As the planet of change, Uranus can bring a lot of sudden, unexpected changes into our lives. Uranus can be unsettling at times, but also an interesting planet to work with. Uranus doesn’t want everything to stay as it is. Uranus gets bored easily, and doesn’t want us to be comfortable with the status quo. Uranus wants us to smash it! The areas of life ruled by the house transit Uranus is travelling in your natal chart can get a lot of the change energy, for better or worse, and you have to go with it. Uranus usually spends 6-10 years in a house, so you get a solid period of change. Transit Uranus in the houses can be more prominent in your life when you have another transit planet in the same house, hard aspects to the house cusp or ruler, or a Uranus aspect. Transit Uranus in the Houses:Transit Uranus in the 1st House
The 1st house is the house of the self, so having transit Uranus in your 1st house can focus on changes that impact any and every area of your life or part of yourself. You can feel that some of the changes are within your control, but may feel that some hit you outta nowhere. You may have a hard time settling for the traditional and the status quo, and want things to be different in big ways. As Uranus crosses over the 1st house cusp, this can be when the change energy is strongest and can trigger a big change.
You have to work with the changes and try to make them of your own volition. Instead of letting things happen to you, make them happen yourself. Don’t sit back and watch - take action! The 1st house rules new beginnings and new journeys, so think about new beginnings and new journeys that are a little different, or that would be a big change in your life, and get moving with them. You can focus on almost anything in your life with the 1st house, so you don’t have to limit yourself. Also, be more flexible with the changes that occur that feel out of your control. They’re likely meant to challenge you in a way you haven’t thought of, and keep you on your toes for new beginnings on the horizon. Transit Uranus in the 2nd House
The 2nd house is the house of money, so having transit Uranus in your 2nd house can bring changes for you financially. This is often a time when you can experience big surges in money as well as big downfalls, and earnings can be erratic. There may be some changes with your work as a result. You can also question your values, feel more insecure and unstable, and your confidence can go really high and really low quickly.
Find some new approaches to handling your finances, but in a way that’s smart and responsible. When you experience sudden windfalls and positive financial periods, make sure you save for when things aren’t so well. It can be a good period for earning money through commission, in spurts, using technology, and in a way where it’s not steady but more periodic. You may want to focus on your values in life and assess if they are consistent with who you are now and who you’re becoming, rather than who you used to be. If you haven’t questioned your values before, this can be the time to. This transit can be an important period for grounding yourself, and that can help you maintain confidence and security throughout changes. Transit Uranus in the 3rd House
The 3rd house is the house of the mind, so having transit Uranus in your 3rd house can bring changes for you mentally, in the way you communicate and express yourself, and can challenge you to be more open to unusual ideas and plans. You may feel a little out there with your ideas and plans though, and can be a little too futuristic and occasionally unrealistic.
Find new ways of communicating and expressing yourself. There are many ways out there, and you can challenge yourself to explore new ways, to experiment, and this can help open up your mind more as well as understand others better. You need to work on opening up your mind in big ways, and seeing things in brand new ways that you wouldn’t have before. Open up to unusual subjects and ideas, original thinkers, and learn about things you’d normally think were too weird. As for your ideas, feel free to come up with all of the kooky ones you can think of, but try not to waste your time on any that aren’t realistic. Do your homework before taking action and committing yourself to anything. Transit Uranus in the 4th House
The 4th house is the house of the home and family, so having transit Uranus in your 4th house can bring changes in your home life, with your family, as well as emotionally or with the foundation of your life. You might struggle with these changes as they can be emotionally upsetting and seem to shake the foundation of your life.
Go with the changes, and work to make changes at home. You may need to constantly make changes, so try to focus on little things that keep you busy, like redecorating or renovating room-by-room. If you’re a bit of a nomad, you may find you want to move around a lot during this transit and not put down any roots anywhere. Home may become something that takes on a different meaning for you now, and that’s okay. You can also work on making changes in your relationships with your relatives, which can mean improvements for some while it may mean severing ties for others, depending on the state of the relationship. You can also find new, unusual ways of strengthening the foundation for your life and to make you feel emotionally stable and secure. Transit Uranus in the 5th House
The 5th house is the house of love, so having transit Uranus in your 5th house can bring changes in your love relationships, with what you love and enjoy, and you can become interested in things that seem really different and out there. A lot of the relationship changes can be unsettling, and love can come and go quickly.
