Mars in astrology is one of the personal planets, along with Venus and Mercury. This means we feel these planets in a personal way, and Mars is what drives you to take action and how action is taken. Mars Astrology & Your Natal Chart
There are ten planets in a standard astrology chart (I personally also add Ceres, and there are others, but we start with the ten). Each planet links to a different part of your personality and life. Your natal chart is a snapshot of the locations of the planets, other bodies, and houses in the Zodiac at the moment you're born and from the location you're born at.
Mars is the natural ruling planet of fire sign Aries, who is the first sign and links to beginnings and the start of everything, and naturally links to the first house, where it all starts with the houses. At-a-Glance Mars Keywords:
Mars in Astrology: Energy, Drive and Motivation
In your natal chart, your natal Mars rules your energy and drive. It shows how you take action, with what you take action, and what drives you to take action. This is mostly found via your Mars sign, and the house in your natal chart natal Mars falls in can show where you take action, with what you're most driven to pursue and act.
Conjunctions (alignments by other planets to your Mars) can have a direct impact on your energy, and you can be extra driven to take action with whatever the planet rules. The Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Venus can be overtaken by Mars though, while Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and PLuto might try to overtake Mars. When it comes to transits, the transit (moving) planets aspecting your natal Mars can impact your energy and drive. The beneficial aspects can push you to act, and you can be extra driven and focused on making things happen. But the hard aspects can bring out frustration, and impulse can get you in trouble. Mars in Astrology: Gut Instincts
Mars is a planet that doesn't want to sit around and wait. It can jump to action quickly. It's helped by great gut instincts, those first instincts and impressions that immediately hit you. This allows Mars to be confident in the actions it takes, though it can also rely on it too much instead of thinking things through a little bit.
Mars in Astrology: Taking Initiative
Mars in astrology is the one who takes the initiative. It has no problem going for what it wants without waiting for permission or for someone else to lead the way. It can create its own opportunities, and it can take the initiative for anything it wants, utilizing its energy and drive.
Mars in Astrology: Pioneering
Mars rules the very first Zodiac sign, and connects to the first house. Mars has no problem going down paths no one else has before, blazing new trails, and being the pioneer. It's enthusiastic about this, and excited by the new that awaits it.
Mars in Astrology: Leader
Mars is one of the leaders in astrology, and can be enthusiastic about taking the lead. It doesn't want to be led by others, and doesn't do well being bossed around. Mars doesn't care too much about being the boss either though, and is more of a lead-by-example type, and is super independent so it wants to go its own way.
Mars in Astrology: Aggressive
Mars in astrology can get aggressive when it's not operating well. There is so much energy and drive and enthusiasm that this can turn into impatience, impulsive behavior, frustration, and aggravation, which can make Mars aggressive. Mars is also one of the rulers of war, and can lead to violence.
Transit (moving) planets making hard aspects to your natal Mars can bring out major frustration and aggression. Same with hard transit aspects by transit Mars to any of your natal bodies, and it'll be focused on whatever those bodies rule. The house in your natal chart transit Mars is touring can get this aggressive energy as well. The areas of life the house rules can get major energy, and if you don't use this well, or it's accompanied by hard Mars aspects, this can tick you off and make it easy to blow up. Mars in Astrology: Positive
Mars in astrology is a positive planet. It doesn't want to focus on the negatives very much, and wants to enjoy itself. Mars is enthusiastic and excited, so it tends to stay positive.
Where Your Mars Energy is Found
For everyone, look to the Zodiac sign and natal house your Mars falls in. The energy of the Mars sign is how you take action, while the areas of life ruled by the house your Mars falls in are where you take action. Also look to the natural planetary ruler of your Mars sign (the natural planetary ruler of the Zodiac sign your Mars falls in) as this can also connect to the Mars energy.
