Today we're going to focus on Ceres! Ceres is in Aquarius, and moves into Pisces November 9th. Before that happens, Ceres will be anaretic in Aquarius October 30th to November 9th. What does this mean? Ceres in Astrology
Ceres is technically a dwarf planet, and was the first "asteroid" to be discovered (so it's number 1, literally!). Ceres rules food, grains, cooking, fertility, motherhood, and nourishment.
In mythology, Ceres was the mother of Persephone, who was "gifted" to Pluto, and Ceres was distraught at the loss of her daughter, leading her to refuse to grow crops (food and grains). So Persephone had to spend half the year with Ceres and half the year in the Underworld (so Ceres wouldn't let everyone starve to death!). Some argue that Ceres should be the ruler of Taurus instead of Venus (and Taurus does love its food!). Anaretic Ceres in Aquarius:
With Ceres in Aquarius, we've felt the need to nurture individuality and innovation. We want to allow one another to be their true, eccentric selves, and we want to be accepted for our own quirks and differences as well. Ceres in Aquarius wants to fight for everyone's right to be themselves and be treated with dignity and respect. Ceres first came to Aquarius January 31st then exited April 23rd, and came back in retrograde September 27th.
While Ceres is anaretic in Aquarius, this desire to nurture individuality becomes super important. We can feel a desperate need to be accepted for our individuality by the group, and may lash out if we don't feel we're getting that. But in Ceres way, instead of lashing out by being brash and angry and impulsive, we may withdraw and withhold instead. Mars is currently retrograde, so that does often make us want to lash out in the usual way, but Ceres may tamp this down. We may feel the need to take a stand before it's too late (before it moves to Pisces), and can assess the needs of the "group" (Aquarius) over one person, but this may come at the expense of ourselves. I also worry about food issues (we've already had an abundance of people requiring food assistance thanks to the virus this year, not to mention the supply issues and empty shelves earlier in the year). On a personal level, this energy may be directed towards the areas of life ruled by the house 29 degrees Aquarius falls in your natal chart. Those areas may require you to acknowledge your individuality, take up a group cause, or just give some extra nourishment and care. If you have any anaretic positions in your natal chart (no matter the aspect), that may also require more attention and nourishment. Overall, nourishment becomes much more important with anaretic Ceres, whether it's helping others or helping yourself. Care for those you can, but don't forget self-care either. Ceres can be so concerned with others that it sometimes completely ignores its own needs. Ceres is anaretic in Aquarius for 10 days, and was already anaretic in Aquarius twice this year: April 20th - 23rd and September 27th - October 7th. This can give you an idea of what to expect. Finally, goodbye lunar eclipses! What is a new moon?
A new moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact same position in the Zodiac (called a conjunction). New moons are related to beginnings, have high energy, and are enthusiastic.
What is a lunar eclipse?
A full moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact opposite positions in the Zodiac (called an opposition). Full moons are related to endings, culminations, and are emotional energy. Lunar eclipses occur with full moons.
New Moon in Scorpio: November 15th 2020 (12:07AM ET/ November 14th @ 9:07PM PT)
The Scorpio new moon comes midmonth, and after Mercury retrograde is over (which started in Scorpio) and Mars retrograde just ends 2 days before. We may be taking a good look at reality with this new moon, seeing things as they really are, and trying to take stock of what we need to do to move forward now. We want to build something new, and focus on the opportunities we have going forward instead of being so focused on what has already passed. We've had our eyes locked on the rear view mirror for a while thanks to the retrogrades, so let's look forward!
