The transit (moving) Moon is the fastest planet in astrology, and it zips through all 12 Zodiac signs in less than one month. It usually spends 2-3 days in each Zodiac sign. One phenomena associated with the Moon is the void-of-course Moon. The Moon is void of connections in its course of movement through the Zodiac, stalling and slowing energy a great deal. The slow, stalled energy of the void Moon can make it a challenging period to maneuver. So, learn about what the void Moon periods are, what to do with them, and what not to! The 3 Different Void-of-Course Moon Periods
There are actually 3 different void-of-course Moon periods in astrology. The first is the most well-known, and it begins when the transit Moon makes the last major aspect to another transit planet while in the Zodiac sign it currently is, and ends when the transit Moon enters the next sign.
Almost every void-of-course Moon calendar uses this void Moon. It's the only one I personally use as well, and the other two are more obscure and not in circulation much. The second void-of-course Moon period starts when the transit Moon makes the last major aspect to your natal planets while in the Zodiac sign it currently is, and ends when the transit Moon makes the first major aspect to your natal planets after entering a new sign. This is a period void Moon period that depends on your own natal chart. Because of this, it only impacts you and NOT the people around you or anyone else. It means you're personally in limbo, stalled, and uncertain, until the Moon enters a new sign and makes a major aspect to your natal chart. This void Moon period requires you to keep track of the transit aspects the Moon makes to your natal planets each day. If all of your natal planets are bunched together by degree, then this personal void Moon period can last quite long; if all of your natal planets are spread wide apart, then this personal void Moon period can be really short. The third void-of-course Moon is straightforward, and is when the transit Moon comes to 27 degrees of its sign, and ends when it reaches 3 degrees of the next sign. This is a traditional void Moon that used to be more popular before computers because it's so easy. With this third void-of-course Moon period, the idea is that they Moon is gearing up to enter a new sign toward the end, and then adjusting to the new sign toward the beginning, and this stalls and slows energy. What You SHOULD Do During a Void-of-Course Moon
There is a time for everything in astrology, even the void-of-course Moon! The first thing that the void Moon period is great for is tying up loose ends and finishing what you've started.
Since this isn't a great time for anything new, it can be excellent for anything you've already started and want to continue the pace with. You can get the little things done, and get it finished, and move on. The second thing the void Moon period is great for is getting rest. Since energy is slower, this is an excellent time to get needed rest and relaxation. Many of us get pretty tired during void Moon periods, so if that's what you feel called to, that can be a great thing to do. If you've been working quite a bit lately, or haven't been sleeping well, the void Moon offers a chance to slow down and rest. The third thing the void Moon period is great for is being introspective. Pretty much all of these kinds of things in astrology are excellent for introspection, and we can take the slower energy as an opportunity to reflect, to be quiet, and to understand. We're not big on anything too loud and too demanding, and we may want to retreat from work, chores, and responsibilities. A little time for reflection can fit in well. Finally, the void Moon period is also great for anything you don't want to follow through with. Yes, you read that right! If you don't want to follow through with something, either make the decision/promise/commitment during the void Moon period, or schedule it to occur during a void-of-course Moon. Do both, and it'll likely completely fall through! Remember that energy slows, we're not up for anything new, and the Moon is riding aimlessly. This makes it great for anything you don't want to follow through with, since the Moon isn't interested either. What NOT to Do During a Void-of-Course Moon
The number one thing you'll read and hear about with the void-of-course Moon period is it's a bad time for starting anything new. If it's something you really want to follow through with and accomplish, try to avoid starting it during the void-of-course Moon.
