There's always a lot of talk about Pluto, Uranus, Saturn, even Jupiter, but usually a lot less talk about transit Neptune. Oddly, I keep getting asked about the impact of transit Neptune conjunct a personal planet, so I thought I'd write an article about it. The energy of Neptune in transit is "dissolving", so when transit Neptune is conjunct any planet or point in our chart, we tend to see something fade away from our lives linked to it. It can be literal, but often it's in an abstract, figurative, or metaphorical way. Also note, the personal planets are technically Mercury, Venus, and Mars, but I'm also including the Sun and Moon (they're often included as personal planets but are technically luminaries - just so ya know!). Transit Neptune Conjunct the Sun or Moon
Neptune conjunct the natal Sun or Moon can bring about an increase in intuition and allow us to tap into the intuitive part of ourselves. It can be a spiritual period as well, and we can focus more on connecting to our spiritual selves (not necessarily in a religious way, more in a mystical way). Imagination, compassion, and empathy surges as well.
The downside is we're more vulnerable to deception, more easily led astray, and other people can see us how they want to see us. With Neptune, there's always a battle with reality, which is most a problem with the Sun and Moon, and this usually comes out with the house placement and house rulership of the planet. Transit Neptune Conjunct Mercury
Neptune conjunct Mercury takes aim at your mind, and can be an incredible time for imagination. If you're any kind of writer, speaker, or teacher, you can become much more captivating, charismatic, and everyone can be attracted to your way of communicating (there's just something in the way they speak/write . . .).
You can get lost in daydreams and fantasies, and dream the day away quite easily, so focus usually isn't great with Neptune conjunct Mercury. With this aspect, you have to take care about becoming vulnerable to the beautiful words of others, easily falling for the things people say and not seeing what it is they really mean. Transit Neptune Conjunct Venus
Neptune conjunct Venus focuses on your relationships, and this is one of those aspects where you can either meet your soul mate or fall for the Devil in disguise. Unfortunately, it's most often the latter! We want to see the best in others, so this can be an excellent time for doing work that helps others (let out your humanitarian side and be super compassionate).
But that means we can also be taken advantage of by people we think we love and we think love us, and that leaves us vulnerable to bad people who will leave ugly scars when it's over. It's vital that you work on trying to be as realistic as possible with the people in your life. Transit Neptune Conjunct Mars
Neptune conjunct Mars does work on your energy, drive, and ability to take action. What Neptune conjunct Mars is great for is taking action (Mars) with your dreams (Neptune). The problem? Neptune isn't really active, more like it ebbs and flows and gets moved by the wind, the water, the air, the smoke.
Mars, on the other hand, wants to jump into things and be the pioneer. Neptune can take away the ability for you to figure out what the heck you should be taking action with, and you may find that when you do take action, you don't know what to do next, or you realize you didn't think this through (_it was all too hazy_) and it doesn't go the way you thought it would. This tends to play out in the areas of life ruled by the house Mars is located and rules. It's always about trying to see reality with Neptune, trying to manage the fantasy, the haziness, the fog that sets in. Grounding yourself can be super important and helpful with this, but often, once you're too far gone, you've gotta just wait until it's over, and hope there's not too much of a mess! Jupiter is known as the happy planet, the beneficial planet, the planet of luck and optimism and all of that good stuff. At his core, Jupiter is the planet of expansion. He expands whatever he touches. While he does want to be positive, that doesn't always mean that the expansion that occurs will be positive. He can expand whatever is there, whatever is happening, so he may expand on the good, or he may expand on the bad. What does transit Jupiter expand?
The house that transit (moving) Jupiter is touring in your natal chart gets a big dose of his expansive energy. You can find new opportunities, open up to new possibilities, and open your mind and world. But you can also see that when things go wrong, they get worse in a hurry, and if things aren't going well when Jupiter enters the house and you're not doing anything to right the ship, he can make it much worse.