This is a good time to do research, to find information that has been missing, to start new transformations for the better, and to breathe new life into the old. We can get to the heart of matters, we can make use of passionate energy, and we can feel stronger, more willful, more powerful than before. Hopefully, we're wiser too! The new moon is sextile (positive aspect, two signs away) transit (moving) Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn. These are very helpful aspects that allow us to focus on the big picture and new opportunities thanks to Jupiter. Pluto is the natural ruler of Scorpio, so this helps us feel more at ease with the Scorpio energy and find ways to use it productively. The new moon occurs at 23 degrees 18 minutes Scorpio. Aspects to the new moon are: Conjunction: 21 degrees 18 minutes - 25 degrees 18 minutes Scorpio Sextile: 21 degrees 18 minutes - 25 degrees 18 minutes Virgo or Capricorn Square: 21 degrees 18 minutes - 25 degrees 18 minutes Leo or Aquarius Trine: 21 degrees 18 minutes - 25 degrees 18 minutes Cancer or Pisces Opposition: 21 degrees 18 minutes - 25 degrees 18 minutes Taurus Lunar Eclipse in Gemini: November 30th 2020 (4:30AM ET/1:30AM PT)
The last lunar eclipse for 2020 comes to us on November 30th. We had 4 lunar eclipses in 2020, and usually there's only 2! That's just one of the many astrological reasons this year has been so effed. But we're finally coming to last one, and this is the first eclipse in Gemini we've had for some years (as we're now done with the Cancer/Capricorn set). Gemini is the sign of the mind, so with this lunar eclipse, we can sort through ideas, finalize our plans, and make sure that what we're focused on mentally is what we're most interested in and passionate about. If we're not, we lose interest fast as lightning!
Gemini rules communication while lunar eclipses are emotional, so we may find it easier to express what we're feeling. We can hash things out and give voice to what has been held inside. We may want to talk about things we haven't wanted to before, and we can work on being supportive. We can understand what people really mean, and read between the lines more easily. We can finish learning something or sharing something, and work on connecting with our immediate environments and communities. The more connected we feel, the better handle we can have on our emotions. We may want to focus on the smaller picture for a little while. There may also be some important news with this eclipse, and it can stir up emotions, so we have to make sure we're being logical and factual. The lunar eclipse occurs at 8 degrees 38 minutes Gemini. Aspects to the lunar eclipse are: Conjunction: 3 degrees 38 minutes - 13 degrees 38 minutes Gemini Semisextile: 6 degrees 38 minutes - 10 degrees 38 minutes Taurus or Cancer Sextile: 3 degrees 38 minutes - 13 degrees 38 minutes Aries or Leo Square: 3 degrees 38 minutes - 13 degrees 38 minutes Virgo or Pisces Trine: 3 degrees 38 minutes - 13 degrees 38 minutes Libra or Aquarius Quincunx: 6 degrees 38 minutes - 10 degrees 38 minutes Scorpio or Capricorn Opposition: 3 degrees 38 minutes - 13 degrees 38 minutes Sagittarius Suggested Reading: The New & Full Moons page for general interpretations by house and aspect Black Moon Lilith is on the move! Lilith is going to leave Aries and enter earthy Taurus on October 21st. What can we expect with Black Moon Lilith in Taurus? What is Black Moon Lilith?
First, let's review what Black Moon Lilith is. It's the apogee, or highest point, of the Moon, or the farthest point away the Moon is from Earth in the Moon's orbit.
Black Moon Lilith has two positions, Mean and True/Oscillating. The movement of Lilith is suuuper wonky, so the True/Oscillating is the exact position while the Mean is the averaged out position. You can assess both in the natal chart (thought True/Oscillating tends to have more weight for most of us). For transits, Mean Lilith is much easier to follow. The standard ephemeris on astro.com includes Mean Black Moon Lilith. Black Moon Lilith shows where we speak out, stand up, and hold firm. Lilith was Adam's first wife, and she stood up for herself to Adam in the Garden of Eden, even when it meant getting thrown out! Lilith knew her power and worth, being equal to Adam. Transit Black Moon Lilith can bring this out in all of us in general with the sign it's touring and aspects it makes to the other planets (and personally in the natal house is tours for you and aspects it makes to your natal chart). Impact of Black Moon Lilith in Taurus:
Taurus is the earthiest of signs, and this helps to ground Black Moon Lilith. In Aries, Lilith is assertive and loud, but Black Moon Lilith in Taurus wants to take a step back, press pause, and make sure of its positions first before doing anything.
