Time for another character analysis! I was going to post this tomorrow but it turns out today is National Ghostbusters Day, so I had to do it today! This year marks the 30th anniversary of the release of the movie Ghostbusters, and tomorrow, a restored and remastered version is being re-released. We all know and love this movie - who doesn’t think green foodie ghosts are cute? - so I thought I’d go into the astrology of the 4 main characters, the Ghostbusters themselves: Egon Spengler, Raymond Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, and Peter Venkman. Astrology of Egon
Egon (Harold Ramis, how we miss thee) is the super-science guy of the quartet, the one always spewing out things that don’t make sense to us normal dumb-dumbs, with gadgets in hand and ready to analyze anything.
This leads me right to a Virgo-Aquarius-Gemini combo, with Virgo being the sign that has to get into the details, Aquarius being one of the signs of science, and Gemini being the sign of gadgets and the mind. I’d bet his Sun, Mercury, and Venus are conjunct in one of those signs, perhaps Virgo since he lacks the social grace of an air sign, and his Mars is in another sign, perhaps Aquarius since he’s kind of a weirdo (I say that lovingly, but Mars in Aquarius has a tendency to be a little weird). That could put his Moon in Gemini, which would show the love of gadgets. He doesn’t talk too much, which a typical Moon in Gemini does, but perhaps a prominent Saturn, or having a Saturn-Mercury harsh aspect, would tone that down. Another thing I thought of with Egon is that he seems like a genius (in the conventional sense, anyway), so he’d likely have some genius aspects in his chart. Genius can be shown through quintiles and septiles, which are minor aspects but highly creative in the genius kind of way, especially with Uranus to the Sun, Moon, Mercury, or Ascendant (although, oddly, sometimes no aspect between Uranus and Mercury can be indicative as well). Given his mental dexterity, I’d also guess his Uranus is in his 3rd house, the house of the mind. Uranus in the 3rd house would also downplay the talky-ness of a Gemini Moon, making him seem more awkward. Astrology of Raymond
Raymond (Dan Aykroyd) is the sweet one of the bunch, the one who’s a little child-like with his love of the paranormal, and just look at how much he loved that firehouse. There’s an innocent curiosity to him, which leads me to Aries Sun in the 3rd house or Gemini Sun in the 1st house.
Aries in the 3rd house would make him an Aquarius or Capricorn rising, while Gemini in the 1st would make him a Gemini rising. I lean toward the Gemini Sun, Gemini rising, as Gemini is the sweetly curious sign. I’d put his Moon in Aries then, which would give him the energy and enthusiasm he has, and his Moon would be in the 11th house of friends and groups. He’s in an important group, for sure! Astrology of Winston
Winston (Ernie Hudson; btw, Winston Zeddemore is one of my fave names ever) is the one who comes on once the group has gotten some fame and success, and they need to take someone on to help with the workload. He doesn’t seem to care very much about the science of it all, and just goes with the flow.
I get a very earthy feel from Winston; earth signs in play are Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn. I’d put his Sun in the 6th house (naturally ruled by Virgo) of work, since he’s a worker bee. I like his Mars in Taurus, sticks with what he does, not too high or low. I also get a very manly feel from Winston, so I’m thinking perhaps Mars, a very masculine planet, is in his 1st house of the self. That would make him a Taurus rising, which goes with the earthiness. Astrology of Venkman
Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) is the loverboy-man of the group, the jokester, the one who may have two PhD’s but you have no clue how he got them. Venkman is fire signs all the way, especially Leo and Sagittarius.
With his constant need for attention, I’d go with Leo Sun and Mercury in the 1st house - it’s gotta be all about HIM, always! Leo can also be a jokester, especially as the rising sign. I’d put his Moon in Sagittarius - doesn’t get down and out about much, always looking at the brighter side, ever the optimistic, and always looking to sell-sell-sell, talking people into things he shouldn’t be. With Leo rising, his Moon would be in the 5th house of love, and we all know about his hormones. Going with the hormones, I’d make his Venus and Mars conjunct - that tends to supply a super-healthy libido. There is an asteroid named Casanova (number 7328 on astro.com if you want to look it up in your chart; mine is opposite my Jupiter and square my AC/DC axis, and I so hate Casanovas IRL). Wouldn’t it fit if that asteroid was prominent for Venkman? Perhaps conjunct a personal planet (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars), or in his 1st house of the self (or on the Midheaven, which can show how you project yourself). So those are my astrological ideas for the Ghostbusters! Q: If you see a ghost, who ya gonna call? A: A shrink. About Asteroid Hermes in Astrology
Hermes was first discovered in 1937 by Karl Reinmuth in Germany, but then was lost for a while and rediscovered in 2003. The Greek god Hermes is the Roman god Mercury, so asteroid Hermes is very similar to Mercury (pretty funny it was lost for a while then!).
