Black Moon Lilith is about to exit Gemini, where it's been since July 2021, and move into water sign Cancer. How does this impact us? What is Black Moon Lilith?
First, let's review what Black Moon Lilith is. It's the apogee, or highest point, of the Moon, or the farthest point away the Moon is from Earth in the Moon's orbit.
There are two positions for Black Moon Lilith, Mean and True/Oscillating. The movement of Lilith is really wonky, so the True/Oscillating is the exact position while the Mean is the averaged out position. You can assess both in the natal chart (thought True/Oscillating tends to have more weight for most of us). Mean Lilith is much easier to follow for transits. The standard ephemeris on astro.com includes Mean Black Moon Lilith. Black Moon Lilith shows where we speak out, stand up, and hold firm. Lilith was Adam's first wife, and she stood up for herself to Adam in the Garden of Eden, even when it meant getting thrown out! Lilith knew her power and worth, being equal to Adam. Transit Black Moon Lilith can bring this out in all of us in general with the sign it's touring and aspects it makes to the other planets (and personally in the natal house is tours for you and aspects it makes to your natal chart). Impact of Black Moon Lilith in Cancer:
Black Moon Lilith leaves outspoken Gemini, the sign it's argued to rule, and moves into quieter Cancer. Cancer is emotional energy, so Lilith in Cancer speaks up when it's emotionally inspired to do so. We may become super emotionally invested in whatever we're taking a stand with, and identify with it strongly. This has the danger of becoming subjective though, so we have to make sure we're not getting lost in the weeds and avoiding the big picture.
Cancer rules the home and family, so we may be much more concerned about issues impacting our homes and families. We may be more protective of our homes and families, while at the same time, we may find there's a lot more infighting. Broadly speaking, there may be a rise in nationalism. Cancer rules foundations, the basics, and roots, so Black Moon Lilith in Cancer might help us get back to basics with what we're passionate about taking a stand with, and we can focus on the foundation to make it stronger. There's no point in working so hard to build something up if it's foundation is so shaky it collapses on itself eventually. Aspects by Black Moon Lilith in Cancer:
I've noticed that the most important aspects that transit Lilith makes are conjunctions, and Lilith will conjunct the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Ceres in Cancer.
First up, on May 26th, Black Moon Lilith will conjunct both the Sun and Ceres. Same day! With all three at 5 degrees Cancer. This can greatly increase the nurturing, supportive energy since the Sun is generous and Ceres is nurturing. We may be extra focused on helping others in some way, and there may be something in general about helping families financially. Then Black Moon Lilith conjuncts Mercury on July 9th at 9 degrees Cancer. This can help us to speak up, be more expressive, and feel comfortable with doing so. We can make quick progress with whatever we want to have an impact on, and can work on short-term plans or come up with new ideas. Finally, Black Moon Lilith conjuncts Venus on July 27th at 11 degrees Cancer. This brings easier energy for taking a stand, and we can win people over with charm and grace. We can be more concerned about others, and can work with others to make progress with our causes. There is also a new moon on June 28th in Cancer that is conjunct transit Black Moon Lilith. This can bring great energy for speaking up about what we're focused on emotionally, and we may be extra motivated to take a stand. Final Notes:
The last time Black Moon Lilith was in Cancer was June 2013 to March 2014, so you can look back to that time to get an idea of the impact now for you. What were you focused on standing up with and speaking out with back then?
Special note if you have natal Black Moon Lilith in Cancer: You will experience your Black Moon Lilith Return, which occurs when transit Black Moon Lilith conjuncts your natal Black Moon Lilith. There can be lessons that open you up more to speaking out and standing up, and you can become more aware of what you've been held back with and need to fight against. This can be a good time to get in tune with your inner Lilith. The transit, or moving, planets chug along through the Zodiac, and they bring different energy to us all of the time, some good and some really bad. What are some of the major life transits in astrology? What are transits in astrology?
The currently moving planets in the sky are the transit planets. A natal chart is a snapshot of the transit planets and their location in the Zodiac (and other bodies) at the moment we're born and from the location we're born at.
