You may know about the lunar phases and lunar cycle as most have heard of this even if you don't know any astrology. But how well do you know each lunar phase? There are 4 Quarter Moon Phases in the lunar cycle, and each corresponds to a different type of energy. The 4th Quarter Moon Phase is the time for cleaning things out. The Quarter Moon Phases in Astrology
The New Moon is the 1st Quarter Moon Phase, and is the time when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon align. The phase is a time of beginnings, to start anew, and has higher energy that lasts for a week up to a year.
Coming after the New Moon but before the Full Moon, the 2nd Quarter Moon Phase is when the transit Sun and Moon square (90 degrees or 3 signs apart). As we're going from the New Moon to the Full Moon, this phase is a time to adjust. The Full Moon is the 3rd Quarter Moon Phase, and is when the transit Sun and Moon oppose. This is a time where we reap what we've sown and see results, and comes with emotional energy. Coming after the Full Moon but before the next New Moon, the 4th Quarter Moon Phase is when the transit Sun and Moon square again. As we're leaving the emotional Full Moon and readying for the New Moon, this is a time to clear things out. Each Quarter Moon Phase lasts about 1 week, and occurs in different Zodiac signs. They're usually in sets of signs in the same quality/modality (cardinal, fixed, mutable). The sign the phase is in tells you about the specific energy of that phase. In the case of the 4th Quarter Moon Phase, the sign it's in can tell us how or what we need to let go of, move on from, clean up, or clear out. The 4th Quarter Moon Phase in the Zodiac Signs
In Aries, the 4th Quarter Moon wants us to take action with clearing out, and focus on what we can eliminate that will improve our energy and drive. Take the initiative to do so, and get moving.
In Taurus, the 4th Quarter Moon wants us to clear out what has slowed us down and kept us stuck. We can focus on what we need to eliminate carefully, and make sure we get rid of all of it before moving on In Gemini, the 4th Quarter Moon wants us to clear out any mental sludge. Anything that's been filling your brain and clouding your mind too much, you can work on getting rid of now, and clear your mind so you can focus better going into the New Moon. In Cancer, the 4th Quarter Moon wants us to clear out emotional sludge. Focus on what's been bothering you lately emotionally, what has irked you or made you more sensitive, and work on trying to get to a better place with it. In Leo, the 4th Quarter Moon wants us to let go of blocks that have stifled us creatively, or kept us from enjoying ourselves. It may be a time to take a little break and have some fun. In Virgo, the 4th Quarter Moon wants us to get the little things out of the way. Tackle the little tasks and projects that got pushed aside so you can get them done, and not have to worry as you go into the New Moon. In Libra, the 4th Quarter Moon wants us to let go of some relationship sludge. We can work on eliminating issues in relationships in healthy ways, and work better with others as we go into the New Moon. In Scorpio, the 4th Quarter Moon wants us to dig deeper to get rid of anything that has been festering for a while. We can work on getting to the root source, and find a healthy way of resolving so we don't have to deal with it anymore, and may transform in the process. In Sagittarius, the 4th Quarter Moon wants us to get rid of anything that has been keeping us from going bigger and bolder. We can be a little more courageous about it, and take a lighter approach to moving on. In Capricorn, the 4th Quarter Moon wants us to focus on what we can eliminate that will help us make progress with our goals and keep on the right track. We may also need to assess responsibilities, and make wiser choices. In Aquarius, the 4th Quarter Moon wants us to look at what changes we need to finish, or what endings we need to change. We can be open to doing things in different ways, and may take that approach to what we need to clear out. In Pisces, the 4th Quarter Moon wants us to get rid of spiritual sludge, and we can work on anything that from the past that is making things more difficult now. We can work on letting some of that go, and free ourselves up spiritually. Find them in your natal chart and see what they're doing for you! Astrology's Witches: Black Moon Lilith
Black Moon Lilith is the apogee of the Moon, and connects to a hidden inner power we all have. In the mythology of Lilith, she was Adam's first wife in the Garden of Eden, and was made from the Earth, same as Adam. This gives Lilith an earthy quality, and combined with her power, aids in magical abilities.