You have to work on being more grounded in love, and not giving in to the flashes of love that comes and goes. It can seem exciting and fun, but it can break you just as fast. Slow things down when meeting someone new, if single. Be open to someone who is very different from what you usually go for, or a type of relationship that’s different. If you’re in a relationship, try to breathe some fresh life into it so you don’t get bored and look for excitement elsewhere. You can also focus on new ways of expressing love, and what you want from love and are willing to give in love can change. As for hobbies, be open to taking on new ones that are different, unconventional, or strange. Transit Uranus in the 6th House
The 6th house is the house of work, so having transit Uranus in your 6th house can bring changes in your work life, with the work you do, and you may change your profession or suddenly feel you should be doing something different. You can also experience a lot of changes in your daily life, with your routine or regimen, and with your health.
Make sure that you’re passionate about the work you’re doing, otherwise that’s usually when you run into problems. If you’re not, then think about how you can make changes to be doing work that you love. You may think outside of the box and push yourself outside of your comfort zone to make this happen. Just try not to make decisions on a whim, otherwise you can have professional instability. Implement changes with your routine and your regimen so you’re not getting easily bored in your daily life, and keep lots of room for flexibility in your schedule for last-minute changes. With your health, you can open up to trying out unconventional practices and methods, going the non-traditional route, and you may need to experiment to find solutions to health issues. Transit Uranus in the 7th House
The 7th house is the house of relationships, so having transit Uranus in your 7th house can bring about changes in your relationships and connections with others, and you can attract all sorts of different, unusual people in your life, and experience sudden, expected changes in existing relationships. You may want more space in your relationships, and can be more emotionally detached.
Work on making changes in your relationships, but to improve the relationships and not walk away entirely, unless the relationship is really unhealthy and in need of ending. Try not to embark on changes on a whim, suddenly/unexpectedly, without rhyme or reason. Be smart, and try to get on the same page as the other person. Be open to new and unusual people, and to making new and unusual connections. Relationships may be different in some way, and you may prefer people who give you space to be yourself. In existing relationships, if you feel anyone is suffocating you, you can withdraw, so try to get the space you need. Commitment may mean something new and different to you now, and you can be open to different interpretations. Transit Uranus in the 8th House
The 8th house is the house of transformations, so having transit Uranus in your 8th house can bring about sudden and unexpected transformations, and they can feel unsettling. Changes may be profound, but you can get swept up in extreme emotions because of them, and be prone to pessimism. You may also struggle with shared resources, intimacy, and serious issues that you hold deep inside of yourself.
You may want to focus on the things you hold deep inside, your inner darkness and demons, and use new and different ways of addressing them. When you work them out, changes can be less unsettling and less disruptive in your life, and you don’t have to get stuck in bad moods. Changes that you embark on should be changes that will lead to positive transformations, and these may be long-term, so try to start changes and stick with them to see the transformations through. You can work on finding new ways of strengthening intimacy in your life, of sharing more with others, and improving your emotional bonds and connections with others. Transit Uranus in the 9th House
The 9th house is the house of expansion, so having transit Uranus in your 9th house can bring changes to the opportunities that you’re presented with and the ways in which you expand your life. When you get started with a change, you may go too far with it at times, and need to try and get some control over it. Be more mindful of the changes you’re making, and when you’re expanding your life, work on going about it in more stable ways.
You can be super optimistic with Uranus touring the 9th house, and can focus on the brighter side of life, but this may need to be grounded more in reality so you don’t become unrealistic. This can be a great time for higher education, especially if you’re learning anything Uranus-related or if you’re focusing on something really unusual and different. If you’re in school, you may pick up a different interest from what you’re already studying. This can also be a good period for sudden travel that opens you up for new opportunities. Transit Uranus in the 10th House
The 10th house is the house of career, so having transit Uranus in your 10th house can bring about changes for you professionally. The kind of career you want may no longer feel right, and the career you’re currently in may no longer be of interest, feeling boring and stale. You can crave a change in direction in life, and focus on unusual and new goals.