Transits are when the transit planets impact your natal chart (and can also be used with your progressed chart, return charts, and composite charts, but that's a bit more advanced). Basically, compare the transit planets to any astrology chart. The transit planets can tour your natal houses. There are 12 houses in astrology, each ruling different parts of your life and personality. The transit planets can also make transit aspects, which means they come to specific distances from the bodies in your natal chart. There are 5 major aspects: conjunction (amplifies), sextile and trine (beneficial), and square and opposition (challenging). Each transit planet also has its own energy, and brings this energy to whatever is ruled by whatever it's touching in your natal chart. How this energy is expressed, whether beneficial or challenging, is usually determined by the aspect being made. Major Life Transits in Astrology: The Midlife Generational Aspects
There are certain aspects seen as generational aspects, and these are aspects made by the transit planet to the same planet in your natal chart by the slow-moving planets: Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. These aspects occur around the same age for everyone.
Uranus opposite Uranus, Neptune square Neptune, and Pluto square Pluto are considered the mid-life aspects, sometimes responsible for the "midlife crisis". Each can kick up internalized issues that need to be resolved, but people can do some wackadoodle things as a result. These aspects usually occur in your late 30's to early 40's. I find that the "midlife crisis" we think about stereotypically tends to happen when people experience the 3 pretty much all at once; you tend to be spared if there's a little space between them. You may have something really big to work on, or some really big experience to endure, when all 3 hit at once. Major Life Transits in Astrology: Saturn and Chiron Returns
A return occurs when a transit planet returns to the exact same location in the Zodiac it was at when you were born. The planets comes home for you, and this can often be a trigger for events and developments in your life.
The most notorious of the returns is the Saturn Return, when Saturn returns to the position it was at when you were born. This occurs between 28 and 32 the first time, and it is one of the aspects pushing you into adulthood. Saturn is the planet of lessons, so this is the time when we usually have a hard lesson to learn associated with our natal Saturn. This can be a rough period when we try to avoid it, which we usually do. But if you come out of it learning, you move forward more confident, and your second (and potential) third Saturn Return is a lot easier. Chiron is the planet of wounds and healing, and returns in your late 40's to early 50's. This usually comes after you've experienced the hard Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto transits, and if you handle them well, your Chiron Return can be a lovely time when you feel more at ease, more comfortable with yourself, and less controlled by your baggage. If you don't handle them well, then there can be potential for greater wounding, and moving into the next phase of adulthood can be extra difficult. Don't do that to yourself! Major Life Transits in Astrology: Transit Planets and the Natal Angles
There are 4 angles in astrology, the Ascendant (which connects to the 1st house), the Imum Coeli (which connects to the 4th house), the Descendant (which connects to the 7th house), and the Midheaven (which connects to the 10th house). The angles are high energy and tend to kick up activity when they're being impacted by transit planets.
Transits to the Ascendant can trigger major changes for you as a person; transits to the Imum Coeli can trigger major changes emotionally or at home; transits to the Descendant can trigger major changes to your relationships; and transits to the Midheaven can trigger major changes with your goals and direction. Transit Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto conjunct (aligned with) any of the angles tend to be major transits for you. Saturn conjunct the Midheaven is one of the biggest transits for you professionally, and only occurs 1-3 times in your adult working life. If you've done things the right way and for the right reasons, you can experience massive success. If you haven't, this can trigger big failure. Uranus conjunct the Ascendant makes you want to change a lot about you, and you may become more oddball. Uranus conjunct the Descendant can bring changes to your relationships, and the people in your life may become more unexpected. Uranus conjunct the Midheaven can bring changes to your goals and direction, sudden shake ups with what you want and where you're going. Pluto conjunct the Imum Coeli can bring out deeply-rooted issues emotionally, and there can be extra challenges with your home and family. What family is and means to you can completely transform. Pluto conjunct the Midheaven can bring an obsession with achievement and success, so you can attain great heights, but have to be careful of this coming at the expense of everything else. Major Life Transits in Astrology: Hard Pluto to the Sun and Moon
If you ask me to choose a transit in particular to mark as the biggest and most important, it would be transit Pluto conjunct, square, or opposite the natal Sun or Moon. Why?
