This Christmas-y character analysis is George Bailey, main character of the famous Christmas movie, It’s a Wonderful Life. Do you watch it when they play it this time of year? These character analysis articles explore what I think a fictional character's natal chart would look like. They're meant to help you get a better understanding of astrological positions like this. Let's dive in! George Bailey's Saturn & Moon
Since George ends up all depressed and wishing he hadn’t been born, he’s very dark-side there, so I immediately thought this is a guy who has Saturn in his 1st house. Why? No matter how happy-go-lucky the rest of your chart may be, Saturn in the 1st house will tone it down in a big way.
Saturn is also the planet ruling depression, which one could say George has. At the very least, he has depressive thinking, which would be very Saturn. George takes on too much responsibility as well, which is very Saturnian (Saturn rules responsibility). I think his Moon would be conjunct Saturn, adding to it all, and to his difficulty with dealing emotionally. The Moon rules your emotions, and Saturn is restrictive in nature. Anything conjunct (aligned with) Saturn has difficulty expressing its energy. This means Moon conjunct Saturn brings difficulty with managing emotions. Natives often seem like people who don't show much emotion, but are actually holding a lot inside. George Bailey's Rising, Moon, and Saturn: Virgo
I like Virgo for George’s rising, Moon, and Saturn. Virgo is a sign of service, and you serve others and their needs more than your own. Virgo is also the sign of the perfectionist, and can be really hard on itself, demanding more than it can realistically handle.
This would make a lot of sense for George's Moon and Saturn. As for the Rising, Virgo Rising tends to come across as quiet, not so in your face, and subdued. George Bailey's Sun, Mercury, & Venus in Pisces
This one is easy, Pisces and the 7th house. George is super compassionate and caring for others, putting them first and way ahead of himself. This is very Pisces + 7th house (and the reversed, Libra + 12th house). The 7th house rules other people in your life, and Pisces is a sacrificing, compassionate sign who wants to help everyone.
Plus he’s actually very sensitive and vulnerable, which is the Pisces influence. It would also make this trio opposite his Saturn, adding to his difficulty with taking on too much and weighing himself down with worry. Saturn can be a big challenge and incredibly influential when aspecting a lot of your natal chart! George Bailey's Mars in Sagittarius
I like Mars in Sagittarius and the 4th house for George. The 4th house is the house of home and family, which is very important for George. Mars in Sagittarius tends to be more optimistic, but it would be square his rising, Saturn, Sun, Mercury, and Venus, and the square is a hard aspect, showing it’s hard for him to really assert himself and take control.
Plus, Mars is ruler of injury and the head, square the Sun, who is ruler of the self, and Venus, who is ruler of the senses, and Mercury, who would be ruler of his Virgo 1st house, would equal the hearing loss he experiences when young, along with Saturn, planet of restriction, opposite his Sun, Venus, and 1st house ruler. It isn't actually moving backwards, it just appears that way. Mercury turns retrograde most often because it's nearest to us, about 3-4 times per year, and lasts for several weeks. When a planet retrogrades, what that planet rules tends to be thrown off, along with what the sign it's retrograding in rules. With Mercury retrograde, we experience a shadow and a storm. The shadow period starts when Mercury first hits the point in the zodiac it will turn direct at, and ends when it last hits the point in the zodiac it will turn retrograde at. Most people don't feel the effects of Mercury retrograde until it enters the storm period though. The storm period of Mercury retrograde is when Mercury is moving at its slowest, less than 40 minutes per day. Mercury is a fast-moving planet and hates it when he's moving slowly. There's usually two storm periods, one around the time Mercury turns retrograde, and one around when it turns direct. The shadow of this Mercury retrograde begins January 5th and ends March 3rd. The exact retrograde begins January 21st at 10:54AM ET and ends February 11th at 9:57AM ET. The first storm period is January 18th - 25th, and the second storm period is February 7th - 18th. This Mercury retrograde occurs entirely in air sign Aquarius, which rules friendships, groups, charity, humanitarianism, the future, the internet, and our hopes, dreams, and wishes for our lives. So all of that is screwed! LOL We can be too optimistic or pessimistic, looking toward the future and thinking everything is going to go to hell in a handbasket, or being delusional and thinking things will work out fine when they're falling apart right in front of us. We can find it hard to hope, to dream, and second-guess the dreams we have for ourselves, our communities, our countries. This is made worse by the fact that we're bickering with the people that are supposed to be our friends, having a hard time getting along with anyone, even pretending to. We can see countries back at war with one another again that had called a truce, or countries at war take a step back for a moment. Groups can be a problem, those we belong to, and those that congregate for one reason or another. Whenever we see problems come about, it may stem from a group more often than not. Crowds = problem. We have a hard time reaching out and helping the world on a grand scale, not wanting to or experiencing complications, or we have to help in ways that we did before and didn't think we'd have to again. We have a hard time grasping things on a large scale, and looking at the world with more objective eyes. And the internet, the thing that our whole world hinges on now. We have more problems accessing it, we hear/see more about it being restricted in some places or to some people, it's used against people/countries, or some sort of internet scandal breaks out. No matter what, back up your important files, and wipe out anything incriminating! The Mercury retrogrades this year will occur in the air signs, which are social signs, so we can find that in general, we have a harder time getting along, being sociable, and relating to one another. These are also the signs of the mind, so Mercury retrograde will screw up our communications even more this year. This Mercury retrograde makes two positive