Those with a prominent natal Black Moon Lilith tend to have powerful witchy abilities, whether they're consciously aware of this or not. The sign and house location of your natal Lilith can show where you may have some of this mystical grounded ability. You can use astro.com to find your natal Black Moon Lilith (in Extended Chart Selection, select Lilith in the menu for the Mean, or averaged out, position, and type in h13 in the Manual entry box for the True/Oscillating, or exact position). Astrology's Witches: Circe
Circe is the goddess of sorcery, and has great magical abilities, so of course Circe in astrology can show where you may find magical abilities of your own.
Circe's mythology is quite tragic, like Lilith's, and they've both often been described in horrible ways over the many years. But, the patriarchy does have a way of demonizing powerful women, so we're going to ignore that part of their mythology ;) Those with a prominent natal Circe can tap into sorcery more easily than others, and may especially have a gift with herbs and potions. Circe is asteroid number 34 (type 34 into the Manual entry box in Extended Chart Selection to find your natal asteroid Circe). Astrology's Witches: Hekate
Hekate is the goddess of witchcraft and ghosts. Hekate is seen as the Triple Moon Goddess. Hekate is talked about a tiny bit better than Lilith and Circe.
Those with a prominent natal Hekate can have strong intuitive and psychic abilities. They just seem to *know*, whether they're aware of this consciously or not. The sign and house location of your natal asteroid Hekate can show areas where you have that ability (type 100 into the Manual entra box in Extended Chart Selection to find your natal asteroid Hekate). And what would make them prominent in your natal chart? Any of this trio may be prominent for you if they are: - conjunct (aligned with) your natal Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Ascendant, or 1st house ruler - anaretic (at 29 degrees) - part of a stellium (3+ more planets conjunct in 1 sign) - in the 1st house - is conjunct a singleton planet (the only planet in an element, quality or house type) - is in your North or South Node sign (the Lunar Nodes, which are the points in the Moon's orbit where the Moon crosses the ecliptic; if with the North Node, you may shy away from the energy but have great potential with it; if with the South Node, you may be very comfortable with it, but need to be careful it doesn't become a crutch) Suggested Reading: Lilith the Witch Black Moon Lilith is a fun part of astrology to focus on, and governs our inner power, among other things. Black Moon Lilith is believed to connect with the sign of Gemini, so you may feel that your natal Gemini house connects with your Black Moon Lilith. What is Black Moon Lilith?
Black Moon Lilith is the apogee of the Moon, and rules a few things in your natal chart. It shows a hidden inner power you have to stand up and speak out, to defend yourself and/or others, to fight for what you believe is right, and to believe in your worth. Lilith also connects with sexual desires, complicated mothers, and magical abilities.
About Lilith and Gemini
Gemini is an air sign and it's planetary ruler is Mercury, so Gemini is the sign of the mind. This sign loves to talk, loves to think, and loves to connect intellectually.
It makes sense for Lilith to connect to Gemini when you consider Lilith wants you to stand up and speak out, to grab hold of your inner power and take a stand. Gemini is all for speaking up. With Black Moon Lilith connecting to Gemini, your Lilith house can be the one that falls in Gemini. If you have no house cusps in Gemini, then Gemini is intercepted, which means its energy is contained in the house that falls in Taurus. There may be a subconscious connection between that house and your natal Black Moon Lilith. If you have two house cusps that fall in Gemini, then both of those houses may connect to your natal Black Moon Lilith, and this could elevate your natal Lilith energy in your life. Black Moon Lilith Ruled Houses
The natal house in Gemini may show areas where you need to speak out and take a stand more than others. This would also go with the house your natal Black Moon Lilith resides, and the sign it's located. That means you can pay attention to both houses with Lilith, and they may connect in how and what you take a stand with/for.
