Change is the only constant, right? No matter how much we may want things to stay the same, that’s just not possible. It’s better not to fight it, and to instead, embrace the change. When you take control of it, it doesn’t control you, and you can create the changes that will make you happen. You can use the 11th house to help you with that. The 11th House of Change
The 11th house is naturally ruled by the planet of change, Uranus, and so this is the house of change (it's a wild house!). When you have transit or progressed aspects occurring to the 11th house ruler or 11th house cusp, this is a time for change.
The best way to create positive change is to take a beat to think about what you want first, and then take action. This is easiest to do when you have an easy aspect occurring (a sextile or trine to the 11th house ruler or cusp). The change energy flows more easily, and you can take control of it without much fighting. The changes that occur are ones you’re happier with, and you feel good about it. But what about when you have a hard 11th house aspect?
A square or opposition can mean that it feels like the changes are out of your control (opposition) or that you’re restless and bored, impulsive and not thinking straight (square). With these two, it’s imperative that you take time first to either adjust to what feels out of your control, or to think about what you want before you jump into anything. A little patience and hesitation can go a long way.
The positive side of squares and oppositions is that they contain much more energy that sextiles and trines, so you can actually create bigger, more profound change with them, and they can be associated with getting yourself out of a big rut (those huge life changes that we have to make sometimes that shake everything up and are terrifying but necessary). A conjunction shows that the energy for change is ripe. It’s so strong that it’s either inevitable or you’ll do whatever it takes to make it happen. The time for change is now, and you don’t want to delay it any longer. It’s important to see these ahead of time so you can plan the change that you want to make, otherwise you’ll just be adjusting constantly to what comes. With the faster planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars), the change can be smaller and not as far-reaching since their aspects only last for a few hours to a few days. When they cross over the 11th house cusp and are in the 11th house, you get a slightly longer period of 1-2 months (or 1-2 days with the Moon) where change can be created. With the slower planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto), their aspects last for a couple of weeks to a couple of years, so they offer you the biggest chance for change. Jupiter makes it easy, while Saturn tests you to make sure you’re doing things the right way. Uranus is the natural ruler of the 11th house, so this can make the change more natural or bigger. Neptune can make it a little harder to grasp, but is good for changes at a soul level. And Pluto can bring the biggest change of all since he’s the planet of transformation, so merging change and transformation energies creates a force for you to turn your life around or upside down. Inspiration can strike at any moment, and be gone just like that. Where does inspiration come from astrologically? You have a few places you can look at: the 5th house, Neptune & the 12th house, and the asteroid Muses. The 5th House & Inspiration
The 5th house is the house of creativity, and the first place you look to for inspiration. The sign on the cusp and planets in the house can show what inspires you and how you’re inspired, if it comes easily to you (the Sun, Mercury, Venus, or Jupiter in the 5th house) or if it’s something you struggle with at times (Saturn, Uranus, or Pluto in the 5th house).
When you have positive aspects (sextiles and trines) by the transit (moving) planets to the 5th house cusp or planetary ruler, these can be times when inspiration is easy for you to find, and your creative energy can flow. Hard aspects (squares and oppositions) can make inspiration difficult to find, it can come and go, or you feel blocked. A conjunction to the cusp or ruler can bring heightened energy one way or the other, depending on the planet involved and other aspects occurring at the same time. When a planet transits the 5th house, this can bring inspiration and your creative energy out more, or block it more. Jupiter, Mars, or Venus in the 5th house can bring you the most inspiration, while Uranus in the 5th house can bring erratic streaks, and Saturn can bring the biggest blocks. Neptune and the 12th House & Inspiration
Neptune and the 12th house rule our imagination and soul, so when either of these are being activated with transit aspects, you can experience a surge in energy for your imagination, and a stirring in your soul that inspires you. Again, the positive aspects make it easy, while the hard aspects make it difficult, and conjunctions can amplify either way.
Transit planets in the 12th house can make your imaginative energy stronger and easier (Jupiter, Mars, Venus), or harder to manage well (Saturn, Pluto, Uranus). The sign and house placement of your Neptune, and the sign on the cusp and planets in the house of your 12th house can show what inspires your soul and how your imaginative energy is expressed. The Asteroid Muses & Inspiration
The Muses are a group of asteroids that are linked to inspiration - of course! These nine asteroids can give us more creative energy in the natal chart, and when triggered by transit planets (being aspected by the transit planets) or the transit Muses are aspecting our charts, we can be much more inspired.
You can find the location of your Muses and get an ephemeris for them on astro.com for free. The asteroid Muses are: 22 - Calliope: Muse of Epic Poetry 84 - Clio: Muse of History 27 - Euterpe: Muse of Music, Song, and Elegiac Poetry 62 - Erato: Muse of Lyric Poetry 18 - Melpomene: Muse of Tragedy 33 - Polyhymnia: Muse of Hymns 81 - Terpsichore: Muse of Dance 23 - Thalia: Muse of Comedy 30 - Urania: Muse of Astronomy (and astrology!)