When transit Jupiter is aspecting a natal planet or house cusp at a critical or anaretic degree, this can expand the critical energy associated with that planet, and the difficulties you may normally contend with regarding that planet can become more pronounced. It can be in your face. But since Jupiter is the happy, lucky planet, if you work on doing things right and making things better, he'll help you do that. When transit Jupiter is making a hard aspect - a square or opposition in his case - this can expand on the difficult energy of Jupiter. There can be an excess of everything, particularly laziness and indulgence, and you can go to extremes and not really feel it. It doesn't seem so bad to you, because Jupiter makes you feel so good even when things aren't going well sometimes. But again, because Jupiter is the happy planet, you can work with the squares and oppositions so they're not as difficult as with other transit planets. Conjunctions by Jupiter are generally not seen as hard aspects, but they can be incredibly expansive. It's usually in a good way, but it can be in a difficult way too. In your natal chart, the house and sign location of your natal Jupiter gets this expansive energy throughout your life, and it can expand on the good or expand on the difficulties you experience with the areas of life ruled by the house and sign. You can turn things around more quickly, but you may slip into quicksand more easily as well. When transit Jupiter is retrograde, expansion may be more limited, and we can all feel more limited with the opportunities we have for expansion, or lack motivation and drive to find them. When transit Jupiter is at a critical degree, we can also struggle with expansion, and may go too far or not far enough. So remember expansion when assessing the impact of Jupiter in your life, and focus on doing things right so that even if things are difficult, he can help you to make it better. Aries October 2017 Monthly Horoscope Venus enters air sign Libra, the sign opposite yours, on October 14th, and you can enjoy spending more time with the people in your life, the people you care about, and be more committed to them. You can be more commitment-minded, and in love, you can be more supportive. If single, you can focus on someone you feel is an equal, and if attached, you can work to grow closer with your partner. Your ruler, Mars, joins Venus in Libra on October 22nd, and you can have more energy and drive when you have a partner. You can do more with someone by your side than you can do alone, and you can make your relationships more of a priority. You can also strive to be more fair-minded and compromising, and can meet people in the middle. This can be a good time to commit to someone, and you can keep the peace in relationships. The full moon for October occurs on the 5th at 2:40PM ET in fiery Aries. With Aries, we can make progress with the things we've done well and right by, and this can make us more enthusiastic and energized by what we're doing. We can also experience setbacks and delays if we need to adjust, and this can make us defensive and need to take a step back. We can be a lot more impulsive and impatient with an Aries full moon, and we want everything and we want it right now. We need to take it down a notch and channel some of our excess energy and frustrations into something positive, or at least have a healthy outlet. It can be a good time to keep busy, especially physically, though it can also be a time of accidents and injuries. The full moon opposes Mercury in airy Libra, so we can have problems with communication, get into misunderstandings and fights, and need to do more listening and not just hearing. My way or the highway won't work, and compromise is needed. There can also be elevated accident energy, so no texting while driving! The full moon occurs at 12 degrees 42 minutes Aries. The aspects for this full moon are: Conjunction: 10 degrees 42 minutes - 14 degrees 42 minutes Aries Sextile: 10 degrees 42 minutes - 14 degrees 42 minutes Gemini or Aquarius Square: 10 degrees 42 minutes - 14 degrees 42 minutes Cancer or Capricorn Trine: 10 degrees 42 minutes - 14 degrees 42 minutes Leo or Sagittarius Opposition: 10 degrees 42 minutes - 14 degrees 42 minutes Libra October's new moon occurs on the 19th at 3:12PM ET in fair-minded Libra, and we can focus on trying to find some peace and strike a balance. We can meet in the middle and make compromises that will give everyone a little win and keep us from going over the edge. It's a time to come together and be respectful. Libra is the sign of relationships, so we can focus more on the people in our lives, enter into new relationships and partnerships, and find more value in committed relationships of all kinds. We can be more supportive of the people we care about, show more commitment, and work on balancing our wants and needs with the wants and needs of others. The new moon opposes rebellious Uranus in Aries, so unfortunately, it's not all diplomacy and peace with this new moon. There can be some unrest, some feelings of uneasiness and impulsiveness, and we can push and pull and bend and break if we feel we're being treated unfairly. We want our individuality and independence to be respected. The new and full moons for this month are a bit problematic with these aspects, and I'm a little worried about violence. Everyone, take some deep breaths! The new moon occurs at 26 degrees 35 minutes Libra. The aspects for this new moon are: Conjunction: 24 degrees 35 minutes - 28 degrees 35 minutes Libra Sextile: 24 degrees 35 minutes - 28 degrees 35 minutes Leo or Sagittarius Square: 24 degrees 35 minutes - 28 degrees 35 minutes Cancer or Capricorn Trine: 24 degrees 35 minutes - 28 degrees 35 minutes Gemini or Aquarius Opposition: 24 degrees 35 minutes - 28 degrees 35 minutes Aries Suggested Reading: The New & Full Moons page for general interpretations Jupiter is going to leave air sign Libra on October 10th 2017 at at 9:19AM ET, entering water sign Scorpio until November 8th 2018 (7:38AM ET). Jupiter has been in Libra for the last year, and it's been a