Planets that are conjunct (aligned with) your natal Mars can impact your ability to take action and take the lead. Mars is a strong planet, so it can dominate some planets in a conjunction like the Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Venus, so Mars can inject a ton of energy and drive into anything it conjuncts. Transit (moving) planets aspecting your natal Mars can bring some temporary energy for Mars matters. This can impact your energy and drive with Mars, but can also impact the areas of life ruled by the house your Mars falls in, as well as the areas of life ruled by the house your Mars rules (so the house that falls in Aries). The most challenging aspects to your natal Mars can be hard transit Pluto (this can bring intense power struggles and anger that explodes if there's any suppression), and hard transit Saturn (since Saturn restricts and can make energy difficult to find; Saturn also teaches so if you don't use energy well, Saturn can punish you for that to try and teach you a lesson). A Strong Natal Mars in Astrology
Some may have a more important natal Mars. This can be the case for you if you have:
- a stellium (3+ planets) including your natal Mars - your natal Mars conjunct an angle - your North or South Node in your Mars sign - your 1st house ruler conjunct the natal Mars - your natal Mars anaretic (at 29 degrees) - natal Mar retrograde - retrograde Venus or Mercury conjunct your natal Mars If your natal Mars is in a stellium, this can make taking the initiative and pursuing something an important part of that stellium, and you need to have something to channel the energy into productively. If your natal Mars is conjunct a retrograde Venus or Mercury, or is retrograde itself, you likely have an alternative way of taking action and taking the initiative. This might not look like much on the surface, and you may seem like someone who can be pushed over easily until you learn your own strength and find your way of asserting yourself. An anaretic natal Mars can show you either are a super leader who must take the lead with everything and won't wait for anyone, or you take a back seat to everyone else and refuse to take the lead at any point. You need to learn to be comfortable with your leadership skills while also being considerate of others. Mars conjunct an angle gives plenty of energy and drive for that angle; conjunct your North Node, you can connect take the initiative for what you want with enthusiasm and excitement; conjunct the South Node, you may take the lead too much, ignoring others or acting impulsively and putting yourself in a bad position; and conjunct the 1st house ruler, you can come across as energized and enthusiastic. What will this retrograde do for us? The Basics - What is Mercury retrograde?
A retrograde occurs when a planet appears to be moving backwards from our vantage point here on Earth. It isn't actually moving backwards, it just appears that way. Mercury turns retrograde most often, about 3-4 times per year, and lasts for several weeks. When a planet retrogrades, what that planet rules tends to be thrown off, along with what the sign it's retrograding in rules.
With Mercury retrograde, we experience a shadow and a storm. The shadow period starts when Mercury first hits the point in the Zodiac it will turn direct at, and ends when it last hits the point in the Zodiac it will turn retrograde at. Most people don't feel the effects of Mercury retrograde until it enters the storm period though. The storm period of Mercury retrograde is when Mercury is moving at its slowest, less than 40 minutes per day. Mercury is a fast-moving planet and hates it when it's moving slowly. There's usually two storm periods, one around the time Mercury turns retrograde, and one around when it turns direct. Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn & Sagittarius 2023 - 2024 Key Dates:
Mercury Retrograde Effects:
This Mercury retrograde starts in Capricorn, and we can focus on our goals and direction in life., We may question where we're going and how we're getting there, and blocks can pop up that seem to derail us. We may feel like giving up, but that's usually not the right choice. Instead, we need to make sure we haven't missed anything, that we've gone about this right (and if we haven't, what we need to change), if our motivations are sound (and if they're not, what we can do about that), and try going about things in a different way.
On the other hand, this can be great energy for focusing on an old goal, so many people might be getting a second chance with a goal or professionally with Mercury retrograde in Capricorn. Capricorn rules responsibilities, so Mercury retrograde in Capricorn can make us feel overwhelmed by everything that's on our plate, and we might need a small break, but we need to avoid running away. Work within limitations. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn who does like to restrict us, so we may feel restricted in many ways. Again, we need to take a different approach. The retrograde starts widely trine (beneficial aspect) Jupiter in Taurus and conjunct (aligned with) Venus in Capricorn, so we go into the retrograde with really helpful energy since Jupiter and Venus are the beneficial planets. We can find new ways to expand and explore with Jupiter, and old ways can prove quite fruitful now or can be used in new ways. This aspect goes exact on December 18th with both planets at 5 degrees. Venus brings help from others, and we can work well together, reconnect or recommit, and can be more diplomatic. This is excellent for world affairs! But Mercury retrogrades back to fire sign Sagittarius on December 23rd, where it'll stay for the rest of the retrograde. In Sagittarius, we may push too far and run away when we really need to stay and find an unexpected solution. We may be too invested in our positions when we need to open our minds. We may get preachy and loud when we need to shut up. The Sagittarius energy is great for picking back up a course of study, going back to school, or re-learning anything, as well as sharing knowledge with others, teaching, or mentoring. Sagittarius is a writing ruler, so the Mercury retrograde is great for picking back up old writing, or doing editing and revising of current writing. Sagittarius is a travel ruler, as is Mercury, so we do need to be mindful of travel issues with Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius. Of course, this starts 2 days before Christmas, so if you're traveling for the holiday, be ready for delays and cancellations and lost baggage and grumpy passengers, especially on planes (Sagittarius rules flights). The retrograde ends with Mercury widely square (challenging aspect) Neptune in Pisces, and this is the only challenging aspect by this Mercury retrograde (it's exact on December 27th with both at 25 degrees). This can bring the Neptunian fog, and we can struggle to see something clearly. Our view is obscured, and we may think we know, but we don't. Or on the flip side, we may become aware of something that has been hidden to us for some time, and it comes out from the shadows. Lots of hidden energy here, and we need to keep an open mind. With Neptune, it pays to have a good connection to intuition, so work on that to help when logic may be hard to grasp. This can also be great energy for reflecting on the past, spiritual ventures, therapy, and shadow work. I'll also note that Neptune is a water ruler so we may see some water issues while Mercury is retrograde in Sagittarius (maybe that causes the travel problems). Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn & Sagittarius 2023 - 2024 Aspects:
During the retrograde, Mercury will make 5 major aspects to the other transit (moving) planets. I already mentioned two though, the trine to Jupiter on December 18th (at 5 degrees) and the square to Neptune on December 27th (at 25 degrees). The other 3 are:
- Sextile Saturn on December 21st 2023 2023 @ 2 degrees Capricorn/Pisces: This is a pleasant aspect, and helps with discipline and focus thanks to Saturn. We may want to give more attention to our goals, our direction, and we can work to make progress (by doing things a little differently). - Conjunct the Sun on December 22nd 2023 @ 0 degrees Capricorn: This is the Inferior Conjunction, a positive point in the retrograde for starting something that can be a focus for the next 6-8 weeks; find where it falls in your chart, and that may be where you can start something. With this one occurring at the 0 Degrees Aries Point in Capricorn, we can be especially focused on starting something, taking action with a goal, and being disciplined about it. - Conjunct Mars on December 27th 2023 2023 @ 24 degrees Sagittarius: Mars rules energy and drive, so coming together with Mars greatly increases our energy and drive to take the initiative and get things done. But with Mercury also square Neptune at this time, we might have trouble figuring out what exactly to do. Gut instincts can be killer, so we may want to trust our first instinct. But, Mars is also accident energy and violence, so we could see some sort of maybe water accident or some especially cruel act of violence (well that's daily with humans, ain't it?). The Moons of Mercury Retrograde:
The Moon travels through both signs Mercury naturally rules during this retrograde. The Moon is in Gemini (ruled by Mercury) December 24th 2023 (3:15AM ET/12:15AM PT) to 26th (10:16AM ET/7:16AM PT), which can increase scattered, unfocused energy and a need for a mental outlet.
The Moon is in Virgo (ruled by Mercury) right at the end of the retrograde, December 31st 2023 (6:54AM ET/3:54AM PT) to January 2nd 2024 (7:47PM ET/4:47PM PT), and this increases anxiety and stress as we come out of the retrograde. The Moon is in the same sign as the retrograde in Capricorn, just a few hours after the retrograde starts, December 13th (10:31AM ET/7:31AM PT) to 15th (12:55PM ET/9:55AM PT). This greatly increases our focus on the retrograde at the start, and we can feel it much stronger. We likely need to be very patient with ourselves and others as this retrograde starts and ends. Final Notes:
The retrograde starts at 8 degrees Capricorn, so those of you Capricorns born December 27th - January 2nd may feel the start of the retrograde most. The retrograde ends at 22 degrees Sagittarius, so those of you Sagittarians born December 11th - 17th may feel the end of the retrograde most.
For the rest of you, check the house(s) Mercury will be retrograding in your own natal chart, and any aspects Mercury will make during its retrograde to your natal planets, to fully understand how it will impact you personally. If you have Mercury retrograde in your natal or progressed chart, you may not feel the worst of this. Those individuals generally don't experience the difficulties of the retrograde because it feels more natural to them. Of course, chances are everyone else around them doesn't have the same aspect, so they can still experience difficulties brought on by others. Suggested Reading: The Mercury, Venus, & Mars Retrogrades page for interpretations The last month of the year comes with a challenged New Moon in fiery Sagittarius and an emotional Full Moon in Cancer to close the year. Let's cover what these will do for us. What is a New Moon?
