Jupiter enters a new sign, air sign Libra, on September 9th 2016 at 7:18AM ET. Jupiter has spent the last year in earth sign Virgo, sign of work, daily life, and health, and we go from a focus on the mundane and what needs to be done to a focus on relationships, connection, and commitment. Libra is the sign of relationships and commitment, so we can see more people coming together during Jupiter’s time in Libra, and more people taking the next step in relationships. There can be more emphasis on love and marriage, and we can benefit more from partnerships. Libra governs partnerships in general, not just marriage and romantic relationships, so we can see more partnering up occurring between people, corporations, or governments. Coming together can benefit us, and it can help us keep the peace, another thing Libra rules. We want peace, harmony, compromise, and for everyone to get along, and the world can be better when we strive for it. Libra is ruler of equality, fairness, and justice, so this can become something we strive for even more. Issues related to race, gender, and sexuality can be brought forth as we try to work on what blocks us from being truly open. We can open ourselves up to understanding, and try to be more willing to see the other side. Libra is represented by the scales, so we can weigh the pros and cons more, and try to give time and attention to every outcome, every opinion, every side to the story. At the same time, we may be more indecisive than usual because of this. The last time Jupiter was in Libra was September 2004 - October 2005, so try to remember what occurred in your life during that period to get a sense of what may come now for you personally. Unfortunately, there is some great difficulty with Jupiter in Libra - a cardinal t-square! We go from having a mutable t-square while Jupiter was in Virgo to now having a cardinal t-square with Jupiter in Libra. A t-square occurs when at least two planets oppose one another and both square (3 signs away) a third planet, forming what looks like a T. T-squares occur in signs of the same quality, and this new t-square will be in cardinal signs - Jupiter in Libra opposite Uranus in Aries with both square Pluto in Capricorn. We had a cardinal t-square with these 3 planets in 2013 - 2014, and this seemed to help contribute to the rise of ISIS and terror activity. This is because cardinal signs are the active signs, the first signs of their elements, and they take action. The difference then was Jupiter was in Cancer, so Uranus in Aries was the squared planet (the squared planet gets all of the energy funneled to it), which greatly increased the hot energy, and Libra was the missing sign, the sign of peace (the missing sign is what we’re missing and need). This time, Pluto in Capricorn will be the squared planet, and Cancer will be the missing sign. Pluto in Capricorn has impacted a lot of the changes in government and countries since Pluto entered Capricorn, so we’ll likely see more changes in governments, and governments and leaders falling around the world, more nationalism, and the anti-establishment sentiment will likely continue as well as people continue to rage against the machine. With Cancer missing, this is the sign of emotion, of home and family, of internal foundations, and of country, so we may be missing emotional and familial connections, and focus more on the external and not enough on the internal. We need to remember that we’re all one big human family, and the Earth is our collective home. Energy was supercharged last time though because the t-square was exact at times between Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto. That won’t be the case this time since Uranus and Pluto won’t exactly square one another. Jupiter exactly squares Pluto November 24th 2016, March 30th 2017 in retrograde, and August 4th 2017, and exactly opposes Uranus December 26th 2016, March 2nd 2017 in retrograde, and September 28th 2017, so these dates may be when the cardinal energy is strongest. While Jupiter has been in Virgo with a mutable t-square, we’ve also occasionally had a cardinal t-square at the same time, and when Jupiter enters Libra, we’ll also have a mutable t-square going on with Mercury retrograde (appearing to move backward) in Virgo, the sign Jupiter leaves, and the Sun in Virgo. The start of Jupiter in Libra may kick off with a bang because of this (to early October). Every time we’ve had this overlap of energy with a cardinal t-square and a mutable t-square, we’ve seen some big attacks in the world. Mutable energy is also active, like cardinal energy, but cardinal energy tends to have a focus and is directed, while mutable energy tends to be scattered and unfocused. So having them team up usually isn’t a good thing, and we’ll need to be extra careful during these periods. There will be another overlap with a mutable t-square April 21st - June 21st 2017 as the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars tour Gemini, and another July 25th to the end of Jupiter in Libra (October 10th 9:20AM ET), with the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars touring Virgo. Keep an eye on these periods. Meanwhile, a grand cross will occur June 4th - August 26th 2017. A grand cross is like a t-square, except there is no missing sign, a fourth planet occupies it. With Cancer being the missing cardinal sign, the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars will tour Cancer during that time frame, forming a cardinal grand cross. Grand crosses actually tend to be more stable than t-squares since there’s nothing missing, but we need to direct the energy positively, otherwise we can get super frustrated. On top