Lilith gives you the power you need to be YOU. Lilith was the first wife of Adam in the Garden of Eden. Adam, being the “man”, tried to make Lilith be sexually submissive, but she wasn’t having that. Some say she left, some say she was exiled, some say she went stark-raving mad. Scary Lilith’s reputation seems to be undeserved thanks to the patriarchy, but does make sense when viewed through that lens (of course they thought she was evil - she stood up for herself to a man, how dare she?!). What does Lilith mean?
For women, Lilith can show you how you can be your true independent self and find that power within you as a woman. For everyone, she’s your ability to think for yourself and say it. Your inner Lilith - the person who has their own mind and own power independent of anyone else - can be a source of hidden power that helps you become a stronger version of YOU. That makes Lilith an incredibly empowering position!
In practice, I also find people with strong Lilith in their charts tend to:
What IS Lilith, technically?
Black Moon Lilith (BML) is the point in the Moon’s orbit that is farthest from Earth (the apogee). There are two versions of BML, Mean and True or Oscillating. The movement of BML is not too stable, so the Mean position averages out the movement, while the True or Oscillating position gives the actual position. You can look up both positions in your natal chart and see which position, Mean or True/Oscillating, resonates stronger for you personally.
Technically, in astrology, there are three different Liliths (just to make it confusing!): Black Moon Lilith, Dark Moon Lilith (also called Waldemath Moon), and asteroid Lilith (the only physical body of Lilith). Dark Moon Lilith tends to be a little darker while asteroid Lilith to be more symbolic of the story of Lilith. I personally mostly just use Black Moon Lilith unless one of the other two is super strong in a natal chart. How can I find my Lilith positions?
To find the locations of your Liliths for free, you can use astro.com. Click on ‘My Astro’ in the upper right, choose to use as a guest or create an account (to save your information), then input your birth data (date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth).
You should be directed to the ‘Free Horoscopes’ page; click on ‘Extended Chart Selection’, then click on Additional Objects, and then click on Lilith in the menu (gives the Mean BML position), and in the Manual entry box, type in h13 (Oscillating BML), h58 (Waldemath), and 1181 (asteroid Lilith), then generate your chart (hit the button ‘Click here to show the chart >>’). Instead, we only feel attraction for certain people, and some more than others - but why? Let astrology answer! Venus & Mars
How can you tell astrologically if you have intense attraction with someone? The first thing is usually a Venus and Mars connection, with your Venus connecting to their Mars or their Venus connecting to your Mars.
The strongest is usually a conjunction (in the same sign), then squares and oppositions (hard aspects equal more friction = more heat!). Sextiles and trines can make attraction more pleasant and easy, but it may not have the same kind of heat as the conjunctions, squares, and oppositions. The 8th House
Second, look to the 8th house. The 8th house rules sex, so when someone's planets fall in your 8th house, that can stir the intrigue. I find this is especially the case when it's Venus or Mars - and it's the strongest when it's both Venus AND Mars!
When it's Saturn, it can have the opposite effect (since Saturn restricts); when it's Uranus, it can make for an experimental connection; and when it's Neptune, the attraction can have a spiritual feeling to it. Pluto
Third, look at Pluto. Pluto is the natural ruler of the 8th house, so naturally, if someone has a planet conjunct your Pluto, this can create some major heat.
BUT there is an issue here, because Pluto does rule power struggles and control issues, so this isn't always a positive connection (it might be one of those relationships where you fight like crazy!). And Eros
Lastly, look at Eros (number 433), the asteroid of sex. If someone has a personal planet (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) or Jupiter conjunct your Eros or vice versa, that can create major attraction.