major aspects while in retrograde, a sextile to transit Uranus on January 28th, and a sextile to transit Saturn on February 5th. We can adjust easier to the changes being made with Uranus, and try to wrangle them, getting them under control with Saturn. One thing to note is that the end of this Mercury retrograde will be square (hard aspect) the solar eclipse of October 23rd 2014, so we could see some difficulties associated with things that came about from that eclipse at the end of the retrograde. The turn retrograde begins at 17 degrees Aquarius, so those of you Aquarians born February 6th - 8th may feel the turn retrograde most. The turn direct occurs at 1 degree Aquarius, so those of you Aquarians born January 23rd and earlier may feel the turn direct most. For the rest of you, check the house(s) Mercury will be retrograding in of your own natal chart, and any aspects Mercury will make during its retrograde to your natal planets, to fully understand how it will impact you personally. If you have Mercury retrograde in your natal or progressed chart, you may not feel the worst of this. Those individuals generally don't experience the difficulties of the retrograde because it feels more natural to them. Of course, chances are everyone else around them doesn't have the same aspect, so they can still experience difficulties brought on by others. ARIES DECEMBER 2014 It’s a busy month of December! Mars, your ruler, enters air sign Aquarius on December 4th, and you have more mental energy now, and think long and hard about things. You can study something, and you’ll uncover everything you can, becoming an expert on it. You have energy when you work toward your future, and the dreams that you have. You can spend a lot of time thinking about your dreams, and what you hope to achieve in your life. You can spend more time with friends, and want to make new friends. You want to be surrounded by people who are of the same mind as you, want the same things, have the same beliefs. You enjoy spending time in groups, and you can do good things in a group, acting as the leader. General horoscopes are always meant for entertainment purposes only. For a more accurate view, read your Sun sign, Rising sign, and Moon sign.
Aries You feel adventurous in love as the month of December begins, and don’t want to take it too seriously or be tied down to anyone or anything. You’d rather have fun and keep things casual. Midmonth, you take things more seriously, but you may be so caught up in other things (especially work) that love takes a backseat and isn’t a priority. You have more love for your career than anything or anyone else, and you’re less affectionate and loving with those around you. General horoscopes are always meant for entertainment purposes only. For a more accurate view, read your Sun sign, Rising sign, and Moon sign.
Aries During the second half of December, you’re completely focused on a goal or your career. You want to get ahead in your life, get closer to where you want to be, and feel like you’re doing something, accomplishing something, making a mark. You’ll put in the hours and do what it takes work-wise, and you have a practical outlook which helps you to create realistic plans of action. The new moon on the 21st in your career sector helps push things forward even further. There are many fun holiday characters, and in this article, we'll explore one of them - Frosty the Snowman! The snowman who comes to life with eyes of coal and always screams, "Happy birthday!" (that kind of sounds like a horror movie instead of a kiddie Christmas movie). I'll go into what I think Frosty the Snowman's natal chart would look like. In these character analysis posts, I review what fictional characters might have in their natal charts, and this can help you with learning astrology, Let's dig in! Frosty's Sun, Mercury, and Venus
I'd say Frosty is a Sagittarius Sun, Mercury, and Venus, ever the optimist, always happy and friendly and fun. Sagittarius is the happy, optimistic Zodiac sign, and Frosty is pretty positive! Plus, he was born in December, the time of Sagittarius.
I like the 3 as a stellium because it would increase his optimism, make him have an easier time getting along with others, and with relating and expressing himself. Stelliums are when you have 3 or more planets together in one sign, and they are highly concentrated energy that greatly increases the sign (and house) location. I’d also pick some hard aspects to his Mercury by the outer planets to make his memory worse. Mercury rules the mind, so hard aspects by the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) would help explain that. Frosty's Moon: Gemini
Frosty has Moon in Gemini for sure! Frosty has a terrible memory, which is very Gemini (as a scattered air and mutable sign). He's sociable, engaging, and active.
Frosty is also good with young people, and Gemini is the sign ruling young people. Frosty's Mars: Leo
I like Leo for Frosty’s Mars as he’s always up for fun, always wanting to have a good time, always saying, “Happy birthday!” Leo is the sign that rules fun and having a good time, and Mars is the planet of energy and drive, so he'd be driven to have lots of fun.
It would make his Mars trine his Sun, Mercury, and Venus, and sextile his Moon, which are easy, beneficial aspects. Frosty's Rising Sign
A little torn here between Leo or Aquarius.
Leo rising would put his Mars in the 1st house of the self, increasing his optimism, but I’m not sure he has quite the energy required for a Mars 1st house (which can be super high). His Sun-Mercury-Venus would be in the 5th house of fun and kids, and his Moon would be in the 11th house of friends, and those do make sense. Aquarius rising would put his Mars in his 7th house, ruler of relationships and other people, and Frosty is dedicated to the kids. His Sun-Mercury-Venus would be in the 11th house of friendships, and his Moon would be in the 9th house, very optimistic and bright-side (naturally connects to Sagittarius). So I’m inclined to go with Aquarius Rising. Final Note: Pluto
Frosty is reborn over and over again, which is very Pluto, so I’d say he has a prominent Pluto in his chart, perhaps on a house cusp, or conjunct a personal planet (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars).
Pluto is the planet of transformation and rules rebirth, and when it's strong in the natal chart, that often shows experiencing one or many transformations/rebirths (as he does). So that's Frosty! Suggested Reading: Character Analysis: Astrology of the Grinch |
