Some of us are old school. We like old books and movies and television shows, we collect old gadgets and love antique stores, we like retro fashion and hair styles. Whether we’re straight out of the 1920’s or 1990’s, we love a throwback. So what brings this out astrologically? Let’s dive in! Saturn, The Old One
The planet Saturn rules history, antiques, and a love of the past, so when you’re an old school type, you’ll usually see some Saturn dominance in some way. This can include:
- a prominent natal Saturn (conjunct an angle, conjunct the Sun or Moon, conjunct the Lunar Nodes, part of a stellium, at the anaretic degree, in the 1st house, the most or least aspected planet in your chart, a singleton) - multiple Capricorn planets (the sign ruled by Saturn) - Capricorn Sun, Moon, or Rising - multiple 10th house planets (the house ruled by Saturn) - the Sun or Moon in the 10th house - Midheaven (usually 10th house cusp) at the anaretic degree All of these can make the old schooler in you more prominent, and you may gravitate toward antiques, old slang, throwback styles, etc. The 5th House of Hobbies
You can also see a tie in with the 5th house, which rules what you love and what your hobbies are. Being old school may be a “hobby” for you if you have:
- Capricorn on the 5th house cusp - Saturn in the 5th house or aspecting the 5th house cusp or 5th house ruler - the ruler of the 10th house in the 5th house or ruler of the 5th house in the 10th house This can also come into play with Venus, who also rules what we enjoy, so being old school may be a source of pleasure if you have: - Saturn in close aspect or conjunct natal Venus - Venus in the 10th house - Venus in Capricorn - Venus and Saturn in a mutual reception And Uranus, Aquarius, and the 11th house -
Funnily enough, you can also see Uranus, Aquarius, and 11th house in the mix here. It’s funny because this trio rules the future, but this trio is also unconventional, so they can appreciate a little retro flavor at times. Plus it goes against the current times, and this trio lo-oves to go against the grain.
When you’re someone who has both Saturn, Capricorn, and 10th house AND Uranus, Aquarius, and 11th house, you can be futuristically retro! Temporarily Old School
You may find there are times in your life when you’re temporarily into old school stuff (a phase or fad for you). This can happen when you have transit (moving) Saturn coming into play, or aspects to natal Saturn, like:
- transit Saturn conjunct your natal Sun, Moon, Venus, 5th house ruler, or Uranus - transit Saturn in the natal 5th house - transit Venus conjunct natal Saturn - transit Uranus aspecting natal Saturn (especially conjunction) Uranus touring your natal 5th house can also mix up what you’re into (so if you’re not normally into the old school you can become so), and Venus touring your natal 10th house can bring a pleasant energy to the old school vibe. Progressions can also come into play, like: - progressed Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Ascendant, or Midheaven in Capricorn - progressed Saturn at the anaretic degree - progressed 5th house cusp in Capricorn - progressed planets entering the natal 10th house or conjunct the natal Midheaven - progressed Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Ascendant, or Midheaven conjunct natal Saturn So, have fun being old school! Suggested Reading: Astrology of Saturn & Your Home Life While some of us are more dramatic than others, we all get dramatic about something in our lives, so where does this come from astrologically? Let’s explore! Leo, the sign of Drama, and your Natal Leo House
Leo is the sign of drama. This literally includes theater and film, but can also mean the drama in your life, both good and bad. Leo is generally what you want to look for in your natal chart to find where you’re dramatic.
The house with Leo on the cusp (the cusp of a house is the very beginning of that house) in your natal chart can show where drama seems to find you, or you're a little dramatic (should I say drama queen?), though it doesn't have to be bad drama since Leo can be fun too. Since the 1st house rules you, a Leo Rising can show you come across as a dramatic person (though with the Rising, we tend to play up the better parts of the sign, so people can enjoy your theatrics in a light, humorous way). With the 2nd house, drama may play out financially; with the 6th house, with your work; and with the 10th house, with your career. Actually, Leo on any of these house cusps can be great for someone in the arts and entertainment industry (quite common on the 10th house cusp) since these are the professional houses. Just try to keep the off-screen drama to a minimum, eh? The 3rd house cusp in Leo can make you theatrical, dramatic with the way you communicate and express yourself, while the 9th house can make your theatrics bigger, or the drama in your life bigger, but you keep a good attitude about it. Both are excellent for writers, especially fiction. The 7th house cusp in Leo can bring theatrics in your relationships (or you have relationships with theatrical people), while the 11th house can bring friendships that are theatrical or with theatrical people. You can also attract a lot of Leos, literally! Drama and theater can be in your home life with Leo on the 4th house cusp, though you can also have more joy, or have a dramatic parent. One of your parents may be a Leo as well. With the 8th house, drama can lead you to make transformations in your life, or you make transformations in a dramatic way. The 5th house is naturally ruled by Leo, so if you have Leo on this house cusp, you can feel at ease with drama, like it's less of a problem. If you have Leo on the 12th house cusp, you can hide the drama and theatrics, not wanting anyone to see, or experience drama behind the scenes. What if I don’t have a Leo house, or I have more than one?