I also try to avoid major purchases during the void-of-course Moon. I take a similar approach as with the retrogrades, and feel that major purchases during the void Moon period get delayed, have extra issues, and will require more of your attention upon arrival. Exercise may be a challenge during the void-of-course Moon period since energy is on the low side anyway. We may not feel up for any kind of exercise, especially when we're craving a nap more than anything! This can especially be the case if it's physically-demanding exercise, If it's soothing, calming exercise, then you might be okay. In general, anything physically demanding may not be a great idea during the void Moon period. You may not want to go for a hike, or cook a huge meal, or move around all of your furniture. You just lack the energy for it. Suggested Reading: Void-of-Course Moon Periods in the Zodiac Signs Astrology charts have something called the houses, and there are 12 of them, and each rule a different part of our lives and personalities. They have their own impact, their own flavor, and can do different things. The very last house is the 12th house, and this is the house of the hidden. As a result, this is the house that keeps us out of the spotlight and in the background. Natal Planets & the Twelfth House
When you were born with planets and bodies located in your natal 12th house, this makes the energy of the 12th house the natural energy for whatever that planet or body rules. This means you tend to avoid attention for whatever it rules, and want to stay out of the spotlight as much as possible.
This tends to be most obvious when it's your natal Sun or Moon. 12th house Suns and Moons are fairly notorious for how much they want to avoid attention, and being around strangers can make them very uncomfortable (for this reason, it's not a super common placement for anyone famous!). It plays out with all of the planets and bodies though. 12th house Venus? You may like secret affairs and hate PDA. 12th house Pluto? You're externally pleasant and internally powerful. 12th house Mars? You may seem passive but have crazy energy when alone. And on and on. Also note that every single one of us has the 12th house in a Zodiac sign. Whatever that sign rules, you likely don't want any attention for it. This means that even if you don't have any natal planets or bodies in the 12th house, you still have this anti-attention energy with whatever the sign your 12th house falls in rules. Transit Planets & the Twelfth House
The transit (moving) planets can also tour your natal 12th house at times, and when they do, their energy is hidden from the outside world. The Sun, Mercury, and Venus tour your natal 12th house every year, and you can run from attention with the Sun, keep your opinions to yourself with Mercury, and keep affection behind closed doors with Venus when touring your 12th house.
Mars tours your 12th house every 2 years or so, and this can dampen your energy levels around others significantly, and you can find they drain you. Yet you can have a ton of energy when you've had time to rest and pursue things alone. The Moon tours your 12th house every month for a few days, and these few days can be when you have the least amount of energy for the month, at least around other people. On your own, you can do well, so this can be a time when you shy away from attention of any kind. The other planets take longer to go through your 12th house, but the same rules apply. The energy is hidden, and you generally feel comfortable manifesting their energy when you're not getting attention and away from others. Progressed Planets & the Twelfth House
Your progressed chart adds one day to your date of birth for every year you've been alive to create a new chart reflecting your maturation and growth, and can be used in predictive analysis.
Your natal planets can move into your progressed 12th house, and your progressed planets can move into your natal or progressed 12th house, and this can bring anti-attention energy to you. This tends to last for a long time, so it may start to feel natural, almost like a natal placement after a while. You can avoid attention with whatever the planet or body rules, and you can almost retreat when progressions are in play. You can thrive with the planet or body alone, out of the spotlight, and when operating on instinct; but when under pressure, or others are involved, or you're getting attention for it, you may shrivel. Know that it's okay! The 12th house isn't bad. Of course we're not all going to be comfortable having everything out in public. That would be nuts. Just look at how miserable people are with social media LOL! Suggested Reading: All About the Twelfth House in Astrology March 2023 comes with a full moon in productive, get-things-done Virgo, and a new moon in energetic Aries, which sets off a LOT of energy. How do they impact us? What is a New Moon?
A new moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact same position in the Zodiac (called a conjunction). New moons are related to beginnings, have high energy, and are enthusiastic.
What is a Full Moon?
A full moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact opposite positions in the Zodiac (called an opposition). Full moons are related to endings, culminations, and are emotional energy.
Full Moon in Virgo: March 7th 2023 (8:41M ET/5:41AM PT)
Virgo is the sign of work, and full moons are times of endings, so put them together and Virgo full moons are great times for getting projects, tasks, and chores done. All of the work we've been avoiding, we can get to now, and it's a great time to clear out your list of things to do and shrink it way down.