The Sun is who you are underneath the mask, your true self, hence it being so important in astrology. Transit Pluto conjunct, square, or opposite your natal Sun can bring out major power struggles in your life, and you can encounter constant opposition. Everything can feel like a fight, and you may feel targeted everywhere you go. You have to make major transformations under this aspect, dig deep and be willing to face hard truths about yourself, and get way beyond the superficial. You can emerge as a completely different person. The Moon is what you need for emotional stability and security, so transit Pluto conjunct, square, or opposite your natal Moon can take away emotional stability and security. It can feel like everything falls apart, and you don't think you can handle it emotionally. You can get put through the emotional wringer, and feel wounded constantly. The transformation here has to happen emotionally and at your core, and you need to find healthy, positive ways to give yourself emotional support and security. No one really walks away the same after experiencing these aspects, but this is hopefully for the better. This is literally the asteroid of abundance, and in the natal chart, it can show where and how you experience abundance or have the potential for abundance in your life. In transit, Abundantia can show where and how it's being experienced at the moment. Abundantia is gearing up to move into Gemini, to stay for over 2 months. What does this mean for us? Asteroid Abundantia in Gemini 2022 Dates:
Asteroid Abundantia in Gemini 2022 General Impact:
Asteroid Abundantia in Gemini can bring abundance to the mind. We can come up with lots of ideas when we need them, and we can have plenty of communications. We may feel like talking about anything and everything. And we can benefit from using our mind, our ideas, and being open with expression. We can take more time to learn new things, and to share information we have.
Those of you who want to write or do some public speaking may have more options and opportunities to do so. It can be a great time to get messages out there, and there may be plenty. Gemini is a tech ruler, so we can also have more time to use technology. Like we don't already! Gemini is a sociable air sign, so we may have more opportunities to be sociable and engaging, whether in person or online. There can be abundant energy for connecting with others mentally, via communication, ideas, and opinions. There can be an abundance of activity in general since Gemini is a busy sign, and we may need to work on staying on track. Schedules, routines, and some sort might be of use. Gemini likes short-term projects so we may also want to break things up to be more manageable and accomplish goals quickly. Gemini rules our communities and neighbors, so we may have more to do in our communities or with our neighbors. We can be more involved, and see the benefits of doing so. Abundantia does square (hard aspect, 3 signs away) Jupiter in Pisces on May 31st, and this is interesting because Jupiter is expansion and also connects to abundance, but squares are difficult. This can show we may struggle with abundance at that time, whether it's because we're not abundant enough and lacking or because we're too abundant and overwhelmed. We need to look more internally, and try to find some balance, no matter which way we're leaning. Asteroid Abundantia won't conjunct (align with) any of the other transit planets while in Gemini, however Mercury will retrograde (appear to move backward) partially in Gemini May 10th to 22nd while Abundantia is in Gemini. This might bring out challenging energy for abundance, and our minds can be extra scattered and unfocused. We may question having enough, and feel like we're lacking in a big way. We may need to work on hidden issues, especially mentally, that have been in the way for a while and causing insecurity. April comes with potentially two new moons, one of which is a solar eclipse, and a full moon in Libra. Get ready! What is a New Moon?
A new moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact same position in the Zodiac (called a conjunction). New moons are related to beginnings, have high energy, and are enthusiastic. Solar eclipses occur with new moons.

Libra rules diplomacy, balance, and peace, so we can find ways to keep the peace diplomatically, and work to restore balance by focusing on areas we've been neglecting lately. The first eclipse of 2022 comes to us in April, and it's a solar eclipse in Taurus, This can be excellen energy for finances and resources, and we can do what we can to make improvements and pursue opportunities that benefit us.
Taurus rules confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth, so we may work on feeling more confident in what we do and who we are, and find more worth in ourselves. Grounding ourselves may help. This can help us to move forward in a calm way. We can improve stability and security with this eclipse, and this can help with confidence as well. The more we improve, the more confident we can be. The solar eclipse is sextile (positive aspect, 2 signs away) Mars in Pisces and conjunct Uranus in Taurus. Mars gives us energy and drive, along with some great instincts in Pisces, and Uranus helps us open up to doing things differently. We can set ourselves up for the future, and consider the broader impact. The solar eclipse occurs at 10 degrees 28 minutes Taurus. One way you can use it is to see when you're going to have beneficial energy coming so you can make the most of the potential energy available to you. On the way to success! What is an aspect?
There are 30 degrees in every Zodiac sign, so with 12 Zodiac signs, there are 360 degrees total. When two planets or other bodies are at specific distances from one another by degree, these are aspects. There are major aspects and minor aspects, and they're often classified as positive/beneficial or negative/challenging.
The beneficial major aspects are sextiles (60 degrees, or two signs apart) and trines (120 degrees, or four signs apart; signs of the same element trine), so positive periods for you professionally will usually come under sextiles and trines to your 6th or 10th house cusps or rulers, or to your natal Saturn or Mercury, by transit Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto. The 6th house and Mercury rule your work life, and the 10th house and Saturn rule your career. Transit Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, & Pluto to the 6th and 10th houses, Mercury, and Saturn
Jupiter aspects are more fleeting, so their impact doesn’t last as long as the others (usually 1-2 weeks). But you can get a great opportunity right around the date of an exact sextile or trine by Jupiter to the 6th or 10th house cusp or ruler, or to your natal Saturn or Mercury. It’s up to you to actually take the opportunity; the down size with Jupiter is you can feel so good that you don’t take action. Take action! Then you may be able to expand on it (base energy of Jupiter is to expand).