When it's your 1st, 3rd, 5th, 9th, 10th, or 11th houses, you may find you need to take a stand more often and more outwardly (unless your natal Lilith is in the 12th house). When it's your 2nd, 4th, 6th, or 8th houses, you may find you need to be more cautious and deliberate. When it's your 7th or 12th houses, you may find you need to take a stand more for others than for yourself. Extra note: You may also find that any transit aspects to your natal Black Moon Lilith activate or impact in some way the natal Gemini house. Transits to the house rulers impact the house it rules, and that can happen with aspects to your natal Black Moon Lilith and your natal Gemini house. When transit planets aspect your natal Black Moon Lilith, this can bring energy to your natal Gemini house, and you can see more energy for taking a stand related to that house. Some of you may feel cut off from your inner Black Moon Lilith. What astrology can show this? What is Black Moon Lilith in astrology?
Black Moon Lilith is the apogee of the Moon, so the furthest point in the Moon's orbit. There are two positions for Black Moon Lilith, Mean and True/Oscillating. Lilith's movement is super wonky, so the Mean position is the averaged out position while the True/Oscillating position is the exact position.
Black Moon Lilith ties to inner personal power, your ability to stand up and speak out, to fight back for what you know is right, to stick to what you believe, and to hold true to your self-respect. It also connects to sexual desires, complicated mothers, and witchiness. How can you be cut off from Black Moon Lilith?
Some ways you may feel cut off from your natal Black Moon Lilith are if it's:
- intercepted - anaretic - in the 12th house - conjunct Saturn - in your North Node sign When Black Moon Lilith is intercepted, this means the Zodiac sign your natal Lilith is located isn't on any of your house cusps, so the sign is contained within the house that falls in the previous sign. Interceptions are cut off energy, so this is probably the most obvious way Lilith is cut off to you. Interceptions manifest subconsciously, so you may not realize when you're using Lilith's energy consciously, and may find it comes out when you're being guided by instinct instead of logic. There's almost always a subconscious blocks when it comes to interceptions, and removing that block and getting more in tune with your subconscious helps you access the energy, so that's what you need to do to access your Lilith. When Black Moon Lilith is anaretic, this means it's at 29 degrees of any Zodiac sign. The anaretic degree is super high energy, but in the natal chart, it tends to either be a position that is overplayed or underplayed (and I find it's usually underplayed). When underplayed, that energy is largely ignored, and you may even be afraid of it. Anaretic natal positions tend to tie to traumatic experiences or baggage, so that's what you need to work on to access your Black Moon Lilith. As you heal or let go, you can grow into your Lilith energy. When Black Moon Lilith is located in your natal 12th house, this is the house of the hidden and the subconscious mind, so Lilith energy can play out subconsciously, or when you're alone or with those you know really well. On the outside, you may not seem like Lilith whatsoever, but behind the scenes or on your own, you can feel comfortable with it. Like with interceptions, there may be a subconscious issue that needs to be worked on to access your Lilith more outwardly. But, you may actually feel that you don't really need to be more outward with it, and using Lilith quietly, on your own, or in the background can work for you. When Black Moon Lilith is conjunct your natal Saturn, this means Lilith is aligned with your Saturn. Saturn is restrictive energy, and tends to limit whatever it's conjunct. When it's Lilith, that Lilith energy gets restricted, and you don't show it much at all. In this case, you likely were prevented from using it growing up, and held back in many ways from taking your personal power. You may have had really strict parents, overbearing mentors, or had to stick to such rigid routines that it stifled this energy for you. Or, you may have had an experience where you stood up and spoke out, but were silenced, ignored, or blamed. Saturn is the planet of lessons, so there's probably a lesson you have to learn regarding Lilith. The specific lesson may be more obvious to you (if you're not aware of it) during your first and second Saturn Returns (when Saturn returns to the exact same position it was at when you were born). You may also find you become more comfortable with your Lilith energy as you get older. When Black Moon Lilith is in your North Node sign, this means Lilith is paired up with your North Node. The North Node is part of the Lunar Nodes (the points in the Moon's orbit where the Moon crosses the ecliptic), and the North Node shows your potential and purpose in this life. But, it's new, unfamiliar energy, so we tend to shy away from it, especially when young, and have to work on developing it over time. Because of this, if you have Black Moon Lilith in your North Node sign, you may shy away from it, especially when young. It may feel too uncomfortable for you when you try to, but you have to push through the discomfort and allow yourself to use your Lilith energy. Eventually, when you do develop your Lilith energy, it's actually a great thing that helps you find your purpose and use your potential. Let's get ready now. What is a New Moon?
