April's new moon comes to us on the 5th (4:51AM) in fiery Aries, sign of action. After the floopy energy of March thanks to the Pisces Mercury retrograde, we can go into April wanting to take action and get back in control again with the Aries new moon. Aries wants to take action and have something new and exciting to focus on. It can be an excellent new moon for a new beginning of some sort, and it may be something that you've had on hold for a couple of months. Now you may feel you have the courage to take the initiative and make those first steps happen, and can be willing to go down a new road no one has gone down before. Onward! Aries has lots of energy and excitement, so we may want to keep busy with plenty to do to use up that energy. But it likely can't be anything mundane or tedious or boring at all, otherwise we can lose patience quickly and jump off fast. We need to keep busy with things that excite us, that we're enthusiastic about, and that's positive. We likely don't want to focus on anything too serious for too long. Since Aries is so much energy though, we need to watch for impatience, impulsiveness, and high tempers flaring. When anger erupts, don't give in to aggression and hostility. Try to use the extra energy in a positive and productive way. Have outlets for physical energy, as there may be a lot of it to use up. If we're physically busy, this can cut down on the impatience, impulsiveness, and tempers. This new moon occurs at 15 degrees 17 minutes Aries. The aspects to this new moon are: Conjunction: 13 degrees 17 minutes - 17 degrees 17 minutes Aries Sextile: 13 degrees 17 minutes - 17 degrees 17 minutes Gemini or Aquarius Square: 13 degrees 17 minutes - 17 degrees 17 minutes Cancer or Capricorn Trine: 13 degrees 17 minutes - 17 degrees 17 minutes Leo or Sagittarius Opposition: 13 degrees 17 minutes - 17 degrees 17 minutes Libra April's full moon comes on the 19th (7:12AM) in airy Libra. Libra full moons are usually a time to work on coming together, making compromises, focusing on improving relationships and eliminating issues with others, growing closer with the people we care about and have positive connections to, and let go of the people we don't have healthy connections with. We need more peace and harmony, more balance and serenity. This is the second full moon in a row in the sign of Libra - March's full moon (March 20th) also occurred in Libra. This means that what came to pass or arose with the full moon in March can tie into what comes to pass or arises with the full moon in April, and there can be a continuation of themes and situations. It may be that whatever comes about or is the focus for the March full moon doesn't reach full culmination of a final resolution until the April full moon. The April full moon in Libra is also at a special degree, 29 degrees. 29 degrees is the last degree of any sign is called the anaretic degree, and is a point of crisis energy. So this full moon really does have strong ending and culmination energy with it, and we may feel we frantically need to get things done. Try to stay in control of your energy instead of going all wonky. That just throws you out of balance, which greatly disrupts Libra! Stay calm, stay focused. This full moon occurs at 29 degrees 6 minutes Libra. The aspects to this full moon are: Conjunction: 27 degrees 6 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Libra Sextile: 27 degrees 6 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Leo or Sagittarius Square: 27 degrees 6 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Cancer or Capricorn Trine: 27 degrees 6 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Gemini or Aquarius Opposition: 27 degrees 6 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Aries Since this full moon is so late in Libra, you may also feel aspects made out-of-sign (as if it were in the next sign, Scorpio). Out-of-sign aspects are: Conjunction: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 1 degree 6 minutes Scorpio Sextile: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 1 degree 6 minutes Virgo or Capricorn Square: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 1 degree 6 minutes Leo or Aquarius Trine: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 1 degree 6 minutes Cancer or Pisces 0 degrees 0 minutes - 1 degree 6 minutes Taurus Suggested Reading: The New & Full Moons page for general interpretations Many may fantasize about becoming astrologers, tarot readers, mediums, empaths, or any other kind of spiritual entrepreneur, and wonder when is the right time to do so. First, if your gut is telling you to, then it's probably the right time for you (listen to your instincts!). In general, change-maker Uranus now in money-maker Taurus can create conditions for many to change the way they make money (and with Uranus ruling