When you first start learning to read your natal chart, one thing you quickly discover is that not every natal house has a planet in it, which means that is an empty house. Houses can be grouped together based on what they rule, and the 5th, 7th, and 11th houses can come together to form the social or relationship houses. But what does it mean when all 3 of these houses are empty? What is an empty house?
There are 12 houses in an astrology chart, and each house rules a different part of your life. There are 10 planets (including the Sun and Moon, excluding the Earth), and each of them has their own rulers and energy as well. But you see, there are only 10 planets but 12 houses - which means every person has at least 2 houses without a planet (usually more than that).
The 5th, 7th, and 11th Houses - Your Relationships
The 5th house is the house of love. It rules the love relationships you have, romance and dating, as well as your children. This is the house of creation, so it's the start of a love relationship.
The 7th house is the house of committed relationships. You move on from the start with the 5th house and come to the 7th house, which rules partnerships and marriage (but do know that "commitment" doesn't necessarily mean marriage, it's whatever that means to you). The 11th house is the house of friends and acquaintances. This house is a little more casual than the 5th and 7th, and governs your entire social circle. The groups you interact with and belong to also fall under the 11th house. Empty 5th, 7th, and 11th Houses
So what if all 3 of these houses for you are empty houses? First, you need to know what an empty house means - in astrology, it actually represents a part of our life that doesn't have a load of lessons for you to learn and drama! It's actually kind of a good thing.
When a planet is in a house, it gets extra attention from us because it's something we have to work on consciously, whereas an empty house doesn't have that worry. Many worry that an empty house means you won't have that in your life, but that's not true at all. If your 5th, 7th, and 11th houses are all empty houses, this means that connecting with others for you doesn't have the same kind of baggage as it does for everyone else. This may mean subconscious, early life baggage, or baggage from past lives/karmic. You're free to enter into love relationships, commitment, and friendships without the subconscious/spiritual blocks. The way your empty house operates is focused on the sign on the cusp (the very beginning of that house), and what's going on with the ruler of that house. The house ruler becomes elevated when there aren't any planets in the house to have a say. Exceptions:
Of course, there are exceptions to this easy energy. If you have the Lunar Nodes (spiritual/karmic in nature) or Chiron (wounds and healing) in the 5th, 7th, or 11th houses, this can show you do have some baggage to deal with after all.
There may also be challenges if the 5th, 7th, or 11th house ruler is in a difficult position in your natal chart, like conjunct Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto; anaretic (at 29 degrees), intercepted (contained within another house), a singleton (only planet in an element, quality, or house type), or part of a challenging aspect configuration (like the apex planet of a t-square). So, having an empty house by itself doesn't automatically mean it's easy energy all the way if these are present. Honorable Mention: The 3rd House
The 7th and 11th houses are air houses, connected to air signs Libra (7th) and Aquarius (11th). The other air sign, Gemini, connects to the 3rd house. The air signs are the social signs.
The 3rd house rules communication, which is a mode for connecting with others. An empty 3rd house can help with forging that connection, while a challenged 3rd house/cusp/ruler can create some difficulties with connecting mentally. So, you may want to check out this house too! The March new moon comes to us in Pisces, and this is sweet, gentle energy. We can be more understanding, compassionate, and want to be of help in any way we can. It's a good time to help out and be a little sweeter with others.
Intuition can be strong, and we can trust our instincts to guide us in the right direction. We may want to pursue spiritual ventures and explore the metaphysical. Imagination can roam free, and we can be more creative and artistic. Pisces is a quiet sign, and one that prefers to work in the background, so we may want to deal with things in a quiet way, without much attention, and work on our own. March's full moon comes to us in Libra, and this is the sign of relationships and other people, so we can be extra focused on that. We may work on being more emotionally connected with the people we care about, and we can express more of what we feel with others. Others may be more expressive with us as well, and this can help open up emotional pathways, but we also need to make sure we're not creating drama.