A new moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact same position in the Zodiac (called a conjunction). New moons are related to beginnings, have high energy, and are enthusiastic.
What is a Full Moon?
A full moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact opposite positions in the Zodiac (called an opposition). Full moons are related to endings, culminations, and are emotional energy.
New Moon in Sagittarius: December 12th 2023 (6:32PM ET/3:32PM PT)
Sagittarius is the happy sign, the sign of opportunity and expansion, and wants to get out into the world and have new experiences. This means Sagittarius New Moons are excellent for pursuing big new opportunities, getting out there, traveling, learning, teaching, writing, speaking, promoting, marketing, and mentoring.
Sagittarius doesn't want to be serious, and New Moons are enthusiastic and excited, so combined, we tend to look at the bright side and not want to deal with anything heavy. We can work on enjoying ourselves and being open to the new. Sagittarius rules space, so we may push to get more space to do what we want. We can crave more freedom and independence. We can also be invested in our beliefs, passionate about where we stand, and can defend. This can be good for not being a doormat, however we need to be more mindful of listening to others instead of preaching. There is a challenge though: Mercury retrograde begins the day after this New Moon, so we can struggle with communication and clear expression. We might be second-guessing something, rethinking out plans, and unsure of what we should be doing. It can be a good time to pick back up an old idea, an old big plan, or to reconnect with the big picture in ways we have before. This can be a good time to redo and revise. Mercury retrograde starts in Capricorn but moves to Sagittarius on December 23rd. So, try to use the New Moon to set yourself up for Mercury going back to Sagittarius. It's an excellent time for a second chance, but may not be great for anything brand new. There can be issues with travel, learning, or the law around this time. The new moon occurs at 20 degrees 40 minutes Sagittarius. The aspects to the new moon are: Conjunction: 18 degrees 40 minutes - 22 degrees 40 minutes Sagittarius Sextile: 18 degrees 40 minutes - 22 degrees 40 minutes Libra or Aquarius Square: 18 degrees 40 minutes - 22 degrees 40 minutes Virgo or Pisces Trine: 18 degrees 40 minutes - 22 degrees 40 minutes Aries or Leo Opposition: 18 degrees 40 minutes - 22 degrees 40 minutes Gemini Full Moon in Cancer: December 26th 2023 (7:34PM ET/4:34PM PT)
The Cancer Full Moon brings out lots of emotions since Cancer is the sign ruling emotions and Full Moons tend to be quite emotional. With Cancer being ruled by the Moon, we're far more in tune with what we're feeling, the ebb and flow of life, and what we need to feel more secure. This is a good time to work on our emotional needs, and get and give emotional support.
This can be helpful with Mercury retrograde at this time, and we can feel a bit off. Taking care of emotional needs and turning inward can be a good thing and make us feel more in control. We can give more attention to our home lives, our support system, our families, and those we think of as family. We may want to stick to what we know best, and not venture too far into unknown territory. We can be quite subjective, and may need to work on being more open-minded. This Full Moon is sextile, which is a beneficial aspect, transit or moving Jupiter in Taurus, and trine, which is also a beneficial aspect, transit Saturn in Pisces. The sextile to Jupiter can help to make us more optimistic, so hopefully we don't get lost in emotions and instead work on having more hope. The trine to Saturn helps with discipline, so we can work to make good use of our emotions, and can focus on strengthening the foundation of something to be more solid and secure. The full moon occurs at 4 degrees 58 minutes Cancer. Aspects to the full moon are: Conjunction: 2 degrees 58 minutes - 6 degrees 58 minutes Cancer Sextile: 2 degrees 58 minutes - 6 degrees 58 minutes Taurus or Virgo Square: 2 degrees 58 minutes - 6 degrees 58 minutes Aries or Libra Trine: 2 degrees 58 minutes - 6 degrees 58 minutes Scorpio or Pisces Opposition: 2 degrees 58 minutes - 6 degrees 58 minutes Capricorn Suggested Reading: The New & Full Moons page for general interpretations by house and aspect Venus in astrology is one of the personal planets, along with Mercury and Mars.