If you’re not passionate about your career, this can be a difficult transit professionally, much like with the 6th house. You need to focus on having a career you love, and if it’s not what you’re doing, you can work on finding new and unconventional ways of doing what you’re passionate about. If you don’t want to change careers, you may be able to breathe some new life in your existing career to keep your interest, and find new, unconventional approaches to your work. You can take a different approach with your goals and ambitions, and think about where you’re going in life. Try to be smart and do your homework before you completely change direction though, otherwise you may wish you hadn’t when the transit is over. Transit Uranus in the 11th House
The 11th house is the house Uranus naturally rules, so having transit Uranus in the 11th house can make it more comfortable for you to focus on your dreams, make changes in your life, be true to yourself, go outside of your comfort zone, feel hopeful, take up causes, be independent, and expand your social circle.
It may be difficult with these if you’re experiencing a hard aspect by transit Saturn, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto to the 11th house cusp or ruler. You may focus more on the 11th house stuff when transit Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars are in the 11th house with Uranus. Transit Uranus in the 12th House
The 12th house is the house of endings, so having transit Uranus in your 12th house can bring about sudden and unexpected endings, as well as sudden and unexpected issues from the past coming into your life, old enemies surfacing, or subconscious issues suddenly cropping up. You may experience changes that you have to deal with on your own or that impact you subconsciously.
You may need to work on issues from the past or subconscious issues proactively, and work on gaining insights into yourself and your life, and they can come suddenly. You can benefit from things like therapy, though you may be open to different and unusual therapeutic approaches. You can work on letting go of baggage, and this may be easier for you as you’re more detached. Any changes that you embark on, you may do quietly and on your own, in the background and out of the spotlight, not wanting to draw too much attention to yourself, though you can get some attention for things you do in the background. This can also be a good time for focusing on your spirituality, exploring new and unconventional spiritual beliefs, and connecting to your intuition. Suggested Reading: The Survival Series: Surviving Transit Pluto, Neptune, Saturn, Full Moons, and Mercury retrograde in the Houses, and Hard Pluto to the Personal Planets and Hard Saturn to the Personal Planets The basics: A retrograde occurs when a planet appears to be moving backwards from our vantage point here on Earth. It isn't actually moving backwards, it just appears that way. Mercury turns retrograde most often, about 3-4 times per year, and lasts for several weeks. When a planet retrogrades, what that planet rules tends to be thrown off, along with what the sign it's retrograding in rules. With Mercury retrograde, we experience a shadow and a storm. The shadow period starts when Mercury first hits the point in the Zodiac it will turn direct at, and ends when it last hits the point in the Zodiac it will turn retrograde at. Most people don't feel the effects of Mercury retrograde until it enters the storm period though. The storm period of Mercury retrograde is when Mercury is moving at its slowest, less than 40 minutes per day. Mercury is a fast-moving planet and hates it when he's moving slowly. There's usually two storm periods, one around the time Mercury turns retrograde, and one around when it turns direct. This Mercury retrograde begins on July 26th at 1:02AM ET and ends on August 19th at 12:25AM ET. The shadow period is July 7th - September 2nd. The first storm period is July 17th - August 4th, and second storm period is August 12th - 24th. Here comes to second round of Mercury madness for 2018! This Mercury retrograde occurs entirely in fire sign Leo, the sign of drama and theatricality. So get ready for some drama? We do tend to love theatrics with Mercury retrograde in Leo, turning little things into big ones, and acting like everything is the end of the world. We’re a little desperate for attention at times, and that can make us act too dramatic to get that attention. We need a little love, a little affection, a little heart. We need to remember to be good to our hearts and consider the feelings and needs of others. Leo rules who and what we love, so we may focus more on issues in love relationships or with hobbies. We may want more time for fun and play, have less focus on work, our children may need more attention and act more rebellious, old flames may come back into our lives, and existing flames may look for some renewed sparks. Creative outlets can be very helpful whenever Leo is involved, so try to