Jupiter is the planet of expansion, opportunity, and fun. Jupiter doesn't want to take too much too seriously, and wants to get out and explore, experience life, and open up to the world. Jupiter wants to goof off and be playful. In love, this means Jupiter is the planet that helps us be romantic, find new people to date, and have fun flings. With Jupiter, love is fun and light and not too scary or serious. That's the job of other planets. Jupiter's job is to help us enjoy each other. Jupiter Transits & Love
Meeting someone and dating someone new and exciting can come with Jupiter aspects (conjunctions, sextiles, and trines) to the natal or progressed 5th house cusp or ruler (house of love), 7th house cusp or ruler (house of relationships and commitment), or natal Venus (planet of love and relationships).
When transit Jupiter is touring the natal 5th house of love, this is often a period where you can meet lots of potential love interests and be more open to love; when transit Jupiter is touring the 7th house of relationships, this is often a period where you can be lighter about commitment, more open to it, but desire some space within it; and when transit Jupiter is touring the 8th house of intimacy, this is often a period where you're more open to intimacy (and sex!). But note that Jupiter is the planet of expansion, so if you're having problems in love (5th house), relationships (7th house), or intimacy (8th house), Jupiter touring these houses can make them worse! Hard Jupiter transits (squares and oppositions) can make it so you don't really want any strings attached since Jupiter loves freedom, or can make it so you're lazy about any new connections and don't pursue them, or lazy about issues in existing relationships and don't work on them. Jupiter needs a push under the hard transits, otherwise things can get stale and nothing moves. Jupiter & Synastry
When you have a Jupiter connection with someone in synastry, this is one of the best indicators of compatibility. We often get along very well with the people who are of the same sign as our natal Jupiter, and it can generate a genuine like between you. It's not usually unrealistic, rose-colored glasses kind of like (like Neptune); we usually see the flaws in one another, but don't mind them so much. We still like ya anyway!
Jupiter isn't really terrible in love astrology at all, BUT without other planets to ground the energy, it can cause new relationships to be fleeting flings. Saturn is usually needed to counter Jupiter since Saturn is super committed and grounding. Pluto can also be of help since Pluto is also a serious planet, and wants strong connections. Having positive Jupiter transits combined with Saturn and/or Pluto can be one of the best indicators of a new relationship that will last or of advancing an existing relationship. But without Saturn or Pluto? Enjoy the ride - it probably won't last! Saturn is not fun and play, romance and romps in the hay. Saturn takes everything seriously, especially commitment. Saturn is the late bloomer, so it may not commit early in life. But once Saturn commits, Saturn is in it for life, and does not take that responsibility lightly. In love, this means Saturn is one of the planets that can show taking the next step and committing to someone. Saturn Transits & Love
Deciding to commit to someone often comes under a positive Saturn transit (sextiles and trines) to the natal or progressed 5th or 7th house cusps or rulers or natal Venus. The 5th house rules love, the 7th house ruler relationships and commitment, and Venus is the planet of love and relationships.
When transit Saturn is touring the natal 5th house of love, 7th house of relationships, or 8th house of intimacy, this is often a period when people decide to get really serious about their relationships. No more just goofing off and no strings attached. It's time to settle down and bring some stability to your love life. Hard Saturn transits (squares and oppositions) can actually show periods that are really hard on your relationships, and you may question your loyalty (or theirs), and feel restricted, stifled, suffocating in relationships that aren't really good for you. When that's the case, you have to either work on the problems to make it better, or walk away. Saturn conjunctions can make it imperative for you to abide by Saturn and act completely responsibly in relationships, fully committed, and with healthy connections. Lacking that, your relationships can act to hold you back, and make you feel overwhelmed. Saturn & Synastry
When you have a Saturn connection with someone in synastry, this can be tricky. On the one hand, this can show that you take the relationship seriously and can commit more easily to one another. On the other hand, it can show that this connection has a tendency to make you feel overwhelmed, insecure, or limited.