Venus is the natural ruling planet for two signs, earthy Taurus who is sensual and indulgent, and airy Libra who rules connections and relationships, Venus naturally connects with two houses, the second house of money and seventh house of commitment. At-a-Glance Venus Keywords:
Venus in Astrology: Connections
In your natal chart, your natal Venus rules your relationships, how you are in relationships, who you gravitate toward, and the kind of relationships you're in. This is mostly found via your Venus sign, and the house in your natal chart natal Venus falls in can show areas where you deal with people a lot, need a more pleasant environment, make compromises, and want to keep the peace with others.
Conjunctions (alignments by other planets to your Venus) tend to be strong, and can dominate your natal Venus and your relationships. You can feel surrounded by people and relationships who are ruled by that planet, and that planet can be most important for your connections. When it comes to transits, the transit (moving) planets aspecting your natal Venus can be felt in your dealings with others. They can impact your ability to connect and commit, to get along, and to be invested in others. Venus in Astrology: Attraction
Venus is the planet of attraction, and this means what we attract and how we attract it. How we attract can be found via the sign Venus is in, and where this can occur can be found via the house Venus is in. Venus doesn't necessarily need to go out and take things itself, and rather lets things come to it.
Attraction can also mean the attraction we have with others and with ourselves. What we find attractive in others, and what others find attractive in us, can be seen via Venus. Venus in Astrology: Sensual
Venus is a sensual planet. Venus is ruler of the senses, and is one of the planets that connects to the physical world. Venus wants to experience everything via the senses, and can overindulge. This links to Taurus.
Venus in Astrology: Grounded
Venus in astrology is a grounded planet. Venus doesn't want to rush, and this is part of its attractive energy. Venus doesn't need to rush, and this allows Venus to be grounded and centered. This also helps Venus with maintaining peace, balance, and harmony. It's a blend of Taurus and Libra.
Venus in Astrology: Charming
Venus is a charming planet. This aids its attractive quality, and helps with getting along with others. Venus is pleasant, easy, and can understand how to win people over. It can turn up the charm in just the right way to get others on its side.
Venus in Astrology: Feminine
Venus is one of only two feminine planets in astrology, with the other being the Moon. If you also count Ceres as a main planet, then there are three, but the Moon and Venus are the OG's.
This means the Moon and Venus are feminine energy, and with Venus, this can be an alter ego for women. It can link to the women in your life, and transit Venus can impact issues affecting all women. Venus in Astrology: Values
Venus connects with our values, with what makes us feel secure and confident, and what brings grounding to our lives. Venus can show where our values come from and what we value most.
Where Your Venus Energy is Found
For everyone, look to the Zodiac sign and natal house your Venus falls in. The energy of the Venus sign is how you connect and commit, while the areas of life ruled by the house your Venus falls in are where you need to come together and work with others. Also look to the natural planetary ruler of your Venus sign (the natural planetary ruler of the Zodiac sign your Venus falls in) as this can also connect to the Venus energy.
Planets that are conjunct (aligned with) your natal Venus can be super important and have a direct impact on your relationships. They might be more dominant than the sign Venus is in since Venus is easily overtaken by other bodies. Transit (moving) planets aspecting your natal Venus can bring some temporary energy for Venus matters. This can impact your relationships with Venus, but can also impact the areas of life ruled by the house your Venus falls in, as well as the areas of life ruled by the houses your Venus rules (so the houses that fall in Taurus and Libra). The most challenging aspects to your natal Venus can be hard transit Pluto (since Pluto brings out power struggles, control issues, and old relationship baggage and trauma), hard transit Saturn (since Saturn restricts and can wipe people out of your life), and hard transit Uranus (since Uranus is change and can bring sudden breakups and betrayals). A Strong Natal Venus in Astrology
Some may have a more important natal Venus. This can be the case for you if you have:
- a stellium (3+ planets) including your natal Venus - your natal Venus conjunct an angle - your North or South Node in your Venus sign - your 1st house ruler conjunct the natal Venus - your natal Venus anaretic (at 29 degrees) - natal Venus retrograde - retrograde Mercury or Mars conjunct your natal Venus If your natal Venus is in a stellium, this can make your relationships an important part of that stellium, and your connections with others can be super important for your life happiness but may come with a myriad of challenges to work through. If your natal Venus is conjunct a retrograde Mercury or Mars, or is retrograde itself, you may struggle with connecting with others in what you'd consider a "normal" way. There is likely something different about the way you connect with others, and you have to be accepting of being different with this. If you have Venus retrograde, make sure to check out THIS ARTICLE about it. An anaretic natal Venus can show you either are constantly with others and never alone, or constantly alone and afraid of others. That's the nature of the anaretic degree, and you need to find middle ground. Work on healthy connections with others that benefit your life, and don't be so afraid. Venus conjunct an angle makes your relationships more important for that angle; conjunct your North Node, and healthy connections can be the key to happiness in your life; conjunct the South Node, and you may rely on others too much and need to learn more interdepence; and conjunct the first house ruler, you can be more charming, pleasant, diplomatic, attractive, and able to connect. For now, asteroid Talent is moving to Scorpio, where it'll be for 2 1/2 months before exiting for a stint in Sagittarius and briefly coming back to Scorpio thanks to Talent retrograde.. What does this do for us? Asteroid Talent in Scorpio 2023 - 2024 Dates:
Asteroid Talent in Scorpio 2023 - 2024 General Impact:
Asteroid Talent in Scorpio puts Talent in the sign of passion and intensity. This means we can be much more passionate and intense about our talents and abilities, and take them quite seriously. We can throw ourselves into our abilities, wanting to improve them, make them stronger, deepen them, and get to know everything we can about them. Scorpio is researching and wants to get to the core, and we can do that with our abilities.