With Virgo ruling work, we can become more invested in the work that we're passionate about, and can make more progress. If we don't enjoy the work we're doing daily, or outright hate it, then we can hate it more and have more difficulties. We need to make sure we're doing something each day that we enjoy in a healthy way. Virgo is the ruler of health and stress, and Virgo full moons are notorious for how stressful they can make us feel. If there's any frustrations you're bottling up, anything annoying you that you've tried to ignore, that can blow up. If stress has been building, that can explode. This can create more anxiety, and this can lead to more physical health issues, which are usually manifestations of something emotional under Virgo full moons. Try to take care of yourself, and work on routine maintenance and checkups (which Virgo rules). This full moon is trine (four signs away) transit (moving) Uranus in Taurus, which is a beneficial aspect. Uranus is the planet of change and the unconventional, so this aspect helps push us outside of our comfort zones a little bit to find solutions that may be different from what we'd normally attempt. This can help us get out of jams more easily, and we can find new ways of being more productive and taking care of the little things. The full moon occurs at 16 degrees 40 minutes Virgo. Aspects to the full moon are: Conjunction: 14 degrees 40 minutes - 18 degrees 40 minutes Virgo Sextile: 14 degrees 40 minutes - 18 degrees 40 minutes Cancer or Scorpio Square: 14 degrees 40 minutes - 18 degrees 40 minutesGemini or Sagittarius Trine: 14 degrees 40 minutes - 18 degrees 40 minutes Taurus or Capricorn Opposition: 14 degrees 40 minutes - 18 degrees 40 minutes Pisces New Moon in Aries: March 21st 2023 (1:23PM ET/10:23AM PT)
The Aries new moon is a fabulous time for new beginnings. Aries is the very first Zodiac sign, which makes it associated with new beginnings, and new moons are times of new beginnings, so put them together, and it's a major time for a new start. Focus on a new project, opportunity, or venture you want to get going with, and take the initiative to make it happen. You can make use of energy and enthusiasm, and this can work to your advantage.
This new moon occurs at 0 degrees Aries, which is the 0 degrees Aries Point, a special position in astrology. It's a time of super high energy, and just adds to this fabulous new beginning energy we have. We're extra motivated to take action, and to make our ideas, opportunities, and dreams something tangible, something we can hold in our hands, something we can see with our own eyes. The internal craves to become external now, and we can work on bringing this out. This new moon is the first new moon of two consecutive new moons in Aries, and the next new moon is a solar eclipse in Aries on April 20th! Usually, two new moons in a row in the same sign mean that they link together, and we can get started with the energy with the first new moon (which is this one), and make progress, see results, finalize, or culminate with the second new moon (which is the solar eclipse). The solar eclipse is triggered in May, so this may actually not finish with the solar eclipse, but keep going for the next 2 months. So, whatever you embark on now, whatever new beginning you start, it's one that you'll likely be hyper focused on and excited about for the next 6-8 weeks! The new moon is opposite transit (moving) Ceres, which is retrograde (appearing to move backward) in Libra, and gearing up to go back to Virgo on March 22nd. Ceres is a dwarf planet ruling nourishment and support, and this has been thrown off since it turned retrograde on February 3rd. In Libra, this has impacted relationships and dealings with others, and we've had to tackle relationship issues and confront relationship baggage. This new moon can shine a spotlight on anything that is left that we haven't worked on thus far in the retrograde before Ceres leaves Libra. There may be a major, important development in the world regarding an alliance, partnership, resource, or money around this time as well. Make sure to mind your money! The new moon occurs at 0 degree 50 minutes Aries. The aspects to the new moon are: Conjunction: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 50 minutes Aries Sextile: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 50 minutes Gemini or Aquarius Square: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 50 minutes Cancer or Capricorn Trine: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 50 minutes Leo or Sagittarius Opposition: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 50 minutes Libra Suggested Reading: The New & Full Moons page for general interpretations by house and aspect Saturn, the planet of restrictions, limitations, responsibilities, and lessons, is going to enter a new sign, Pisces, on March 7th 2023, so Saturn is nearing the end of its time in Aquarius. This means that very soon, Saturn will be anaretic in Aquarius, giving us one last kick of this energy before exiting. What does this mean? Anaretic in astrology
There are 30 degrees in every Zodiac sign, and the last degree is 29 degrees. This is called the anaretic degree, and it's crisis energy when the transit planets come to this degree.
