In this installment of the asteroid diaries, we’re going to cover asteroid Apollo! Let’s explore. About Asteroid Apollo in Astrology
Apollo was the son of Zeus, and the Greek god of music. In astrology, Apollo is where you can take something for granted, and ignore it to your detriment. When you focus on it, you can become a master. It’s a blind spot, but then you see it and it becomes a huge asset.
The areas of life ruled by the house in your natal chart your natal Apollo is located can get this energy, and you can ignore it to a degree, but have a lot of potential if you can give it attention. When your natal Apollo is conjunct something in your natal chart, you can have obsessive energy with that planet/point, imbalance, and a constant need for harmony. So while it may start out as something you ignore, once you do focus on it, you can get kind of wrapped up in it (Pluto on steroids). Balancing this out is really important with Apollo conjunct any of your other natal bodies. You don’t want to ignore what it’s conjunct, but you also don’t want to get too obsessed. Sextiles and trines by natal Apollo to other natal bodies can make it easier for you to balance this out when focusing on what the other body rules. You can dive in, but not too much. Squares and oppositions by natal Apollo to other natal bodies can make it more challenging for you to balance this out, and you either totally ignore or totally obsess. Balance, balance, balance! In transit, Apollo can show where you ignore something and take it for granted, so you are a bit blind. This can occur in the areas of life ruled by the house in your natal chart transit Apollo is touring. Sextiles and trines by transit Apollo can help with balance, while squares and oppositions can bring out obsession that needs to be controlled. Conjunctions by transit Apollo can show you areas you’ve been ignoring and have a lot of potential with, if you want it, but you do have to keep in mind balance. The key word for Apollo! Apollo can also be interesting in synastry (comparing two people’s charts to see compatibility as part of relationship astrology analysis). When one person’s Apollo is conjunct the natal planet or body of another person, the Apollo person is enthralled with the other. This can be especially strong when Apollo is conjunct someone’s natal Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Ascendant, or Descendant. How to Find Asteroid Apollo in Your Natal Chart & in Transit

It turns out yesterday was Batman Day, and this year is the 75th anniversary of the debut of Mr. Batman to the world. So I started spewing out ideas of what would be in Batman's natal chart, and kept thinking more about it for the rest of the day. So I decided to do a full post on the King of Bats himself. For some clarification, it turns out there isn't an actual birth date for Batman. Comic books don't like to get specific with birth dates, so there's a whole bunch of different dates out there, from February 19th to April 7th, sometime in October or November - this post on MTV.com lays it all out really well. Batman's Sun & Rising
My immediate thought was that Batman has his Sun in the 12th house, and that most superheroes do because a 12th house Sun hides their true self from the world.
The Sun is the inner you, who you truly are, and the 12th house is the house of hidden things. Planets in this house get swallowed, and with the Sun here, people can come across radically different from who they really are, especially if the rising sign is NOT the same sign as the Sun. As for the sign, I immediately gravitated to Scorpio, and no matter what, there's definitely a strong Scorpio/8th house/Pluto connection with Batman. The energy here is heavy, dark, serious, with deep emotional pain and a little rage issues. If his Sun was in the 12th house, that wouldn't come across though, especially because his rising would be Sagittarius. Sagittarius rising would fit the carefree playboy rich kid persona he presents to the world. I also like Sagittarius rising because that puts Pisces on his 4th house. From the 4th house page: Your home and family life has a direct impact on you and how you feel about yourself. There’s a strong emotional bond with your family or your home, and you need support and stability. Your home needs to be a safe place for you. You may be a bit unrealistic with your family, not seeing them as they really are. As you get older, you become more compassionate and imaginative.
That seems to fit him, with the murder of his parents having a direct impact on his identity, along with the Alfred tie, giving him a supportive home. And with Virgo on the Midheaven, that could show him having 2 jobs (since Virgo is a dual sign), the one Bruce Wayne has and the one Batman has, and shows him being a hard worker, dedicated to his jobs.