challenging one for the world, to say the least, as we went from a mutable t-square with Jupiter in Virgo to a cardinal t-square with Jupiter in Libra. Once Jupiter enters Scorpio, we finally get a break from t-square mayhem! That alone is something to cheer about after the last 2 years. With Jupiter in Scorpio, we can take on a more serious focus, and deal with more serious aspects of life, but we can handle it better and work to not get stuck in pessimism and depression. Jupiter rules optimism and is the happy planet, while Scorpio rules the darkness and seriousness of life. They can be opposite ends of the spectrum, but together, they can combine to help us traverse the muddy waters without getting so dirty, or at least learning to play in the mud. While Libra rules relationships in general, Scorpio rules intimacy, so Jupiter in Scorpio can help us work on forging stronger emotional bonds with the people we care about. We can be more comfortable with intimacy, and have less patience for superficial connections. We want our connections to have depth and meaning, to be solid and strong. Issues or blocks with intimacy can be worked on with Jupiter in Scorpio, and we can working on sharing emotionally. Sharing in general can be worked on too. With Scorpio ruling sexuality, we may also see more open views on sex and sexuality, what sexuality is and means to us as individuals and societies, what we enjoy and don't, what we accept and won't. We may see more work being done around the world to gain more rights for the LGBTQ community. Scorpio energy can be obsessive and researching, so the world can get really wrapped up in whatever stirs its interest with Jupiter in Scorpio. We can focus on something until we get to the heart of the matter, understand everything there is, and have exhausted every resource. It can be good for learning and achieving and progress, but we may need to work on taking a step back sometimes. Scorpio is also ruler of "other people's money" - taxes, loans, debts, inheritances, joint finances, business finances, stocks, etc., so Jupiter in Scorpio may end up being a great time for the world financially. We may see some countries finally turn things around or get the help they need, some companies hitting new highs, and hopefully get some economic boosts. On a personal level, you can see opportunities for shared prosperity in the areas of life ruled by the house Jupiter in Scorpio will be touring. The last time Jupiter was in Scorpio was October 2005 to November 2006, so look back at what occurred in your life during that period to get an idea of what this next transit may have in store for you. Early on, we'll get a surge of good energy with Jupiter in Scorpio as Mars will be in Scorpio December 9th 2017 - January 26th 2018. Mars did not tour Libra while Jupiter was in Libra, and in fact, the last time they hooked up was late-September to mid-November of 2015, and that was back in Virgo (and had the nasty mutable t-square involved). No t-square time, though we do have Mercury retrograde to deal with for part of it (December 3rd - 22nd). That retrograde is entirely in Sagittarius though, not in Scorpio, and may seem more linked to Saturn than Jupiter, but once we get out of it, we're hitting the ground running and starting 2018 with some great energy. The first month of 2018 may be a big one! Focus on the areas of life ruled by the house Jupiter and Mars in Scorpio will be in for you during that time, and start working on plans now. Scorpio is unrelenting and focused, so this may be excellent for working on something that's difficult and trying as we've got the will to push through and make it work. It's not all sunshine and roses, of course. We do have a t-square for part of the time Jupiter is in Scorpio, a fixed t-square with Jupiter in Scorpio opposite Uranus in Taurus (Uranus begins to enter Taurus in 2018), and Mars in Aquarius mid-May to mid-August and mid-September to early November. The main time to focus on is when Mars is retrograde in Aquarius June 26th - August 12th. That may be the time to watch for some major fixed drama energy, and we're super stuck in some stubborn energy. The missing sign will be Leo, so we'll need to work on being more generous and playful, loving and light-hearted, fun and joyful. Sourpusses will probably be swarming! Mercury will retrograde in Leo for part of the time, July 26th until Mars goes into Capricorn in retrograde on August 12th, and that window can either be super crazy unbelievably STUCK, STUBBORN, IMMOVABLE energy, or we can get a break from everything and feel a little calmer. Let's hope for the latter! Venus is also going to partially retrograde in Scorpio in 2018 while Jupiter is in Scorpio, October 5th - 31st, and this can be a period where we're having a hard time coming together and being intimate, sharing and opening up emotionally, and can be a little too angry and rage-y in love and relationships. We have to work harder to get along, and not be so all-or-nothing. Resist the urge to dominate, and work to find the middle ground. Jupiter will retrograde in Scorpio March 9th - July 10th, starting at 23 degrees Scorpio and ending at 13 degrees Scorpio. When Jupiter is retrograde, the time for pursuing opportunities may slow, and we can feel frustrated sometimes at the lack of them, but we can work on being more reflective, and using the Scorpio energy positively by deep-diving into ourselves. Those of you who are a Scorpio Sun, Moon, Rising, or Midheaven can have the best experience with Jupiter in Scorpio as this energy funnels into your being and life. Make the most of it! For everyone else, look at the house(s) Jupiter will tour while in Scorpio in your chart, and if you have an Scorpio planets, they can get some of Jupiter's expansive energy. Special note for Millennials: Most of you have natal Pluto in Scorpio, so transit Jupiter in Scorpio will conjunct your Pluto. Enjoy a surge in personal power and growth! So Jupiter in Scorpio plays a little bit better than Jupiter in Libra and Virgo played, and has some very nice spots to look forward to. Just be weary of midyear 2018!