It may take longer to take a stand with Black Moon Lilith in Taurus, but once we do, we can stay with it no matter what. We can almost be stubborn about it! But we firmly believe in it. We may not be as loud as Lilith in Aries, but we can be more forceful. In mythology, Lilith was made from the Earth, same as Adam. With Taurus being a super Earth sign, Black Moon Lilith in Taurus can bring out that earthy quality. We may be more sensual, and mystical energy can be of the earthy sort. It'd be a good time for rituals and spells that involve the Earth. This can also bring out more concern for the Earth, and we may focus more on trying to do better in our treatment of it. Conjunctions by Black Moon Lilith in Taurus:
I've noticed a theme with Black Moon Lilith in transit - the conjunctions to other planets are suuuper important! While in Taurus, Black Moon Lilith will make 5 conjunctions. They are:
Final Notes:
The last time Black Moon Lilith was in Taurus was December 2011 to September 2012, so you can look back to that period to get an idea of how it may influence you this time around. What were you worked up about then? What causes, beliefs, or positions were your focus at that time?
Special note if you have natal Black Moon Lilith in Taurus: You're experiencing your Black Moon Lilith Return! Lilith will conjunct your natal Lilith, and bring Lilith home. You may be more aware of blocks or issues around being able to stand up, speak out, or defend yourself, and you may be required to do those things in a way that stands out for you. As you do, you can embrace more of your natural inner Lilith. The Sun rules our true selves in the natal chart, and shines a big light in transit, while the Moon rules our emotional selves in the natal chart, and brings emotional focus in transit. They make aspects to one another, and certain ones are part of the lunation cycle you've surely heard of. New moons and full moons are a part of that. But what does it mean if you were born on a new or full moon? What are new and full moons, and eclipses?
A new moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon come together at the exact same position. A full moon occurs when the transit Sun and Moon exactly oppose one another.
Eclipses occur with a new or full moon that is within 18 1/2 degrees of the Lunar Nodes (the points in the Moon's orbit where the Moon crosses the ecliptic). Solar eclipses occur with new moons and lunar eclipses occur with full moons. They occur roughly every 6 months. Born on a New Moon:
When you were born on a new moon, that puts your Sun and Moon together. First, this means your true self and emotional self are pretty aligned, and there's less of a difference between the two. Hopefully that means you're a lot less confusing than the rest of us!
Second, this is a little bit of a lucky position. You tend to have a clearer view of yourself and an easier time focusing on what you want. You may also seem more buoyant in personality since the Sun lights you up and helps you shine. You can get attention more easily than most. On the downside, there can be some challenges with controlling emotions when they spiral thanks to the Moon, and you may be moody. But on the positive side, you can also be very flexible, and go with the ebbs and flows. Born on a Full Moon:
When you were born on a full moon, this can make you a very dynamic person. Your Sun and Moon are opposing, so you can seem to volley between them. Others may find you baffling sometimes!
The hardest part is, in fact, the way others view you. People can be intimidated by you pretty easily, and they may interpret what you say or do in ways you don't intend (or never even thought of!). You're not everyone's cup of tea, and that can be really frustrating to you. The opposition can make for some self-esteem issues, and this can make you really desperate for approval, so people not getting you can get under your skin. You have to work on being comfortable with yourself and not looking externally for validation. Accept that not everyone will be a fan of yours. The ones that are will be super fans! Born on an Eclipse:
If you were born on an eclipse, well pump up that new or full moon energy times 100! Eclipse folks tend to have very strong personalities, and some can be like a savant, an innovator, a spark of life.
You can be in tune with changing times and the masses, and this can be a good thing AND a bad thing. It can be used as an asset, and many do make use of it in some way professionally. But, it can also make you sensitive to what society is going through, and you may need to learn how to guard yourself. Suggested Reading: Eclipses & Love Astrology |