make time for your hobbies in healthy and positive ways. The rub with this retrograde is it’s occurring in the middle of Mars retrograde in opposing sign Aquarius, and squares (hard aspect) Jupiter in Scorpio and Uranus in Taurus (who will also turn retrograde August 7th), forming a fixed grand cross. The fixed energy is super strong this summer, and we can feel extra stubborn, extra stuck, extra fixed in our ways, and extra frustrated. There can be a lot of heated rhetoric in the world, but may not be much to back it up initially (at least until Mars retrograde out of Aquarius and into Capricorn). We’ve got to keep ourselves from getting stuck and staying that way, and open up our minds and hearts. During the retrograde, we’ll have two eclipses, a lunar eclipse on July 27th and solar eclipse on August 11th, The lunar eclipse occurs the day after the retrograde starts and is in Aquarius, the sign opposite Leo, so emotions can be super high and we can to work a lot harder at open communication and understanding. But for the Mercury retrograde, the August 11th solar eclipse is more important because it’ll be conjunct (aligned with) Mercury. Uh oh? So the solar eclipse can bring extra hot focus on the Mercury retrograde energy, and it can make some difficulties even more difficult and explosive, while others may become easier and we can find a way out. Try not to give in to the drama, use creative energy to your advantage, and keep yourself moving through the energy. While Mercury is retrograde, he’ll make 3 major aspects, first a conjunction to the Sun on August 8th (10:06PM ET). The inferior conjunction, this can be a good point in the retrograde to get started with something new, and it can be a focus for the next two months or so. Then Mercury squares (hard aspect, 3 signs away) Jupiter in Scorpio on August 11th (2:31AM ET), and we can be extra lazy, indulgent, prone to excess, or prone to big talk with little action to back it up. We can feel extra stuck and frustrated around this aspect. Mercury retrograde also sextiles (positive aspect, two signs away) Venus in Libra on August 18th (11:35AM ET), the day before the retrograde ends, so the retrograde ends sextile Venus. We can come out of the retrograde with easier energy, and work to get along better and find some balance (or maybe overindulge on junk food!). Mercury will be at a critical degree, points of critical energy, early in the retrograde, July 29th - August 2nd at 21-22 degrees Leo. There can be some extra hot energy at that time, and we can be mightily frustrated and annoyed and hysterical. Breathe! The retrograde begins at 23 degrees Leo, so those of you Leos born August 14th - 18th can feel the start of this retrograde most. The retrograde ends at 11 degrees Leo, so those of you Leos born August 2nd - 6th can feel the end of the retrograde most. For the rest of you, check the house(s) Mercury will be retrograding in of your own natal chart, and any aspects Mercury will make during its retrograde to your natal planets, to fully understand how it will impact you personally. If you have Mercury retrograde in your natal or progressed chart, you may not feel the worst of this. Those individuals generally don't experience the difficulties of the retrograde because it feels more natural to them. Of course, chances are everyone else around them doesn't have the same aspect, so they can still experience difficulties brought on by others. Suggested Reading: The Mercury, Venus and Mars Retrogrades page for general interpretations Eclipse time! July brings with in the second round of eclipses for 2018 (and there will be a third eclipse in August, so it's a trio this time). It starts with a solar eclipse in water sign Cancer on July 12th at 10:48PM ET. Cancer is the sign of the home, family, country, so we can be extra focused on matters of the home, family, and country. We can focus on making improvements at home/in the homeland, and work on connecting as family. Cancer rules emotion, comfort and support, and we can be more in tune with what we're feeling, identify more strongly with our emotions, and can be driven by them to take action. We may want to stick to what we know best though, not wanting to push outside of comfort zones too much, and we can crave more support, and have to give more support to loved ones. We need to be emotionally considerate of all. Cancer also rules foundations as it's the sign at the bottom of the Zodiac Wheel, so we may want to work on strengthening the foundations of ourselves, our lives, our countries, the world. We need solid foundations that help us feel more secure and stable. The eclipse closely opposes Pluto in Capricorn, and this can really ramp up energy. There can be some extra rage, hostility, violence, or threats, and we may be focusing on the darker side of life a little bit. Emotions can swing between extremes, and we have to work on not being so subjective. Something or someone important may fall (and it ain't pretty!). We have to work on transforming