The latter tends to be less of an issue if you're both in a good place in your lives, know who you are, and come together as complete individuals. Without that, this connection can be extremely difficult. To counter Saturn, you usually need to focus on a little bit of Jupiter. Saturn restricts while Jupiter expands, and Jupiter helps bring some lightness, some brevity, some air that's often needed with Saturn. Having strong Jupiter in your natal chart can help you to avoid being overcome by the weight of Saturn; having positive Jupiter transits while undergoing hard Saturn transits can help as well (but hard Jupiter transits or conjunctions can make it worse!); and having a strong Jupiter (or Venus) in the composite chart can help you both to focus on more of the positives. If there’s no Jupiter energy? This might be a relationship that crushes you! We'll have a full moon on August 15th in air sign Aquarius, and this full moon may have us focused on the future and what we hope for. We may think more about ways we can do things differently, or see the results of changes we've already made. We may be more concerned with how what we do impacts the world at large, and can feel more charitable.
We may want to come together with those who share our views, but also to focus on a cause. We can work to look at emotional situations more objectively, without being taken in by the emotions of it, though we may need to make sure we're not being too clinical or cold. Some emotion is good. The full moon is opposite transit (moving) Venus in Leo, so when we are upset, we may get extra indulgent, extra stubborn, and extra stuck. We need to make sure we don't dig in our heels and end up putting ourselves in a bad position. And exercise a little moderation! The full moon occurs at 22 degrees 24 minutes Aquarius. The major aspects made to this full moon are: Conjunction: 20 degrees 24 minutes - 26 degrees 24 minutes Aquarius Sextile: 20 degrees 24 minutes - 26 degrees 24 minutes Aries or Sagittarius Square: 20 degrees 24 minutes - 26 degrees 24 minutes Taurus or Scorpio Trine: 20 degrees 24 minutes - 26 degrees 24 minutes Gemini or Libra Opposition: 20 degrees 24 minutes - 26 degrees 24 minutes Leo New Moon in Virgo: August 30th at 6:37AM ET
August's new moon comes on the 30th in earthy Virgo. Virgo likes to get things done, get organized, and get practical, and that's energy we'll likely need desperately after this midyear wonkiness! So we can focus on trying to make lists, bring in some structure and order, and tend to the little tasks and chores that have piled up. We can be more hard-working, focused, and detailed.
It's likely that a lot has piled up over the last few months (thanks Mercury retrograde!), and we've got a lot to do. We can tend to daily life, to our schedules and routines, and try to get things moving forward st a steady pace. Onward! This new moon is conjunct (aligned with) Mars in Virgo, and trine (positive aspect, 4 signs away) Uranus in Taurus. This brings great energy and drive to get things done and start new projects and plans, and we can work on doing things in new ways and feel independent. This new moon wants things to happen! This new moon occurs at 6 degrees 46 minutes Virgo. The major aspects to this new moon are: Conjunction: 4 degrees 46 minutes - 8 degrees 46 minutes Virgo Sextile: 4 degrees 46 minutes - 8 degrees 46 minutes Cancer or Scorpio Square: 4 degrees 46 minutes - 8 degrees 46 minutes Gemini or Sagittarius Trine: 4 degrees 46 minutes - 8 degrees 46 minutes Taurus or Capricorn Opposition: 4 degrees 46 minutes - 8 degrees 46 minutes Pisces Suggested Reading: New & Full Moons page for interpretations With all of the wonky energy swirling, I wanted to focus on a positive position in this article, so here we are: Progressed Jupiter. Jupiter doesn't get a lot of attention in the progressed chart because Jupiter doesn't move very fast. Jupiter spends about one year in a sign or house, so progressed Jupiter doesn't move too much from the natal position. For most of us, Jupiter will remain in the same sign and house; but for some people, progressed Jupiter will change If you were born with Jupiter at the end of a sign (say 20-something degrees), and Jupiter moves forward, it may move into a new sign in your life. If you were born with Jupiter early in a sign (say under 10 degrees), and it turns retrograde early, it may move back to the previous sign in your life. If you were born with Jupiter under 10 degrees from a house cusp, Jupiter may move forward into a new house (if Jupiter is in the previous house); if Jupiter is in a house and under 10 degrees from the cusp, it may move backward into the previous house (if turning retrograde). What do progressed charts mean?
A progressed chart is created by adding one day to your date of birth for every year you've been alive to create a new chart that reflects your maturation and growth into adulthood. We all change with age, and the progressed chart reflects that. It's used in predictive astrology, and tracking the movement of the progressed chart can indicate events in your life and shifting focuses over time.