Hermes was the god of thieves, commerce, shepherds, liars, and travelers (some of those seem worse than others, eh?). Astrologically, according to Mark Andrew Holmes, Hermes seems to have something to do with cleverness, intelligence, divisiveness, division, and occultism. The sign and house location of your natal Hermes can show where you’re clever and smart, but also where you can sow division or have difficulty with division. Aspects by natal Hermes to the other natal planets can bring beneficial or challenging energy for cleverness and division. Natal Hermes conjunct (aligned with) any natal planets can bring strong Hermes energy to that planet. You might be extremely smart with whatever that planet governs, but maybe a little too smart for your own good, you know? If you have a strong natal asteroid Hermes (conjunct the Sun, Moon, a personal planet, or an angle; is anaretic, unaspected, or makes a ton of aspects), you may be someone who is super smart, quick on your feet, but also drawn to division and controversy. You can also be drawn to the occult, and may dedicate yourself to it. In transit, Hermes can show where you'll need to have some of that quick wit and sharp intelligence. This can focus on the areas of life ruled by the house in your natal chart transit Hermes is currently touring. Transit aspects by transit Hermes to your natal planets can impact your ability to be sharp and clever, or division and controversial. Sextiles and trines (beneficial aspects) can bring out your intelligence with whatever the planet rules, and you can make smart decisions. Squares and oppositions (challenging aspects) can bring challenges, and you may have a hard time thinking fast, step all over yourself, and have to wade through controversy. Conjunctions can bring chances for either, but can be beneficial if you’re cautious and don’t give in to impulse. Transit aspects by the transit planets to your natal Hermes can also impact your ability to be sharp and clever, to get through controversy, and to use your inner occultist. ARIES AUGUST 2014 On August 12th, Venus enters fellow fire sign Leo, and you take pleasure in doing the things you enjoy most, engaging in your hobbies, and spending time with loved ones. You can take up a new hobby, especially something artistic, and you’re fun to be around. If single, you can be flirty and have an easier time meeting new people, but you prefer to keep it casual at first, wanting to keep all of your options open and play the field a little. If you’re in a relationship, you can be more romantic with your partner but in a playful way, and try doing things that the two of you did when you first got together. General horoscopes are always meant for entertainment purposes only. For a more accurate view, read your Sun sign, Rising sign, and Moon sign.
ARIES Your mind is on love during the first half of August, and you feel comfortable when you have a lot of people interested in you. You can be a bit of a flirt, so if you’re attached, watch it! During the second half of the month, your flirt factor increases, and it seems like everyone is trying to court you, whether you want to be courted or not. You take the attention in stride, and let ‘em down easy. The 27th could be when passions run highest for you, and having someone around to help you work through it will be beneficial. General horoscopes are always meant for entertainment purposes only. For a more accurate view, read your Sun sign, Rising sign, and Moon sign.
ARIES You have a hard time getting your head in the game during the first half of August, but you get back into it during the second half. You have a great eye for the details, can stay organized, and get done lots of tasks and projects. You’re a good coworker, and can take orders as long as no one is breathing down your neck. You might be a bit lazy on the 1st though, but you can take control on the 15th. On the 25th, you’re focused, disciplined, and hard-working, and dedicate yourself to anything you’re tasked to do. Another asteroid diary post, this time focusing on asteroid Deucalion, the asteroid of starting over. Let’s dive in! About Asteroid Deucalion in Astrology
Asteroid Deucalion was found in 1999, and is outside of Neptune's orbit. Deucalion was the son of Prometheus, and ruled Phthia. His story is a little like Noah's Ark; his father warned him of a flood, so Deucalion built an ark for him and his wife. They were the only ones who survived, and then repopulated the Earth.
In astrology, Deucalion shows where you have to start over and use what you've learned. In your natal chart, the sign and house location of your natal Deucalion can show where in your life you may start over at some point, or what your approach to starting over is. Any aspects your natal Deucalion makes to the other natal planets can help you when starting over, or bring challenges. Sextiles and trines (beneficial aspects) can make starting over a process that is easier for you, and you have more skills to get through it well. Squares and oppositions (challenging aspects) can make starting over a challenging process for you, and you have less to work with or more to work through in order to make it positive. If Deucalion is conjunct (aligned with) any of your natal planets, well, brace yourself, because you’re super likely to have to start over at some point with whatever that planet rules. BUT know it’s also likely going to be something that leads to major growth and more opportunities once you do. In transit, Deucalion can show where you're starting over in life, or what you're getting a second chance with. The areas of life ruled by the house in your natal chart transit Deucalion is currently touring might be areas where you’re starting over now or taking a second chance. Transit Deucalion sextile or trine any natal planets can help you with taking second chances and starting over, if needed with whatever it rules. Squares and oppositions to any natal planets can make it difficult, and it may be a harrowing process that you have to learn a lot from. Transit Deucalion conjunct any natal planets pretty much inevitably shows you’re starting over or taking a second chance with whatever the natal planet rules. This doesn’t have to ve a challenge or traumatizing though, and it can be used to improve your life in big ways. It may be seen as a blessing or some great luck.