Positive Saturn aspects are stabilizing. Saturn aspects lasts a bit longer (a few weeks to a few months). Now, Saturn does have a reputation for making its beneficial aspect much, much quieter than it’s hard aspects, which can make them come and go without you even noticing anything. For this reason, I usually don’t put a *ton* of stock into a sextile or trine by Saturn unless it’s accompanied by another positive aspect. When it is, it helps ground the energy more and allows you to really get down to business (pun intended!). Saturn is the inverse of Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune, so it’s especially helpful for managing their energy; when coupled with Pluto, this is generally when you have the greatest discipline and self-control for progress. Uranus is the planet of change, so positive Uranus aspects bring your focus in a new direction in some way. It may be that the work or goals you want to work on or have opportunities to pursue change, or that the way you go about them becomes different in some way. You usually can’t go the traditional route when Uranus is involved. You have to look at things in new ways, from different perspectives, and with an eye toward the future. Neptune is the planetary ruler of intuition, so positive Neptune aspects can strengthen your instincts. This can allow you to get a feel for the subtle energies, the subconscious messages, and just know what’s the right choices and actions to take. And, more importantly, you can actually *trust* them! (often, we don’t trust our instincts - how many times has that bitten you?) Neptune is also super creative as ruler of the arts and imagination, so if your job or career goals are artistic/creative in nature, Neptune can bring an extra dose of inspiration. Pluto is the planet of transformation, however this tends to be on display under the challenging aspects. Sometimes it’s also required under the beneficial aspects, but it’s usually waaaaaay less problematic and more of an easy undertaking with you as a willing participant or initiator. I find more often though that the positive Pluto aspects serve to reaffirm your passion and purpose (also ruled by Pluto) for what you’re already dedicated to instead of pushing you to transform your track (which is what the hard aspects can do). Suggested Reading: Jupiter-Pluto & Wealth The transit (moving) Moon is the fastest moving of all of the planets, zipping through all 12 Zodiac signs in under 1 month. It aspects all of the other transit planets as it does, and it also does one other thing: goes void-of-course! This happens every 1-3 days. and can really hit us strongly. But what does it mean? What is the void-of-course Moon?
The Moon is void-of-course when it makes the last major aspect to another of the transit planets in the sign it's currently touring. This lasts until the Moon moves into a new Zodiac sign. It's usually a few hours, but can last a day depending on how early or late the other planets are in their respective Zodiac signs.
This is the most commonly-used definition for the void-of-course Moon; there are a few others but they're generally not used much. If you use a Moon calendar that includes void Moon periods, it’s this one that is used. In general, this is a time when energy slows and we don't want to get much done. When we do work on something, it tends to be something we've already started and need to finish up rather than something brand new. But the void-of-course Moon can operate a little differently depending on the sign it's in. The Void-of-Course Moon in the Zodiac Signs:
In Aries, we may need to give our bodies a rest, but can feel more restless than usual which can cause us to lash out. In Taurus, we can slow down considerably, and likely want more junk food and to be as lazy as possible. In Gemini, our minds may need a rest, but we're more anxious than usual, and stress can get to us.
In Cancer, we need to give ourselves an emotional break, and get some quiet time to comfort ourselves. In Leo, we want time away to be more playful, and can be extra lazy with responsibility, only wanting to enjoy ourselves. In Virgo, we can finish up the little tasks and chores we already started, but may need to schedule a break in the middle so we don't push ourselves too far and burn out. In Libra, we can crave more peace and quiet, and can find others a little draining, and need more balance and harmony. In Scorpio, we may need a break from the intense stuff we've been dealing with, but can also get stuck in darker feelings and need to work on detaching. In Sagittarius, we may want more time to ourselves, though we can push others away too much, and it can be good for reading. In Capricorn, we need to finish up little things with our goals or plans, but may be lazy with professional responsibilities and in need of a break if we’re overwhelmed. In Aquarius, we may crave more independence, and can be more rebellious if we haven’t been able to do things our own way. In Pisces, we need lots of extra rest, and some solitude to reflect and recharge. Suggested Reading: Adjusting With the 2nd Quarter Moon |
