conjunct, square, or opposite your natal Venus, this usually spells trouble for your relationships. One or more of your relationships can undergo a trial, and issues that exist in relationships can become more difficult to ignore, and relationship issues you have can come to the forefront.
Relationships can break apart if you can’t hold it together, while some may go in the opposite direction can get lost in obsession (sometimes more than stalker-like!). With the opposition, it may feel like the people in your life are the ones causing problems and you’re the victim, but you may be projecting on others and need to be more aware. With the square, issues that have festered for a while can bubble to the surface, and anything that’s been internalized leads to greater frustration. With the conjunction, incredibly intense Pluto energy can enter into relationships, and it’s important to find a way to use that energy to keep relationships together. When you’re dealing with Venus, it’s all about transforming relationships for the better. Pluto doesn’t want to settle, and with Venus, that means not settling in your relationships. The transformation that a relationship needs to undergo can be unsettling, and many relationships don’t survive them. The ones that do, can be around for the long haul (if you can get through Pluto together, you can get through anything!). For some, the issues may be of a personal nature though; your own relationship issues and your own issues in your attitude toward relationships, commitment, or deeply-held past issues impacting relationships now, and not an actual relationship you have in your life. In this case, it’s about transforming your own attitudes, beliefs, and releasing baggage and trauma. And for some, the issues may be focused more on your relationship with yourself rather than your relationships with others, especially if you’re someone who doesn’t know how to be alone and doesn’t really like yourself. Which exactly it is for you can usually be found with the houses your Venus rules, is located, or in your Venus sign. Suggested Reading: Venus in the Composite Chart August 2022 has two interesting and challenging moons with the Aquarius full moon and Virgo new moon. What do they have in store for us? What is a New Moon?
A new moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact same position in the Zodiac (called a conjunction). New moons are related to beginnings, have high energy, and are enthusiastic.
What is a Full Moon?
A full moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact opposite positions in the Zodiac (called an opposition). Full moons are related to endings, culminations, and are emotional energy.
Full Moon in Aquarius: August 11th 2022 (9:36PM ET/6:36PM PT)
Aquarius full moons can help us make progress with our hopes and dreams. If we've done things right, we can get closer to where we want to be, and we can feel hopeful about where we're going. If we haven't done things right, we can experience setbacks, and may question ourselves.
We can be much more rebellious, and push back against anyone or anything we feel is holding us back. That can be great for breaking out of anything that has kept us from being better, but may be a negative if we're not thinking things through or just being selfish or spoiled. We may want to come together to focus on something, and can be more concerned with matters that impact us all, the masses, the collective. We can be more passionate about our causes, and want change. This full moon is square (hard aspect, three signs away) the ruler or Aquarius, Uranus, as Uranus is going to retrograde August 24th. The full moon is also widely conjunct (aligned with) Saturn in Aquarius, who is also square Uranus retrograde. Saturn square Uranus was part of what brought so many changes in 2021, especially with people's professional lives, and that has lulled in 2022, but only because this aspect wasn't in play. It comes back, so we're likely going to see lots of professional upheaval again. There is big challenge-the-status-quo energy with all of this, and we're breaking free. Just be smart about it! This full moon occurs at 19 degrees 11 minutes Aquarius. The aspects to this full moon are: Conjunction: 17 degrees 11 minutes - 21 degrees 11 minutes Aquarius Sextile: 17 degrees 11 minutes - 21 degrees 11 minutes Aries or Sagittarius Square: 17 degrees 11 minutes - 21 degrees 11 minutes Taurus or Scorpio Trine: 17 degrees 11 minutes - 21 degrees 11 minutes Gemini or Libra Opposition: 17 degrees 11 minutes - 21 degrees 11 minutes Leo New Moon in Virgo: August 27th 2022 (4:17AM ET/1:17AM PT)
Virgo new moons are times of super productivity, and we want to get done as much as we can. We can get organized, make lists, create new routines, stick to schedule, and the more we get done, the more we want to do. We can push ourselves to be productive, but do need to make sure we're not pushing too far so we don't break down.
This can be a time to start new projects, smaller projects that can be finished quickly. All of this productive energy can be helpful for setting ourselves up since Mercury, the natural ruler of Virgo, will retrograde soon, and partially in this sign. Set things up now, and make it easier on yourself later. This new moon is also challenged though, as it squares Mars in Gemini. This can mean we have extra energy, and we can put that to good use by being extra productive and hard-working. Try to channel it in a positive way like that. Otherwise, it can mean we have extra frustrations, are easily irritated, and can lash out. There may be more violence, so be cautious. And think about the words you use, with Mercury ruling both Virgo and Gemini. This new moon occurs at 4 degrees 4 minutes Virgo. The aspects to this new moon are: Conjunction: 2 degrees 4 minutes - 6 degrees 4 minutes Virgo Sextile: 2 degrees 4 minutes - 6 degrees 4 minutes Cancer or Scorpio Square: 2 degrees 4 minutes - 6 degrees 4 minutes Gemini or Sagittarius Trine: 2 degrees 4 minutes - 6 degrees 4 minutes Taurus or Capricorn Opposition: 2 degrees 4 minutes - 6 degrees 4 minutes Pisces Suggested Reading: The New & Full Moons page for general interpretations Ceres will soon be out of water sign Cancer and moves into fire sign Leo, the sign of creativity, love, and fun. What can we expect with Ceres in Leo? What is Ceres in astrology?
Ceres is technically a dwarf planet (like Pluto) but in astrology, we call it an asteroid (as it was before the dwarf planet designation). Ceres is super nurturing, supportive, caring, and there for you. I describe it as a supercharged Moon (maybe mixed with a little Venus).
You can find Ceres in your own chart on astro.com (in Extended Chart Selection, click on Additional Objects, and select Ceres from the menu). Ceres in Leo Dates:
General Impact of Ceres in Leo:
Ceres in Leo can make us much more affectionate, more loving with those we care about, and we can share the love more freely. We want to give love as much as we can, and share the good feelings all around. If anything, we may need to exercise better control with it, otherwise we may be giving love to people who take advantage.
Leo rules our children, so we can be extra generous and caring with our own children and the children in our lives. We may be more in tune with our inner children as well, and this can be good energy for some re-parenting. Leo is highly creative, and Ceres can be a creative planet, so this can be a time when creativity runs high. We may focus on creating something that is fulfilling, for ourselves or for others, and seem to pour our hearts into it. A new moon occurs on July 28th in Leo, and it's widely conjunct (aligned with) Ceres, so we may feel this energy stronger around that new moon, and we can embark on new creative projects, show more love, and enjoy more affection. I also want to point out this transit of Ceres in Leo only comes with 5 major aspects, so it's not super busy, and Ceres zips through this sign quickly without being interfered with too much by the other planets. But there is one tricky thing with Ceres in Leo, and that's a fixed t-square with Ceres in Leo opposing Saturn in Aquarius and both square (hard aspect, 3 signs away) Uranus in Taurus. Fixed t-squares can be frustrating energy as we feel stuck, and often we're unable to move, but it's usually an internal block. We need to take a step back and look at the big picture, and find a way around the block instead of fixating on it. The way out with t-squares is with the missing sign, and that's Scorpio in this case, so we need to transform in some way, do research and dig deeper, be more realistic about situations, and make productive use of passionate energy. Ceres in Leo Aspects:
Final Note:
Overall, Ceres in Leo can be quite nice, but we manage the t-square. Don't be stubborn, see the big picture, and keep moving forward!