This isn't as big of a deal with the fast planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Ceres), but can be a big deal with the slower planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) because they'll be at the anaretic degree for a much longer period of time. The exception with the fast planets is when they're retrograde, and then they can be as powerful and often trigger something important. When a planet is at the anaretic degree for some time, this amplifies the energy of the planet and the Zodiac sign it's in for all of us all at once. This can be intense, unrelenting energy, and it can be difficult to manage as we're extra frustrations. We can feel stuck, which can cause us to lash out and act impulsively, but this isn't smart and usually adds to problems. The slow planets can often be at the anaretic degree 3 times if they retrograde back-and-forth between Zodiac signs when they're going to switch to a new sign. This won't be the case with Saturn in Aquarius, and once Saturn moves into Pisces, Saturn won't come back to Aquarius again for a few decades. This means we get one shot with Saturn in Aquarius at the anaretic degree, and while this is helpful in that we won't have to deal with it again, it may also mean that it's more intense and focused since it's just one shot. Anaratic Saturn in Aquarius 2023 Impact:
First, let's consider the energy of Saturn. Saturn is the planet of lessons, and is restrictive in nature. We can feel like we have less options when Saturn gets involved, which can be frustrating, but can also clarify as we have less to sift through.
With Saturn anaretic, this can be heightened. We're extra restricted, extra limited, and extra frustrated. Responsibilities may weigh very heavily on us, and this can be frustrating and overwhelming. We may want to run, get as much space as we can, but this usually creates more problems. We shouldn't act impulsively and give in to the restrictive feelings of Saturn. Instead, we need to power through it, and try to find small amounts of space within the existing structures, and work on getting to the core problems. There is likely an important lesson that needs to be learned; this may be a collective lesson, something we need to learn on a mass scale since we're all feeling this. We need to be more responsible and ethical in some way, more considerate and willing to do hard things. Then, we consider the energy of Aquarius. Aquarius rules groups and the masses, so this seems to add to the idea that we collectively have something to learn. Will we learn this the easy way, or the hard way? I think we know the way humans usually choose! There could be an incident, some sort of event, involving a big group, that leads to major change or a shift in perspective somehow, so that's something to be mindful of during this period. Aquarius rules the future and is a tech ruler. This may not be a great period for the tech industry (mind your investments!), and we can see more tech problems emerging, in the industry itself, but also things like shutdowns, hacks, etc. The future can be especially on our minds, and we may focus on what challenges we currently need to work through in order to create the future we dream of. We may want to launch into the future too quickly, and need to accept that it's a series of steps along a journey that gets us there, and not one big leap. Aquarius rules individuality, the unconventional, the different, and change, since it's naturally ruled by Uranus. This means we can push the boundaries a little bit, get outside of our comfort zones, or feel challenged to do so. This isn't a time to be meek and timid. It's a time to be loud! Saturn will be anaretic in Aquarius February 26th to March 7th 2023, which is when Saturn enters Pisces, so this is only 10 days. But it can be a big 10 days! Pluto is also anaretic at the same time, but in Capricorn. This means we have some seriously massive energy right now challenging us in so many ways, and we need to make sure we're being mindful of our actions and decisions, and careful with our approach. Pluto is going to enter Aquarius, so hopefully, we've taken the time to learn the necessary lessons with Saturn in Aquarius. That can make Pluto in Aquarius easier, at least at the onset. If we haven't learned, we may become aware of what we need to do now. Also take note if you have anything at the anaretic degree in your natal chart, so anything at 29 degrees of any Zodiac sign. That is lit up by Saturn and Pluto! Make sure you're tending to whatever the planet or body rules, and working to improve, change, and embrace. Chiron is the wounded healer in astrology, so when Chiron is in play, this can bring up old wounds as well as healing energy, depending on what it's doing. Let's dive more into Chiron's impact on love when it's strong. Strong Chiron in the Natal Chart & Love Astrology
If Chiron is strong with the love areas of your natal chart, Chiron can have a strong impact on love and relationships for you overall. This can mean that you likely have a major love trauma, major love wound, suffered when young that impacts you for a long time afterward.