A new moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact same position in the Zodiac (called a conjunction). New moons are related to beginnings, have high energy, and are enthusiastic.
What is a Full Moon?
A full moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact opposite positions in the Zodiac (called an opposition). Full moons are related to endings, culminations, and are emotional energy.
New Moon in Scorpio: November 4th 2021 (4:15PM ET/1:15PM PT)
The Scorpio new moon brings energy for transforming, and these transformations can be easier to work on with a new moon. We can get them started, and feel like we're breathing fresh new life into our lives, projects, or opportunities.
Scorpio rules research and investigation, so we may dig deeper into subjects we need to know more about, and can become aware of something we hadn't known. This new information can help us find solutions we've been needing, and work on plans that have been stalled. Scorpio likes to share, so we may focus on projects where we're working with a partner, or do more things that benefit others along with ourselves. This can be a good time to tackle and manage anything financial involving others (business finances, joint finances, and things like inheritances, loans, debts, taxes, etc.). Scorpio also rules the dark side, so we can be more comfortable focusing on more serious issues, and things deemed taboo. This new moon is opposite transit (moving) Uranus in Taurus, so we may feel a little more restless and impatient with this new moon. This energy does make it great for breaking out though, and we can finally break through in some way that has been stuck for a while. The new moon occurs at 12 degrees 40 minutes Scorpio. The aspects to this new moon are: Conjunction: 10 degrees 40 minutes - 14 degrees 40 minutes Scorpio Sextile: 10 degrees 40 minutes - 14 degrees 40 minutes Virgo or Capricorn Square: 10 degrees 40 minutes - 14 degrees 40 minutes Leo or Aquarius Trine: 10 degrees 40 minutes - 14 degrees 40 minutes Cancer or Pisces Opposition: 10 degrees 40 minutes - 14 degrees 40 minutes Taurus Lunar Eclipse in Taurus: November 19th 2021 (3:58AM ET/12:58AM PT
Eclipse time! We enter eclipse season again in November, and have our last lunar eclipse for 2021, now in Taurus. This starts a new eclipse cycle as it's the first eclipse in Taurus or Scorpio. The last in Gemini or Sagittarius comes in December (in Sagittarius), closing the books on that eclipse set, and we're starting to look at the Taurus-Scorpio energy come mid-November with this lunar eclipse.