We can also be more talented for research and investigation, and those who have this talent may get singled out. We may become aware of some super investigation being done that has been hidden to us before. Scorpio rules the taboo, so more taboo talents and abilities may be appreciated with Talent in Scorpio. We may see their merits, and find new appreciation for them. Scorpio is a science ruler, so scientific talents can also get more attention, and the scientifically-inclined among us can be more passionate about the work. This can lead to discoveries and insights. Scorpio also rules transformations, so we may find that we discover our abilities or hone in our talents after we undergo a major transformation of some sort. Transforming can unlock abilities and let talents shine. We can also be more talented when it comes to transforming itself, and can bring new life to areas that have been stale. When Talent in retrograde in Scorpio, we may struggle with all of this, and get too stuck and obsessed with our talents, and need to pull back. Talent direct is opposite Mars and Uranus in Taurus and trine (beneficial aspect) Neptune in Pisces, so we can be compassionate and creative at the end, but may be impulsive, irrational, and impatient. We need to keep our talents under control, and find new ways to showcase them. We need to avoid giving in to the darker side of Talent in Scorpio as Talent is exiting this sign. Asteroid Talent in Scorpio 2023 - 2024 Conjunctions:
Asteroid Talent only makes one conjunction in Scorpio, and that's to Venus on December 15th 2023 with both at 13 degrees Scorpio. Venus is the planet of love, relationships, and connections, so with Talent conjunct Venus, we can see more talented duos and partnerships in the spotlight, and we may feel we can utilize our talents best when we have a partner. We can also craft impressive compromises, and can be more talented with negotiations and mediation. We can make use of diplomacy that empowers and strengthens.
Outside of that conjunction, asteroid Talent in Scorpio will also oppose Jupiter in Taurus on December 21st 2023 (at 17 degrees) and Uranus in Taurus on December 30th 2023 (at 19 degrees). Oppositions are out of control, and Jupiter expands while Uranus is the unexpected, so combine all of that and we may have some unexpected challenges with our talents and abilities that expand quickly. If we don't jump right to work on it as soon as it becomes a problem, it can grow so fast that we have a hard time putting that genie back in the bottle. We need to be quick on our feet and flexible enough to find a solution on the fly so we don't get stuck. On the upside, these oppositions can show a suddenly rising in the public eye, bursting on the scene, so we may see some people suddenly getting recognition for their abilities. If that ends up being you, congrats, but make sure you can handle it well! Suggested Reading: Transit Abundantia Aspects Ceres is soon on the move, going from passionate, intense Scorpio to fun-loving Sagittarius. How does this transit impact us? What is Ceres in astrology?
Ceres is technically a dwarf planet (like Pluto) but in astrology, we call it an asteroid (as it was before the dwarf planet designation). Ceres is super nurturing, supportive, caring, and there for you. I describe it as a supercharged Moon (maybe mixed with a little Venus).
You can find Ceres in your own chart on astro.com (in Extended Chart Selection, click on Additional Objects, and select Ceres from the menu). Ceres in Sagittarius 2023 - 2024 Dates:
General Impact of Ceres in Sagittarius:
Ceres is exiting Scorpio and moving into Sagittarius in late November, and won't be in this sign for long, only spending about 2 1/2 months in this fire sign. Ceres in Scorpio has been intense and passionate, but Ceres in Sagittarius is light and not serious at all. Sagittarius wants to goof off, be silly, and let loose.