It's important for you to work on healing this wound, otherwise it can open more and worsen, and become the dominating part of your relationships. You can then be very understanding and supportive of the people in your life once you do heal. This can also show you attracting wounded birds to you pretty often. Sometimes, this plays out professionally, and you'll become a therapist, social worker, work in the medical field, or help people spiritually. In relationships, this may play out as you attracting people who you want to heal, and it becomes important for you to learn that you can't fix someone who doesn't want to be fixed. Chiron can be strong in love if your natal Chiron is: - conjunct (aligned with) your natal Sun, Moon, Venus, Descendant, or 7th house ruler (strongest) - located in your 5th or 7th houses - is in Libra - conjunct natal Juno (asteroid of commitment), natal Amor (asteroid of romance), natal Cupido (asteroid of crushes), or natal Eros (asteroid of sex) Strong Chiron in Love & Astrology Transits
Chiron can become dominating energy for you in transits as well. When transit (moving) Chiron is touring your 5th house (of love) or 7th house (of relationships), this can dig up any love and relationship wounds that need to be addressed. It can be a sensitive time for you in your relationships, but ultimately helps you to heal and grow.
Transit Chiron can also aspect your natal Venus, Descendant, or 5th or 7th house rulers, and this can also impact love and relationships for you. Under sextiles and trines, these are the beneficial aspects, and you can have an easier time healing and growing in relationships. It's stronger when transit Chiron is conjunct, square, or opposite, the challenging aspects, and this can bring out the wounds and old love traumas. You can be extra sensitive and deeply emotional, and vulnerability can leave you open to further hurts, so it's important to protect yourself and work on boundaries. Strong Chiron and the Progressed Chart
The progressed chart adds one day to your date of birth for every year you've been alive to create a new chart reflective of your maturation and growth, and can be used in predictive analysis. Chiron isn't a fast-moving body, so it generally doesn't move very far from where it is in the natal chart, however it can become strong thanks to the other progressed planets and houses.
When the progressed planets and house cusps conjunct your natal or progressed Chiron, this can bring out strong Chiron energy for you. When it's progressed Venus, this can have a direct impact on love and relationships for you, and you can be challenged to grow in new ways in your connections. When your progressed 5th house cusp or Descendant conjuncts your natal or progressed Chiron, this can bring extra focus on healing and growth in your relationships as well. With the Descendant, you may also attract people to you who you help with healing, but again, you need to maintain healthy boundaries. Strong Chiron and the Composite Chart
The composite chart merges the natal charts of two people to create a new chart for the relationship itself. When Chiron is strong in the composite chart, this can show that the relationship has the potential to wound or to heal.