Libra full moons are times when we need to surround ourselves with peace and harmony. When we're not dealing with chaos, we can be much more decisive and emotionally secure. If we have chaos to deal with, it can throw us off in a big way, and we can struggle with seeing things clearly or making a sound judgment. Libra is the sign of balance, so Libra full moons are great times to work on eliminating blocks to achieve balance in your life. The more balanced you feel, the easier it can be to deal with everything. What haven't you been able to focus on as of late? Yesterday moved us from eccentric Aquarius Season into sweet, sensitive Pisces Season. Aquarius Season is a time when we're doing things differently, pushing outside of our comfort zones, and making changes, and this has especially been the case this time with Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius too. With Pisces Season, we can pull back a little from this and quiet everything down. If you're a Pisces (Sun, Moon, or Rising), or you have a strong natal Neptune (the natural ruler of Pisces), you know that this sign tends to prefer things to be quieter, softer, gentler, and sweeter. Fellow water signs Cancer and Scorpio can do well during Pisces Season, along with earth signs Taurus and Capricorn. Fellow mutable signs Gemini, Virgo, and Sagittarius may have to do more work. This Pisces Season actually gives a little preview of what we can expect with Jupiter moving into Pisces in May, and comes with some sweet energy paired with pleasant Venus in Pisces starting February 25th. In astrology, Chiron is ruler of your wounds and how to heal from them. Chiron is technically a comet (now anyways, it's been called a dwarf planet and asteroid; in astrology, we just call it an asteroid as they used to). How does Chiron influence relationships in astrology? The composite chart in astrology combines the natal charts of two or more people to create a new chart for the relationship itself. Astrology views the relationship itself as a separate entity, and composites can help explain why people who would seem to get along great don't and why opposites sometimes attract. So what is the influence of Chiron in the composite chart? Let's explore! What does Chiron show in a composite chart?
Chiron is a body that focuses on wounds. This means in relationship astrology, Chiron connections can expose wounds, or even cause new wounds. In the composite chart, the placement of the composite Chiron can show what areas of the relationship this is focused on.
The sign may not matter as much since Chiron spends a long time in one sign, so you'll likely have the same Chiron sign unless you have a big age difference. The house placement can matter more, as well as major aspects. What makes for a strong Chiron in the composite chart?
Composite Chiron can be strongest when in the composite 1st house or conjunct (aligned with) a composite planet (especially a personal planet - Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) or composite angle (1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th house cusps).
These placements can make Chiron more important for your relationship, and it has the potential to be one that helps you do a lot of healing, or to do a lot of harm. Which exactly often depends on how the rest of the composite chart is (and how each of your natal charts connect with one another and play out individually). Strong Chiron in the Composite Chart
When Chiron is operating positively in the composite chart, the relationship may be one that helps you move on from past hurts, understand yourself better, and open up more emotionally. You can feel supported in the relationship, and protective of one another. In the composite chart, Chiron can be supported by beneficial aspects (sextiles and trines).
When Chiron is operating negatively in the composite chart, the relationship may be one that causes you more pain, more hurt, and more suffering. Existing wounds may worsen and deepen, and new wounds can pile on top of it. It can be extremely emotional and difficult to manage in a healthy way. In the composite chart, Chiron can be challenged by hard aspects (squares and oppositions), especially by Saturn, Uranus, or Pluto. Composite Chiron can also be difficult conjunct either or square both of the composite Lunar Nodes since they are spiritual/karmic in nature. No matter which are present, there can be a degree of discomfort with a strong composite Chiron. It's exposing some things that we might feel more comfortable not dealing with, and that can always be a challenge if we don't think we're ready for it. In general, a lot is going to depend on whether or not each of you has worked on your own wounds and done your own healing on your own. If you haven't at least started that process individually, then the relationship with a strong composite Chiron is more likely to be negative and wounding. If you can come into the relationship in a place of healing, the relationship can help further that, and you can feel more comfortable with whatever the relationship brings out for you to process.