This means we're not so serious when it comes to our resources and finances. Instead, we kind of just let things fall as they will, and have faith that it'll all work out no matter what. We're optimistic about this, and we might even feel lucky. We might ACTUALLY be lucky too, so it can work out. But, we have to make sure we don't push our luck, otherwise we can end up in a bad position fast. It's better if we take the good luck and use it to our advantage, and work on expanding on the resources we have access to, the financial opportunities we can pursue, and the support we have. This can help us bring great abundance, and we can feel better and better about life with everything working out well. Sagittarius rules travel, so we may spend time traveling, especially going anywhere far. We may find that this soothes us, nurtures us, and helps us feel at ease. Hopefully that means it's not too crazy of a holiday travel season, ha. Sagittarius is also ruler of higher learning, so we may spend time expanding our knowledge on something, and this can make us feel nourished. We can get support for expanding our knowledge, and can use our expertise to nurture others. Sagittarius is one of the communication and writing rulers, governing marketing, publishing, and promoting, so this can be a great period for that. Writing pursuits can feel nourishing and we can get support for what we put out there. We do need to be mindful of what we're saying though, and not just throwing out random things without anything factual to back them up. The start of this transit is strong with Mars moving into Sagittarius the day before. Mars is the planet of energy and drive, so we can feel energized and driven with expanding our resources, finances, nourishments, and support. This is very helpful - because Mercury isn't at all. Mercury retrogrades, or appears to move backward, December 23rd to January 1st in Sagittarius, and this might throw us off. Mercury doesn't align with Ceres, but it might still be difficult for us to feel like we're meeting our needs and being supported. We may need to find new, different ways to nurture ourselves and nourish our lives, and be open to expanding in ways we haven't thought of before. We may want to lash out during this time, but that doesn't help. So, we just need to get through this period. Ceres in Sagittarius 2023 - 2024 Aspects:
- Square Saturn in Pisces on November 27th 2023 at 1 degree: This aspect kicks in as soon as Ceres enters Sagittarius, and with Saturn being restrictive, we may not feel the expansive energy of Ceres in Sagittarius right away. Instead, Saturn wants to make sure we're going about things the right way and for the right reasons, and not being impetuous. Any issues around nourishment and support can feel stronger, and some might break under that if we avoid doing something productive about it. Others may simply feel that there aren't as many options as we'd like with our resources or support, but we can manage with what we have until more become available. I also wonder about issues with famine or something disrupting some aspect of the food supply around this aspect since Ceres does rule food and Saturn is lacking.
- Trine Chiron in Aries on December 31st 2023 at 15 degrees: Chiron is the wounded healer in astrology, and links to our emotional and spiritual wounds, our health, and how we can learn and grow. Trines are beneficial aspects, so this is a great aspect to end the year on, and we can focus on how we can best nurture our natural healing abilities. We can reflect on how much we've grown in 2023, and what resources we want to maximize in 2024 that will give us more abundance and nourishment. With Mercury retrograde to end 2023, this would be a great time for routine checkups too. - Conjunct Venus in Sagittarius on January 16th 2024 at 21 degrees: This is the only conjunction Ceres makes in Sagittarius, and with Venus, this is the planet of relationships and connections, so we can focus on nurturing the connections we have and giving support to the people in our lives. We may crave more support in return, so we can work on expanding our support systems. We may be more in tune with the physical world as well, more sensual and indulgent, and want to relax more. - Square Neptune in Pisces on January 26th 2024 at 25 degrees: This square to Neptune can bring out the Neptunian fog with our resources and support, and we may struggle to pinpoint what the problem is thanks to the fog clouding our view. This can leave us vulnerable to deception and manipulation, especially if we don't have clear boundaries and lack a good grip on our resources. Any issues with boundaries can become more obvious, and it's important to address this. At the same time, some may become cruel in response, so we need to make sure we don't lose our compassion in an effort to have boundaries. Healthy boundaries are good for us, but not cruel to others. Final Note:
Good luck with Ceres in Sagittarius! Just gotta push through the start with the square to Saturn and end with the square to Neptune. Don't overdo the discipline with Saturn, and don't let the fog consume you with Neptune.