of all of this, the ruler of Libra, Venus, will retrograde while Jupiter is in Libra, March 4th - April 15th 2017. We can feel super off during this time, and have a hard time with expansion, exploration, and optimism. We may be extra lazy and tactless, and need to be more considerate. Jupiter will retrograde starting February 6th 2017, and will begin that retrograde sextile (positive aspect, two signs away) transit Saturn in Sagittarius. The two are actually sextile one another starting December 2016 in orb through the turn retrograde in February, but are never exactly sextile one another. This can be a stabilizing period though, and we can be more responsible and calm. Jupiter is retrograde in Libra to June 9th 2017, and ends at 13 degrees Libra, which is a critical degree, a point of critical energy. That is in the middle of the double t-square/grand cross energy, so things may be on edge mid-2017. SO the planets aren’t playing very nicely while Jupiter is in Libra, and we still have more wild energy to manage over the next year. Remember, we need an emotional connection, to come together as one family, and see this is all our home. Stop focusing outside and look within. Come together and work for peace and equality. Be fair, be just, understand both sides. Or hide under a rock! September 2016 New & Full Moons: Solar Eclipse in Virgo, Lunar Eclipse in Pisces & New Moon in Libra8/17/2016
It’s eclipse month! September brings with it the second set of eclipses for 2016, and the first eclipse is a solar eclipse in Virgo to kick the month off on September 1st at 5:03AM ET. Eclipses are just like new and full moons, with solar eclipses corresponding to new moons and lunar eclipses corresponding to full moons (technically speaking, eclipses occur when a new or full moons occurs within 18 ½ degrees of the lunar nodes). The difference between them is, the new and full moons impact for two weeks, while eclipses can impact up to six months before and after. A long time! So this first eclipse occurs in earth sign Virgo, sign of work, daily life, and health. Solar eclipses are enthusiastic and can signal new beginnings, just like new moons, but with an extra dose of energy. The problem with this solar eclipse is that it occurs in the same sign that Mercury is retrograde (appearing to move backward) in - uh oh! Now, this isn’t as troubling as a lunar eclipse in the sign Mercury is retrograde, and can actually be excellent for second chances and starting over again. Pick back up old work projects and give them another shot. Give old routines another chance, pick back up old health regimens that can be helpful now. This solar eclipse also triggers the mutable t-square we’ve got cooking with Jupiter in Virgo opposite Neptune in Pisces and both square (three signs away) from Saturn in Sagittarius. The eclipse is opposite Neptune and square Saturn (not conjunct Jupiter though). So we can get some extra spicy energy jazzing up the mutable t-square, and we’ve gotta fight hard to not get caught up in the highly scattered energy (especially since we’ll also be fresh into a cardinal t-square at the same time too!). It’s incredibly high energy to start the month, so do your best to stay grounded and focus the energy as best as you can. This solar eclipse occurs at 9 degrees 1 minute Virgo. The aspects to this eclipse are: Conjunction: 4 degrees 1 minute - 14 degrees 1 minute Virgo Semisextile: 7 degrees 1 minute - 11 degrees 1 minute Leo or Libra Sextile: 4 degrees 1 minute - 14 degrees 1 minute Cancer or Scorpio Square: 4 degrees 1 minute - 14 degrees 1 minute Gemini or Sagittarius Trine: 4 degrees 1 minute - 14 degrees 1 minute Taurus or Capricorn Quincunx: 7 degrees 1 minute - 11 degrees 1 minute Aries or Aquarius Opposition: 4 degrees 1 minute - 14 degrees 1 minute Pisces Then we have the lunar eclipse, which occurs on September 16th at 3:05PM ET in Pisces. Pisces is the sign of compassion, intuition, imagination, spirituality, and sacrifice, so we can do more for one another, have stronger gut instincts, let our imagination soar, get in touch with your spiritual needs, and make sacrifices for those we care about. Pisces is also the last sign, associated with endings, as are lunar eclipses, so there can be some important endings around this time, and we can all be collectively purging our lives in some way, shape, or form. This eclipse squares transit (moving) Mars in Sagittarius, so our anger, energy, and aggression may be high. We’ll need outlets for our riled up emotions to avoid getting into big arguments or big accidents. The eclipse is semisextile (positive aspect, one sign away) transit Uranus in Aries, which can help us to settle issues of individuality, originality, eccentricity, idealism, or independence. And this lunar eclipse is conjunct (aligned with) transit Chiron, an asteroid dubbed the wounded healer and is associated with our wounds, what we need to heal from and how. We may see a big wound opening up somewhere, or a big wound closing somewhere, or both. We can be extra sensitive with this lunar eclipse. Lunar eclipses tend to be more emotional and make us more sensitive anyway, but that’s even more the case with it in sensitive Pisces, and with it conjunct sensitive Chiron. We might do well having a little bit of armor, but not too much. It’s okay to feel the bad stuff. This lunar eclipse occurs at 24 degrees 20 minutes Pisces. The aspects to this lunar eclipse are: Conjunction: 19 degrees 20 minutes - 29 degrees 20 minutes Pisces Semisextile: 22 degrees 20 minutes - 26 degrees 20 minutes Aries or Aquarius Sextile: 19 degrees 20 minutes - 29 degrees 20 minutes Taurus or Capricorn Square: 19 degrees 20 minutes - 29 degrees 20 minutes Gemini or Sagittarius Trine: 19 degrees 20 minutes - 29 degrees 20 minutes Cancer or Scorpio Quincunx: 22 degrees 20 minutes - 26 degrees 20 minutes Leo or Libra Opposition: 19 degrees 20 minutes - 29 degrees 20 minutes Virgo There is a third lunar event in September, a new moon to close the month on September 30th at 8:11PM ET in Libra. After the wild and wacky eclipses, the month comes to a close with a very quiet, almost peaceful new moon. We can work on connecting better with one another, forging new partnerships and alliances, striving for peace and harmony, and seeing the good in all. We can come together, understand, and try to see both sides. We can compromise, be fair, strive for equality and justice, and get along better. Libra is the sign of relationships, so this can be a good new moon for working on your relationships, as well as focusing on new ones. These can be any type of relationship, not just romantic ones. Strive to attain some balance and equality with the people in your life. Libra is also the sign of peace and compromise, so we may be actively working to put the pieces back together after the tumultuous retrograde + eclipse + 2 t-squares period. Let’s meet in the middle and move forward together . . . This new moon occurs at 8 degrees 15 minutes Libra. The aspects to this new moon are: Conjunction: 6 degrees 15 minutes - 10 degrees 15 minutes Libra Sextile: 6 degrees 15 minutes - 10 degrees 15 minutes Leo or Sagittarius Square: 6 degrees 15 minutes - 10 degrees 15 minutes Cancer or Capricorn Trine: 6 degrees 15 minutes - 10 degrees 15 minutes Gemini or Aquarius Opposition: 6 degrees 15 minutes - 10 degrees 15 minutes Aries Suggested Reading: The New & Full Moons page for general interpretations Strength can be defined in many ways. You can be strong emotionally, mentally, spiritually, or physically. Astrologically, strength in general is usually seen with Pluto, Scorpio, and the 8th house. Emotional Strength
Emotions are ruled by the Moon, 4th house, and Cancer, so having your Moon in Scorpio or the 8th house, Pluto in Cancer or the 4th house, your 4th house cusp in Scorpio or 8th house cusp in Cancer, or your natal Moon in aspect to your natal Pluto can show a natural emotional strength.
All of us can find the way we can be emotionally strong through the Moon-Pluto midpoint, the exact middle of your Moon and Pluto, which is where their energies merge. This position can show you the best way for you to cultivate emotional strength. Focus on the sign and house position, and any planets conjunct, square, or opposite. You can work on developing emotional strength under transits which help you focus on the energy. You can do this when transit Pluto is in your 4th house, transit Moon is in your 8th house, with transit Pluto sextile or trine your natal Moon, or with transit Jupiter, Saturn, or Pluto conjunct, square, or opposite your Moon-Pluto midpoint. Mental Strength
The mind is ruled by Mercury, Gemini, and the 3rd house, so having your Mercury in Scorpio or the 8th house, Pluto in Gemini or the 3rd house, your 3rd house cusp in Scorpio or your 8th house cusp in Gemini, or your natal Mercury in aspect to your natal Pluto can show a natural mental strength.
Your Mercury-Pluto midpoint can show how you can cultivate mental strength as well. You can work on developing mental strength when transit Pluto is in your 3rd house, transit Mercury is in your 8th house, with transit Pluto conjunct, sextile or trine your natal Mercury, or with transit Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, or Pluto conjunct, square, or opposite your Mercury-Pluto midpoint. Spiritual Strength
Your spiritual self is ruled by Neptune, Pisces, and the 12th house, so having your Neptune in Scorpio or the 8th house, Pluto in Pisces or the 12th house, your 8th house cusp in Pisces or 12th house cusp in Scorpio, or with natal Neptune in aspect to your natal Pluto can show spiritual strength, and your Neptune-Pluto midpoint can show you the best way to cultivate spiritual strength.
You can work on developing spiritual strength when transit Neptune is in your 8th house, transit Pluto is in your 12th house, transit Pluto is conjunct, sextile, or trine your natal Neptune or transit Neptune is conjunct, sextile, or trine your natal Pluto, or when transit Jupiter or Saturn are conjunct, square, or opposite your Neptune-Pluto midpoint. Physical Strength
Physical strength can be seen with Mars, Aries, and the 1st house, having Mars in Scorpio or the 8th house, Pluto in Aries or the 1st house, the 1st house cusp in Scorpio or the 8th house cusp in Aries, or natal Mars in aspect to natal Pluto, and your Mars-Pluto midpoint can show you the way to develop physical strength.
You can work on it when transit Pluto is in your 1st house, transit Mars is in your 8th house, transit Pluto is sextile or trine your natal Mars, transit Mars is conjunct, sextile, or trine your natal Pluto, or transit Jupiter or Saturn are conjunct, square, or opposite your Mars-Pluto midpoint. Strength in general:
For strength in general, you can look at your Sun, which rules you overall, and if you have your natal Sun in aspect to your natal Pluto, this can give you more general strength.
Your Sun-Pluto midpoint can show how to cultivate general strength, and you can work on it with any positive transit aspect to your natal Sun, or transit Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto conjunct, square, or opposite your Sun-Pluto midpoint. It can also be helpful to focus on your Black Moon Lilith, who governs a hidden, inner power and strength that we all have access to. Suggested Reading: The Black Moon Lilith series |