for the better and not trying to dominate. Struggles over power and control can bring out the worst in us. Don't go to that bad place! The eclipse also trines (positive aspect, 4 signs away) Neptune in Pisces, and this can help with emotional understanding, increase compassion, and hopefully mitigate some of the Pluto opposition hard energy. Try to be sweet and sensitive! This is the outlier eclipse for the year as it's the only one not in Aquarius or Leo. We'll shift focus to eclipses in Cancer and Capricorn next year, so we may start thinking about the themes that will come up with those eclipse now, getting a little glimpse of things to come. The solar eclipse occurs at 20 degrees 41 minutes Cancer. The aspects to this eclipse are: Conjunction: 15 degrees 41 minutes - 25 degrees 41 minutes Cancer Semisextile: 18 degrees 41 minutes - 22 degrees 41 minutes Gemini or Leo Sextile: 15 degrees 41 minutes - 25 degrees 41 minutes Taurus or Virgo Square: 15 degrees 41 minutes - 25 degrees 41 minutes Aries or Libra Trine: 15 degrees 41 minutes - 25 degrees 41 minutes Scorpio or Pisces Quincunx: 18 degrees 41 minutes - 22 degrees 41 minutes Sagittarius or Aquarius Opposition: 15 degrees 41 minutes - 25 degrees 41 minutes Capricorn Then we have the lunar eclipse in Aquarius on July 27th at 4:21PM ET. Lunar eclipses tend to be super heightened emotional energy, but Aquarius is one of the least emotional signs of all. It's very emotionally detached, living in the mind. So we may focus on being more analytical emotionally, and try to process everything through our heads. We want to think through emotions, which can help keep us calmer at times. Aquarius rules our friends, groups, and the world at large, so we may want to come together on something, some sort of issue, and there can be more focus on causes, more protesting, and more wanting to take a stand with something. The inner rebel can come out collectively. Aquarius also rules our hopes and dreams for the future, so we may feel more invested in the future, in what we hope for, and in what we dream about. We can focus on trying to make progress with the dreams we have that we're passionate about, and may walk away from dreams we don't care as much about or don't feel are realistically possible. Aquarius is one of the tech rulers, ruling the internet, so all that drama that's we've had the last couple years with online privacy and hacking and fraud and terrorism and the like, can get some extra focus. Some may worsen, some may end, some may come to a head, and some may be exposed. This eclipse comes with some wonky energy as it'll be conjunct (aligned with) retrograde Mars in Aquarius (in fact, Mars retrograde triggers the eclipse a few days before on the 24th) and square (hard aspect, 3 signs away) Uranus in Taurus. The eclipse also occurs the day after we start a new Mercury retrograde round in Leo. Super wonky! This eclipse really riles up the fixed grand cross we'll have cooking this summer, and we may feel way crazy stubborn and stuck and immovable. Though with this eclipse bang on Mars retrograde, that may trigger some sort of event (and watch for violence! some rebellion for sure, perhaps a mini uprising, something with a large group, and oh yeah, watch for some more major tech/online warfare). As stuck as we may be, we can be super frustrated by it, and the emotional energy of the lunar eclipse coupled with the Mars retrograde might make something/someone snap. Or we might get so entrenched that we don't see any way out. Yeah, this energy is NOT great! On a personal level, we all need to make sure we don't get stuck like that. Keep yourself moving, even the tiniest baby steps. And find a healthy outlet for frustrated energy. That one is always a good idea! The eclipse is also semisextile (positive aspect, one sign away) Saturn in Capricorn, so the one bright spot to this eclipse, albeit a very small one! Saturn helps us try to get focused, get disciplined, and make some progress along our path, trying to steer us in the right direction while everything else is trying to blow us off track! The lunar eclipse occurs at 4 degrees 44 minutes Aquarius. The aspects to this eclipse are: Conjunction: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 9 degrees 44 minutes Aquarius Semisextile: 2 degrees 44 minutes - 6 degrees 44 minutes Capricorn or Pisces Sextile: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 9 degrees 44 minutes Aries or Sagittarius Square: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 9 degrees 44 minutes Taurus or Scorpio Trine: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 9 degrees 44 minutes Gemini or Libra Quincunx: 2 degrees 44 minutes - 6 degrees 44 minutes Cancer or Virgo Opposition: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 9 degrees 44 minutes Leo *Note that since the lunar eclipse is early in sign and the orb for major eclipse aspects is 5 degrees, some may also feel the major aspects at 29 degrees; however, since it would have to be 