Suggested Reading: When Venus Meets Mars November’s new moon comes on the 7th at 11:01AM ET in watery Scorpio. Scorpio is the sign of intensity, and our energy can be intense, passionate, and unrelenting when we focus it on something. We can dive into whatever is of interest, get to the heart of matters, and want to get below the surface to understand and find solutions. Scorpio doesn’t settle for what’s on the surface - there’s always more than meets the eye! We can use this energy positively if we channel it productively, and we can make progress, take control, and feel more powerful as a result. This can be a big help with Venus no longer retrograde (appearing to move backward) in Scorpio (she moves into Libra October 31st). Some of the wonkiness that may have come about with Venus retrograde in Scorpio, we can work on turning around and doing better with. We can gain more insight, more clarity, and take action. Scorpio is also the sign of transformation, so we can embark on new transformations for the better, hopefully with some knowledge gained from our experiences, so we can move forward. And Scorpio rules other people’s money, so we may see some developments financially, particularly with countries or in ways that impacts a lot of people. The new moon is trine (positive aspect, 4 signs away) Neptune in Pisces. This can help us be more compassionate, understanding, sensitive, and sweet, which is energy we can use with Scorpio. We can be artistic and creative, imaginative and spiritual, and in tune with the subtle energies around us. This new moon occurs at 15 degrees 11 minutes Scorpio. The aspects to this new moon are: Conjunction: 13 degrees 11 minutes - 17 degrees 11 minutes Scorpio Sextile: 13 degrees 11 minutes - 17 degrees 11 minutes Virgo or Capricorn Square: 13 degrees 11 minutes - 17 degrees 11 minutes Leo or Aquarius Trine: 13 degrees 11 minutes - 17 degrees 11 minutes Cancer or Pisces Opposition: 13 degrees 11 minutes - 17 degrees 11 minutes Taurus November’s full moon comes on the 23rd at 12:39AM ET early in air sign Gemini. Gemini is the sign of the mind and full moons are all about emotion, so this full moon connects our hearts and minds. We can be more open with what’s on our minds and in our hearts, and find ways of expressing what we feel. We can identify more strongly with words, ours and others, and can sense the emotions of situations. We need to be mindful of the words we use as they seem to have more power. Mental energy can be strong, but it may be batted around by our feelings a little bit, so we do have to work on trying to get some control over our minds. Mental outlets can help us avoid getting into needless fights and misunderstandings. Keep busy too - you know what they say about idle hands! The ruler of Gemini, Mercury, is retrograde for this full moon, so this can increase communication issues and emotions tied into our words and expression. You can overly identify with our ideas, opinions, and plans, and need to listen a lot more than we think we do. We need to keep our minds open, and not insist on being right so much. Mercury opposes the point of this full moon on November 30th, so whatever planet or point in your chart getting hit by this full moon is also being impacted by the Mercury retrograde and may feel strong as the month of November ends. This full moon is a little wide opposing Jupiter, fresh in Sagittarius, which amplifies some of the communication and expression issues and the lack of listening and being overly defensive of our beliefs. Jupiter is expansive energy at his core, and with an opposition, that’s even more the case. We need to make sure we’re reining ourselves in a little bit so we don’t overinflate! But there’s probably going to be a lot of bravado, braggadociousness, and empty promises. Side note: Also watch for perhaps some legal news or a big travel problem (ruled by Jupiter/Sagittarius). This full moon occurs at 0 degrees 52 minutes Gemini. The aspects to this full moon are: Conjunction: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 52 minutes Gemini Sextile: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 52 minutes Aries or Leo Square: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 52 minutes Virgo or Pisces Trine: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 52 minutes Libra or Aquarius Opposition: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 52 minutes Sagittarius Since this full moon is so early in Gemini, you may also feel aspects made out of sign, which would be: ConjunctIon: 28 degrees 52 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Taurus Sextile: 28 degrees 52 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Cancer or Pisces Square: 28 degrees 52 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Leo or Aquarius Trine: 28 degrees 52 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Virgo or Capricorn Opposition: 28 degrees 52 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Scorpio Suggested Reading: The New & Full Moons page for general interpretations The basics: A retrograde occurs when a planet appears to be moving backwards from our vantage point here on Earth. It isn't actually moving backwards, it just appears that way. Mercury turns retrograde most often, about 3-4 times per year, and lasts for several weeks. When a planet retrogrades, what that planet rules tends to be thrown off, along with what the sign it's retrograding in rules. With Mercury retrograde, we experience a shadow and a storm. The shadow period starts when Mercury first hits the point in the Zodiac it will turn direct at, and ends when it last hits the point in the Zodiac it will turn retrograde at. Most people don't feel the effects of Mercury retrograde until it enters the storm period though. The storm period of Mercury retrograde is when Mercury is moving at its slowest, less than 40 minutes per day. Mercury is a fast-moving planet and hates it when he's moving slowly. There's usually two storm periods, one around the time Mercury turns retrograde, and one around when it turns direct. This Mercury retrograde begins on November 16th at 8:33PM ET and ends on December 6th at 4:22PM ET. The shadow period is October 28th - December 24th. The first storm period is November 11th - 21st, and second storm period is December 3rd - 11th. The final round of Mercury retrograde for 2018 comes upon us in November, starting in Sagittarius. Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius can make us prone to talking big, but it may just be hot air, empty words, and it’s not backed up with action. We can brag, be boisterous, and we don’t take seriously how much what we’re saying actually impacts other people, so we need to be more mindful of that. Sagittarius rules the law, so we could see some important legal rulings, decisions, and matters involving the law or legal system come to the forefront. We may be more concerned with reversals, going back, or try to rectify things from the past. Long-distance travel comes under the domain of Sagittarius, and we may experience some difficulties with travel (could be technical/electronic or something involving the weather). We may think more about the way things impact the world as a whole instead, the big picture, but we need to make sure we’re not ignoring the important details. Sagittarius rules our beliefs, so we may be more defensive over what we believe passionately. Some may try to force their beliefs on others, but this doesn’t usually work out well. Others may question their beliefs, and wonder if they’ve been following false idols all along. Mercury retrograde doesn’t occur entirely in Sagittarius though, as he’ll go back to watery Scorpio on December 1st (6:12AM ET) for the last few days of his retrograde. It’s only a few days, but likely to still have an impact! We can become a bit obsessive with Scorpio, totally wrapped up in something, but this can cause us to lose objectivity. We may need to take a step back, but can find that hard to do. Scorpio is quite passionate energy, so we need to try and use that as best as we can. We’re likely unable to squash the energy, so try funnelling it somewhere it can be put to good use. Otherwise, extreme emotions can prevail, and here come the outbursts and such. Scorpio is the darkest sign, ruling what is held deep inside, our inner demons and darkest selves and secrets, so something of that nature can come out, be made aware, and we may have to face something that we don’t really want to, but have to. Scorpio wants us to face these things so we can learn, evolve, and be the phoenix rising from the ashes. Scorpio loves a good transformation, so that can be a good way to use this period. Transform for the better. We all can do that! Scorpio also governs other people’s money (taxes, debts, loans, inheritances, joint finances), so that may be more difficult or there can be some developments in the world; and Scorpio governs sex, so we may focus on sex/sexuality in some way. Mercury will be anaretic, at the 29th degree, when he goes back into Scorpio December 1st - 2nd. The anaretic degree is a point of crisis energy, and retrograde planets crossing over this degree tend to stimulate some developments, challenges, important issues, and the like. There could be something that we’re not aware of and is deeply-held that becomes exposed, something dark that gets some light, a sex scandal, or something really kind of dark and cruel that occurs. Focus on the bad guys of the world? The Moon will be in the same sign Mercury will be retrograde in December 3rd (2:55PM ET) - 5th (9:49PM ET) in Scorpio. This can make the Scorpio energy stronger, and we can be even more emotional, even more extreme, and have extra passion and intensity. Try to get a grip on the energy and channel it into something productive to use the energy up and avoid the challenges. Mercury retrograde doesn’t end making any aspects, thankfully, but it does start square (hard aspect) Neptune in Pisces, who will be ending his own retrograde November 24th at 13 degrees Pisces. This can make us feel like we’re in a fog at the start of the retrograde, and it may be difficult to figure out what’s real and what isn’t. We may lack clarity that we need, we may feel vulnerable and deceived. The world may need a major dose of compassion! We can get lost in daydreams and fantasies, and need to fight to maintain a grip on reality. We could see something hidden, some secret that comes out with this retrograde. The Moon will be in the signs Mercury naturally rules November 22nd (11:10PM ET) - 25th (1:38AM ET) in Gemini, and November 29th (6:08AM ET) - December 1st (9:49AM ET) in Virgo. The time in Virgo may be more subtle, and give us feelings of feeling off and needing to focus more on daily life, work, productivity, and health. The time in Gemini may be stronger since we’ll have a full moon in Gemini on November 23rd; the full moon doesn’t aspect the Mercury retrograde, but emotions can run high, and our words can drip with emotion. It can be hard to avoid saying what you mean, even if what you mean is mean. So we definitely need to exercise more caution with words. Mercury retrograde will be at a critical degree (4 degrees Sagittarius) November 27th - 28th, and this may bring some difficult energy, and we may be extra defensive, blow extra hot air, and talk the talk but don’t walk the way. Be mindful of what you say, how you say it, and if you really mean it or not. This Mercury retrograde will make 3 major aspects during the retrograde. He'll square (hard aspect) Mars on November 26th (3:06AM ET) - lots of anger, frustration, fights/misunderstandings, and we need to keep cooler heads to prevail, or can get into trouble. Mercury will also conjunct (align with) Jupiter on November 27th (5:27PM ET), and we may be lazy, prone to excess, and indulgent, and need to get moving. Jupiter energy is expansive, so we can feel like however things are get expanded with this aspect. Jupiter is Mr. Happy, so try to use that expansive energy positively. Mercury will conjunct the Sun on November 27th as well (4:15AM ET), called the inferior conjunction, and this can usually be a positive aspect providing an opportunity to start something. That may especially be true with Mercury conjunct Jupiter that day too. The retrograde begins at 13 degrees Sagittarius, so those of you Sagittarians born