So wait, can your natal chart change?
Not to fear, your natal chart is still your natal chart. The progressed chart is a brand new chart used in conjunction with your natal chart and transits for predictive analysis.
What the planet Jupiter represents in astrology
Jupiter is the planet of expansion, at its core. Jupiter wants to expand whatever it touches. Jupiter is the happy planet, and wants everything that's expanding to be positive, but that largely depends on other aspects and what you choose to do with the energy. In your natal chart, the sign and house position of your natal Jupiter can show where you expand, have opportunities, and generally want to see the positives.
When your progressed Jupiter moves into a new sign or house, this can show a shifting in expansive energy, and you may start unraveling more opportunities for new experiences and growth in your life. If Jupiter is moving forward into a new sign, when at the very end of the sign it's leaving, it'll be at 29 degrees. This is the anaretic degree, a point of extreme energy in the progressed chart, and for that period when progressed Jupiter is at 29 degrees, you may feel super motivated to take action and pursue opportunities right away before you feel you lose the chance (meaning before Jupiter changes signs). If Jupiter is moving backward (retrograde) into a new sign, when it very first enters that new sign, it'll be at 29 degrees. This can bring that intense energy to pursue opportunities right off of the bat, but it'll be focused on the new sign instead of the old one (likely the original natal sign). When your progressed Jupiter moves into a new house, this can put Jupiter conjunct (aligned with) the house cusp for some time (years). When progressed Jupiter is within 1-2 degrees of the house cusp, you'll start to feel it more, and want to expand in those areas of life the house rules, and can be presented with more opportunities. Suggested Reading: Progressed Saturn in Astrology Marketing and advertising are governed by Jupiter and the 9th house. This doesn't only apply to you if you work in marketing or advertising - we all have to promote ourselves in some way, shape, or form at various parts of our lives, whether you're trying to get a promotion, get into college, or get followers on social media. How to find your marketing style
How comfortable you are with it and how your style is can be found with the sign and house location of your Jupiter, and the sign on the 9th house cusps and any planets in the house. Jupiter or the 9th house in earth and water signs tends to be more traditional and not loud or flashy, and may not be super comfortable promoting yourself, preferring to deflect attention and promote others (especially water signs). Earth signs can be more comfortable for promoting for business purposes, but not too keen for personal reasons.
Fire and air signs can have an easier time with promoting. Fire signs can take action and expose their personality; air signs can make good use of social media. Fire and air signs tend to be more social anyway, and they can find it easier to connect with others. (Note: Fire signs are Aries, Leo, Sagittarius; earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn; air signs are Gemini, Libra, Aquarius; and water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) Planets in the 9th house of marketing
Those with Jupiter in the 1st house (self) and 9th house (the house Jupiter naturally rules) can be naturals with promoting and feel it comes more easily;
in the 2nd, 6th, and 10th houses, these are the professional houses, and it can come out through work (and these positions can show actually working in marketing/advertising); in the 3rd or 5th houses, it may be done with humor, and marketing can take a lighter approach for you; if the 4th or 8th houses, it may be infused with emotion, and you can use emotion to connect with others through promoting; in the 7th or 11th houses, it may be done with or for others, and you may find you do best promoting others instead of yourself or doing promotions with partners or groups; and in the 12th house, this is the house of the hidden, so you may shy away from it completely, or only want to do it for others and not yourself. The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars in the 9th house can make you much more comfortable with promoting and a natural marketer. These are the personal planets, so it can feel like a natural extension of yourself. Saturn in the 9th house can make you super uncomfortable with it and struggle with it until later in life since Saturn is restrictive energy. Uranus in the 9th house can show you need to do it in a different, unusual, unconventional way, and may be good at online marketing since Uranus rules the internet. Neptune in the 9th house can show a strong intuitive marketer, but struggling with it on a conscious level and needing to trust your instincts on what will work and how to connect. Pluto in the 9th house can show being a powerful promoter, strong and intense, but sometimes encountering opposition from those who feel threatened by you, and needing to feel comfortable with the power you can have promoting without being dominant or dark.