29 degrees 44 minutes or later (the tail end of a sign), there may only be a very subtle impact for a conjunction (at 29 degrees Capricorn) or opposition (at 29 degrees Cancer), and even then it may not be much since it'd be at the widest part of the orb and out-of-sign. Suggested Reading: The New & Full Moons page for general interpretations The anaretic degree is 29 degrees of any sign, the very last degree of a sign. It’s seen as a point of crisis energy because of that. In the natal chart, it can show an area where we struggle, either playing up the energy too much or not enough. In the progressed chart, it can indicate a period where we’ll feel a major urge to get things started or finished while we still have the chance before the progression moves into a new sign. In the return chart, it can show an area of contention for the period the return chart is active for and with whatever it rules. In transit, it can show a time when the whole world is struggling with intense, aggravating energy. This article focuses on the impact via transit (which will tend to be more negative since there are billions of humans and we can't all consciously make the same decision at the same time to use an astrological placement positively! I wrote about the anaretic degree in the natal chart HERE and in the progressed chart HERE for Astrology Weekly). Anaretic Transit Planets in Fire Signs
Anaretic Aries can be high energy since Aries is an active fire and cardinal sign, but energy we can struggle with. It needs a healthy outlet, something to be directed at, otherwise it becomes combustible.
Anaretic Leo can also be high energy being a fire sign as well, and this can play out more in terms of creative energy as well as the energy of love. We may be more boastful, proud, and arrogant, and creative outlets and creative expression can be helpful. Anaretic Sagittarius, another fire sign, also contains a lot of energy, and this can play out more in terms of expansion and experiences. We can struggle to be open-minded, to get out into the world, and to understand other ways of living and believing, and need to have more space and think more freely. Anaretic Transit Planets in Earth Signs
Anaretic Taurus can be low energy since Taurus is a fixed earth sign, the most grounded of the signs, and we may struggle with taking action, with making decisions, and with making things happen as we feel stuck in many ways. We can be stubborn and need to be open to movement and change.
Anaretic Virgo, another earth sign, can be anxious, restless energy, overly worried and nitpicky. We need to manage stress and have healthy outlets for frazzled nerves. Anaretic Capricorn, the third earth sign, can be overly cautious, constantly overwhelmed, struggle with responsibilities, and avoid anything unconventional. We need to be more open, not shirk responsibilities but also not take any on that aren’t ours to take, and do the right thing at all times. Anaretic Transit Planets in Air Signs
Anaretic Gemini can be high energy, but focused on the mind as a mutable air sign. That mental energy can be difficult to pin down, ebbing and flowing all over the place, and there’s too many ideas, too many opinions, too many plans, too many options. We need to ground our mental energy and focus.
Anaretic Libra, another air sign, struggles with vacillation, caring too much what other people think, and feeling out of sorts and out of balance easily. We need to work on keeping the peace, being compromising and fair, but also understanding ourselves as individuals better. Anaretic Aquarius, the third air sign, can get lost in high ideas, thinking too broadly and too widely, and shuns the traditional. We need to work on blending the unconventional with the traditional, and bringing our minds out of total idealism and into some sense of reality. Aanaretic Transit Planets in Water Signs
Anaretic Cancer can be strong emotional energy as a cardinal water sign, and we can identify too much with what we feel, making us subjective, or struggle with emotional expression and emotional understanding or connection. We need to work on strengthening ourselves internally and strengthening the foundation of our lives and the world.
Anaretic Scorpio, another water sign, can struggle with emotional depth, getting lost in extreme emotional swings and pessimism, or wanting to avoid diving into the depths completely. Rage and hatred and jealousy and envy and the darker side to ourselves can be a problem. We need to bring in some light, work on emotional understanding, and transform for the better in as many ways as we can. Anaretic Pisces, the third water sign, can lack focus and be too fluid and flowy emotionally. Easily scattered, overly vulnerable, lacking interest in the real world, being lost in other worlds and realms, or shunning the mystical and spiritual entirely. We need to find the balance between the physical world and the beyond, and ground ourselves emotionally and spiritually, and not be afraid of our intuition.