December 2nd - 8th can feel the start of this retrograde most. The retrograde ends at 27 degrees Scorpio, so those of your Scorpions born after November 17th can feel the end of the retrograde most. For the rest of you, check the house(s) Mercury will be retrograding in of your own natal chart, and any aspects Mercury will make during its retrograde to your natal planets, to fully understand how it will impact you personally. If you have Mercury retrograde in your natal or progressed chart, you may not feel the worst of this. Those individuals generally don't experience the difficulties of the retrograde because it feels more natural to them. Of course, chances are everyone else around them doesn't have the same aspect, so they can still experience difficulties brought on by others. Suggested Reading: The Mercury, Venus and Mars Retrogrades page for general interpretations Jupiter is on the move! Jupiter moves into his home sign, Sagittarius, on November 8th 2018 (7:38AM ET) until December 2nd 2019 (1:19PM ET). Since Sagittarius is the sign Jupiter naturally rules, he’s feeling at home with his own energy, and so can we! We can feel more comfortable with expansion, with exploration, with being adventurous and daring, and with taking changes. Sagittarius is a fire sign, full of energy, enthusiasm, and optimism, and we can focus more on the positives in life. We can push for what we want, and believe in our abilities. We can take chances if we think something is possible, even if it’s a big idea. Big ideas can swirl around for us all, and we want to think bigger and brighter. With Jupiter leaving Scorpio and moving into Sagittarius, Scorpio is a serious sign, focused on serious matters and taking everything seriously. Sagittarius is the opposite - light, optimistic, and always up for a good time! So we can be a lot more positive and want to focus on finding the silver lining in every cloud. This positive outlook can help open up more doors and inspire us to move onward. Sagittarius is one of the rulers of the mind, governing the “higher” mind, and more advanced, deeper learning, so we can focus more on expanding our minds through learning new things. But it’s not just book learning as we place more value in the wisdom gained from life experience, so we can be more open to life experiences that may not lead to any kind of success, but give us knowledge that we wouldn’t gain otherwise. The law is also ruled by Sagittarius, so there may be some important rulers that are made around the work, important legal developments of some kind, or a bigger spotlight is put on judicial branches of governments around the world. There may be some legal issues that get better thanks to happy Jupiter, and there may be some people in some major legal jeopardy that gets a lot worse fast. Sagittarius also rules travel, of the long-distance sort (and rules flight), so we may be on the move more, going from this place to that place (being a mutable fire sign, Sagittarius doesn’t like being in one place for too long!). We can open up to going to areas we’ve never been to before, and part of our new knowledge can come from gaining more understanding of the way other people live, love, and believe. Sagittarius is one of the rulers of beliefs, and this can tie in to cultural beliefs, political beliefs, and religious beliefs, so we may be more honed in on them. But we can also get a little preachy, bombastic and braggadocious, so we have to be careful we’re not just letting out a lot of hot air. Actions speak louder than words! Wherever Jupiter in Sagittarius is touring in your chart, you can focus on expansion, exploration, and experience. It can feel like you just have to expand or you’ll explode - which is kind of expansion in it’s own way! (LOL!) The last time Jupiter was in Sagittarius was November 2006 to December 2007, so you can take a look back at what occurred for you during that period and get some ideas of what Jupiter in Sagittarius may have in store for you. While Jupiter is at home in Sagittarius, Neptune is at home in Pisces and Saturn is at home in Capricorn. Three of the slow-movers will be in their home signs, so we may be feeling more at ease with their natural energies and better able to use them during this period. Probably helpful for preparation of the Capricorn stellium that ends the decade! This transit kicks off with some trying energy though, because 8 days after Jupiter enters Sagittarius, Mercury will turn retrograde in Sagittarius (November 16th - December 1st). This will be the only retrograde in Sagittarius during this period, but it’s right at the start, so all of the nice energy may not feel like it’s kicking in right away at all! Gotta watch for extra self-righteousness, empty promises, legal or travel problems, and not being realistic. The retrograde ends on December 6th, and the next day, on December 7th, a new moon occurs in Sagittarius that helps us try to put everything back together again and get on some of that positive ground. We’re also coming out of Jupiter in Scorpio while Venus is retrograde in Scorpio (October 5th - 31st), so this period of October and November isn’t too great for Jupiter energy! The only hard aspect that Jupiter will make while touring Sagittarius is a square to Neptune in Pisces. This goes exact January 13th, June 16th, and September 21st 2019, with Neptune turning retrograde June 21st closely square (so that June time is when this aspect can be felt strongest). We’ll have to work harder at seeing reality and not getting caught up in delusions of grandeur, being stuck in our beliefs or falling prey to people who talk a good game but are covering up some serious evil mojo. We’ll need to give our imaginations the space to roam and have positive creative outlets to channel the energy, as well as get in tune with our subconscious minds and strengthen intuition so we can trust our inner guide. Outside of aspect and once we’re out of Mercury retrograde, this transit is a fairly easy one! I think we all need it because this fixed energy this year was pretty brutal for most people. Come on Sagittarius! Suggested Reading: The Transit Jupiter page for general interpretations |