astrology specifically, more may be focused on trying to become profitable astrologers!). On a personal level, you can look at aspects being made to your natal and progressed charts. Much of what you'll look for will be similar to as if you were looking for any other career aspects - positive aspects (sextiles and trines) by Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto to your 2nd house cusp or ruler (house of money), 6th house cusp or ruler (house of work), and 10th house cusp or ruler (house of career), or to your natal Saturn (planet of career). Any aspect by Uranus (including hard ones) to these points can indicate a change in profession (and the hard aspects are actually super helpful for when you want to make a big change and have felt so stuck or afraid of change that you haven't gotten anywhere thus far). The progressed Midheaven at a critical degree or moving into a new sign can also signal new career developments, and any progressed planet moving into a new sign or a progressed new moon can be excellent for any kind of new beginning in your life (like new work!). For spiritual work in particular, there will often be some Neptune, 12th house, or Pisces involved as these are the spiritual points. Positive aspects to your natal Neptune, your natal or progressed 12th house cusp or ruler, or to natal or progressed Pisces planets can stimulate extra focus on your spiritual self, and guide you toward this kind of work when occurring with other career aspects. Aspects can transit Neptune can also do this, though with the hard aspects, you may have to watch for being drained too much by the work or attracting people who want to take advantage of you (so have those healthy boundaries Neptune requires!). Progressed planets moving into Pisces or your natal 12th house, aspecting your natal Neptune, or your progressed 12th house cusp conjunct, sextile, or trine a natal planet can also bring spiritual focus. Being a spiritual entrepreneur is a job, so it can be a lot of work! But it can also be very rewarding if you feel called to it. Good luck! Suggested Reading: Could YOU be an Astrologer?
Mercury retrograde can be a trying time, and we often experience all manner of mishaps and frustrations during this time. It can be so frustrating that you may think there's no point in preparing for Mercury retrograde. You're just going to get screwed anyway! But that's not true (well, yes, sometimes you will get screwed anyway, but for the most part, you can work to avoid it or mitigate the damages). Why should I prepare for Mercury retrograde?
By preparing for Mercury retrograde, you can see when trouble spots may present themselves. You learn which aspects will be difficult for you, and which you need to prepare for. By knowing the aspects, you can determine how to deal with them.
Mercury is going to square your Pluto? Pluto is passionate energy, so you know you need to have a healthy, positive outlet for the high energy to avoid power struggles. Mercury is going to oppose your Venus? Venus rules the people in your life, so you know you need to be more considerate, compromising, and work on improving relationship issues. By knowing the house(s) Mercury retrograde will occur in, you know what areas of life are going to be targeted most. This allows you to come up with plans for dealing with any issues or making adjustments quickly with those areas of life before the retrograde starts, so it's not so bad. And you can plan to use the re-'s of Mercury retrograde - redo, revise, revisit, reconnect, etc. - with those areas of life during the retrograde so you make the retrograde a positive experience. Mercury's going to retrograde in your 2nd house? Stash some money in case of an emergency, and spend time reconnecting with the present. Mercury's going to retrograde in your 9th house? Make some room and give yourself some extra space, and work on expanding something again. It may feel better to just ignore when these things are happening, but that doesn't make the planets happy at all. Ignoring it usually makes retrogrades worse! So always keep your eye on what's happening, and work with the energy as best as you can. Virtually all of the hard, difficult, challenging astrological events that you can experience have the ability to be mitigated and turned around if you get prepared, know it's coming, and know how to handle it. So the next time you think there's no point, remind yourself that isn't true! And remember, if you ignore the challenging energy, you're not just missing out on a potential opportunity to make things better with that - you're also likely ignoring the beneficial energy. Don't do that to yourself! Be strong, and face it directly. The planets will give you a lot of respect for that, and help you out. Suggested Reading: The Bright Spots During Mercury Retrograde |