Some house systems (methods for calculating the houses in astrology) don’t have even-sized houses, so you may find you have no houses that fall in Leo, or that you have two.
When you have none that fall in Leo, this means Leo is contained within the house that falls in Cancer (this is called intercepted in astrology). Your drama can fall in that Cancer house, however it may play out quietly or subconsciously and not be super outward and noticeable. When you have two houses that fall in Leo, this gives extra drama! Leo energy can be strong for you, and you can bring theatrical energy to multiple areas of life. You may need to work on controlling that! Aries September 2015 Monthly Horoscope Your ruler, Mars, will enter earth sign Virgo on September 24th, and you can benefit when you focus on your work, and you want to get as much work done as you can. This can be your actual work with your job, or the work of daily life, and the little tasks and chores that we all have to deal with regularly. You can make lists and get organized, create a routine that you stick to, and try to do things in an orderly manner. The more you do, the more you want to do, so try not to push yourself too much and get plenty of rest. This can be a good time to look for another job or get presented with new work opportunities. Aries You’ve had a rough go of a it lately with love with Venus retrograde in your love sector since late July, and things don’t get much better in September with Mercury retrograde in your relationship sector during the second half of the month. You can have lots of miscommunications and fights with the people in your life, and can feel like they just don’t get it. Wires are crossed right now, so just try to stay calm and roll with it. This will pass eventually, so don’t take any actions you’ll regret later. All general horoscopes are meant for entertainment purposes only. Aries You can have increasing focus on your work life as the month goes on with Mars entering your work sector and a solar eclipse in your work sector. You can get a lot of work done, start new projects, and feel good about the work that you’re doing, and if you don’t, you can work on changing that so the work you’re doing is something you’re passionate about. You don’t want to do anything you don’t really believe in, and you don’t want to waste your time on anything you don’t love.
There are times in our lives when we all need some help, and for this, you can look to your 7th house. The 7th house rules the other people in our lives, which includes the people who can help us. When you need help, look at planets moving through your 7th house and aspects being made to the 7th house cusp and ruler. Planets Moving Through the 7th House
The planets going through the 7th house can help to bring helpful people into your life. You can find other people are beneficial when you have the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars or Jupiter going through your 7th house, and can make the most of the usefulness of the other people in your life. These are the periods when you can find it easiest to get help when you need it, find others are much more open to helping you when you ask for it, and it can be easier to ask (especially with Mercury or Venus).
Saturn going through the 7th house can make help hard to come by, so you have to learn how to do more on your own. Saturn is restrictive energy at its core, and Saturn in the 7th house limits the people in your life so you focus more only on the relationships that are healthy and positive. Uranus going through the 7th house can make help come and go quickly, so you have to adapt fast. You may find help in unusual places or unconventional ways, or with people you wouldn't have thought of before. Help can come out of left field at times, and you can step outside of your comfort zone to get the help you need. Neptune going through the 7th house can make you the helpful person, having to help save the people around you. You can be super compassionate and understanding, and do more to help others, even making hard sacrifices for yourself. You may have a harder time figuring out who to get help from when you need it though, and have to be careful of people who want to take advantage of you. Pluto going through this house can make the people who try to help you dominating or controlling, so you have to be wary of that. On the upside, it can bring powerful people into your life, and others can help you transform in profound ways. If you need help in a big way, you may be able to get it more easily than if you need help with something smaller. Transit Aspects to the 7th House
Transit aspects to your 7th house cusp or ruler can make things more beneficial or difficult in your quest to get help when you need it, and it depends on the aspects made and the planets involved.
The hard aspects (squares, oppositions) can make help hard to find, with too many strings, or that’s not the right kind you need. You may find others end up getting in the way, you have to do things over again yourself, or help is simply nonexistent and you have to do more on your own. This is especially true under hard aspects by transit Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto. Easy aspects (sextiles, trines) can make it easier for you to find the help you need when you need it. You may have to ask for it with the sextiles, but may find it comes to you without even asking with the trines. This is especially beneficial under easy aspects by transit Venus, Mars, Jupiter, or Pluto. Conjunctions can go either way, but you can find that you need help more with a conjunction, or that others need your help more. Suggested Reading: The 7th House page |