Chiron in the composite 1st house or making a lot of hard aspects in the composite chart can be on the concerning side, and has more capacity for wounding. But, if it's conjuncting other composite planets or the Descendant, this can also bring potential for wounding, however it also has strong potential for healing. It often depends on the transits involved for each person and to the composite chart, as well as where each of you is in your life at the time you come together. It tends to be more of an issue when you're both young and haven't worked through the old love wounds yet. If you already have done that work, then the relationship can help you grow a great deal. Suggested Reading: Chiron in the Composite Chart There are currently over 20,000 asteroids in astrology (a lot, I know!), and many asteroids link to something specific. Some link to love and relationships, and in this article, we're going to focus on 4 of them: Juno (commitment), Amor (romance), Cupido (crushes), and Eros (sex). The asteroids can turn retrograde, which means they appear to move backward through the Zodiac, When they are retrograde, this can throw their energy off, and we can experience struggles and changes in love and relationships. So, what does it mean when these 4 are retrograde in the natal chart, in transit, and in the progressed chart? Retrograde Love Asteroids in the Natal Chart
If one of these 4 asteroids is retrograde in your natal chart, this means you were born while that asteroid was retrograde. This makes the retrograde energy your natural energy, and the one you closely connect to.
If you were born with asteroid Juno retrograde, this may mean you have some discomfort with commitment or commitment issues or trauma you need to work through. You may need to find new, different ways of showing how committed you are to partners (and projects, plans, ideas, etc.). If you were born with asteroid Amor retrograde, this may mean you have some discomfort with romance. You may have some old love issues and traumas to work through, and can take a different approach to romance. If you were born with asteroid Cupido retrograde, this may mean you have way too many crushes or rarely have any. You may become too infatuated at times, or lack passion, and need to find balance between the two. If you were born with asteroid Eros retrograde, this may mean there are some issues around sex. There may be previous trauma or baggage, and you may need to work on acknowledging your desires in a healthy way. Any of these asteroids retrograde can show relationship and love issues, baggage, and trauma, however they also show you needing to go about using their energy in a way that is different from the norm (whatever the norm means to you). Retrograde Love Asteroids in Transit
When the transit (moving) love asteroids are retrograde, this has a general impact on us all in our relationships. When asteroid Juno is retrograde, people may be less likely to commit, however can reconnect with people from the past they used to be committed to.
When asteroid Amor is retrograde, people may be less romantic, but can reconnect with old flames. When asteroid Cupido is retrograde, people may have less crushes, but can reconnect with old crushes. When asteroid Eros is retrograde, sexual desire can wane, but we can reconnect with old sexual partners. These asteroid retrogrades can dig up subconscious, karmic, and early life traumas and baggage associated with them, so this can be a good time for digging deeper into relationship issues and releasing. This will especially be the case when they are occuring in your natal 7th house (of relationships), 12th house (of spirituality and karma), or in your natal Venus sign (planet of love and relationships). Retrograde Love Asteroids in the Progressed Chart
The progressed charts adds one day to your date of birth for every year you've been alive to create a new chart reflective of your maturation and growth that can be used in predictive analysis. These asteroids can turn retrograde or direct (end a retrograde) in your progressed chart.
When progressed Juno turns retrograde or direct, this can have a massive impact on commitments in your life. You may opt to make a big commitment to someone or something, or you may do the reverse and opt out of a commitment to someone or something. This can be big energy for both marriage and divorce. When progressed Amor turns retrograde or direct, this can have a massive impact on romance in your life. You may be more romantic in all areas of your life, or it may zap out completely. You may throw yourself into a big new romance with someone, and there can be a fated quality to this. Or, you may leave a romantic partnership, and become more practical with love. When progressed Cupido turns retrograde or direct, this can have a massive impact on passion in your life. You may become more passionate in many areas of your life, or passion may wane. You may have lots of crushes and passionate infatuations with others, and one in particular may stand out, and others can be more obsessed with. On the other hand, you may become more disinterested, and want to find new ways of being passionate that aren't so loud and obvious. When progressed Eros turns retrograde or direct, this can have a massive impact on your sex life. You may have lots of new sexual encounters or partners, wanting to explore this side of yourself more fully, or you may pull back and avoid it completely. There can be old issues around sex that need to be addressed. Your creativity can also be impacted, and this can surge and lead to epic inspiration, or it can wane and lead to dry spells.