In Taurus, we can give lots of attention to what we value and find worth in, what we invest in, and what we hold in high regard. Are we living to our values? Are our values in tune with who we are now and who we want to become? Are our values a positive impact on our lives and the lives of others? We may give them questions and more a lot of thought. Taurus governs stability and security, so we can assess existing blocks to stability and security, how we can lift them in a positive way, and what led to them in the first place. We have to work on building greater stability and security in a healthy way. Lack of confidence and self-worth can come under the microscope, and if you suffer from low self-esteem, that can feel exposed with this lunar eclipse. You may be extra insecure about something in your life, but the eclipse isn't trying to punish you. It's showing you what needs to be changed for the better so you don't have to feel that way ever again. Taurus is a money ruler, so there could also be some financial developments with this eclipse. Financial agreements may be finalized or come to an end, financial rewards may come to those who have done things right, and financial setbacks may come to those who haven't. This eclipse is square (hard aspect, 3 signs away) transit Jupiter in Aquarius and trine (positive aspect, 4 signs away) transit Pluto in Capricorn. The square to Jupiter might bring some issues with moderation, letting things go to excess, or laziness at times that has to be addressed, and we also need to watch for being preachy or falling for someone who is. The trine to Pluto can help with any changes we're dealing with, and we can take more control or find more personal power. The eclipse occurs at 27 degrees 14 minutes Taurus. The aspects to this eclipse are: Conjunction: 22 degrees 14 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Taurus Semisextile: 25 degrees 14 minutes - 29 degrees 14 minutes Aries or Gemini Sextile: 22 degrees 14 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Cancer or Pisces Square: 22 degrees 14 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Leo or Aquarius Trine: 22 degrees 14 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Virgo or Capricorn Quincunx: 25 degrees 14 minutes - 29 degrees 14 minutes Libra or Sagittarius Opposition: 22 degrees 14 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Scorpio Since this eclipse is late in sign, there may also be out-of-sign aspects made (but only for the major aspects). Out-of-sign aspects may have fainter energy. They are: Conjunction: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 14 minutes Gemini Sextile: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 14 minutes Aries or Leo Square: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 14 minutes Virgo or Pisces Trine: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 14 minutes Libra or Aquarius Opposition: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 14 minutes Sagittarius Suggested Reading: The New & Full Moons page for general interpretations We have a few planets stationing at the moment, and this is something that happens throughout the year, every year. This is because planets station when they're turning retrograde or direct. What is a retrograde and direct?
A planet or astrological body is called retrograde when it appears to be moving backward from our view here on Earth through the Zodiac. It's not *actually* moving backward, and just appears that way. Normal motion is forward motion, so the planets and bodies operate a little differently when retrograde, sometimes in the opposite way they usually do.
A planet or astrological body is called direct when it appears to no longer be moving backward, and it is now moving forward again. Again, this is just in appearance, but it means the planet or body is back to moving its normal way. What is stationing?
A planet or astrological body is called stationing when it's hovering in about the same location in the Zodiac. This happens whenever a planet or body turns retrograde or direct. Why? Since the planet of body is changing its motion, it slows way down in order to do so, thus is hovering in about the same spot.
For faster planets like Mercury, Venus, and Mars, it's usually considered stationing when it's at the same degree it'll turn retrograde or direct at. Since Mercury retrogrades 3-4x's each year, it stations 6-8x's yearly, and this usually lasts for a few days to a week. Venus retrogrades every 1 1/2 years or so, and stations twice, once at the start and once at the end, and this can last for a week or two. Mars retrogrades every 2 years or so, and also stations twice, once at the start and once at the end, and this can last for a couple of weeks. The slower planets may be stationing when they're at the exact degree and minute they'll turn retrograde or direct at, especially Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and Chiron. This station may be short sometimes, just a few days, or sometimes really long, like a month. Jupiter and Saturn can focus more on the degree than the exact position, unless they stay at that position for a longer period. The energy of stationing:
Since the planet or astrological body is hovering in the same spot, the energy of stationing is stagnant. We can feel like things are on hold, we're holding our breath, we're waiting to see what happens. Everything tends to slow down, and picks back up again when the planet or body is moving forward or backward at a greater speed.
Periods where a planet is stationing tend to be more impactful if the planet or body is stationing in aspect to another transit planet. This aspect can be felt for a much longer period than usual, and it's getting steady energy. Whether good or bad and what exactly it can lead to depends on the aspect being made and the planet or body involved. Stationing planets or bodies tend to be most important for you personally when they are aspecting your natal chart. This is when you get a direct hit, and it's an indicator of a strong period for you. Whatever is being aspected gets a steady flow of continuous energy, and you can give it a lot of extra attention. It can often be a time when developments occur or events are triggered in your life related to whatever is being aspected, so it's important to pay attention to it.