Batman's Mercury, Venus & Mars
Mercury travels closely to the Sun, so with the Scorpio Sun, I'd put his Mercury in Sagittarius. This would play more into how different he acts in public versus who he really is, because when your Mercury is in a different sign from your Sun, you seem different from how you really are. This would place Mercury in his 1st house; perfect fit for 2 reasons:
1-Mercury is dual by nature, so this can instill a dual personality - billionaire playboy by day, caped crusader by night 2-Batman has superior intellect, tons of education, knows lots of languages, a genius - how Mercurial! Mercury in the 1st house would show his mind being so important, even possibly his greatest asset. Like Mercury, Venus doesn't travel very far from the Sun, so given that and the house options, I'm choosing Venus in Capricorn. Capricorn rules your career, and Venus in Capricorn can show a workaholic, someone who dedicates themselves to their career/life path/goals (Venus in the 10th house also shows that; in Batman's case, "career/life path/goals" would be his superhero job). It also reflects his success in his regular work too. Venus in Capricorn would put Venus in the 2nd house. The 2nd house rules your finances, and Venus here can show you have all that you need, and that you can make more easily if you put in the work. The combo of Venus in Capricorn in the 2nd house can also show him inheriting the family business and being a billionaire. I considered a few options here, but am going with Mars in Aries. Mars in Aries would show all of the energy he has, working out and keeping his body in peak physical condition; that would put Mars is his 4th house (if early in sign) or 5th house, and I'd go 4th cuz the man don't party like a 5th houser. That would again put emphasis on his family (4th house is the house of family), and could show the violence (Mars) that occurred. This can also show him doing everything he can to defend Gotham (Mars in Aries is a warrior, and Gotham is his home). Mars in Aries is the natural home for Mars, so he'd have a natural way of expressing his energy. In the 4th house, it would be in the sign not on the cusp (very beginning) of that house, which is the dark side of the house. Mars would be square his Venus in Capricorn, showing difficulties with his love relationships, and putting other things ahead of love. It would be trine his Mercury, showing his mental power. I considered Scorpio as well, which would show his strong will and determination to the point of crazed obsession, and it would conjunct his Sun, which would show the energy and stamina he has. But that would put Mars in his 12th house, which in a male, can make you come across as less masculine, and not even Bruce Wayne is fem. But I suppose it's an option. Batman's Moon
This one is the tricky one. I speculated that his Sun and Moon would be at a harsh angle to one another given his internal emotional struggles. You can immediately gravitate to a square (which would be Leo or Aquarius with a Scorpio Sun), but some of the minor aspects (like quindeciles) can be even more torturous (though a quindecile might make him more self-centered).
With Leo, fire signs aren't all that emotionally deep, unless in a water house (4th, 8th, 12th). Leo Moon *could* potentially fall in his 8th house if it's early in sign, which would add more of that deep, serious energy, and waayyy tone down the happy Leo. The 9th house wouldn't fit at all (way too happy!). Fire sign moons can have temper problems and need to channel their physical energy into something, so that fits. An Aquarius Moon could make sense since Aquarius is the sign of charity, and would show his concern for the citizens of Gotham. The fact that he doesn't necessarily get personally involved with victims would point more to Aquarius than Pisces (these two signs rule helping others, but Aquarius does it in a bigger, distant way, whereas Pisces is hands-on and gets emotionally invested). It would also show his love of science and futuristic technology (ruled by Aquarius), and how he keeps his feelings to himself, trying to be aloof and emotionally-distant. His Aquarius Moon would be in the 3rd house, which rules your mind, so that would add to his intellect and gadget love. But there's not a lot of depth to Aquarius Moon in the 3rd house. So I'm not entirely sure of this sign either. Squares are internal, and oppositions tend to be external, but Batman does have tons of enemies, so perhaps a Taurus Moon is another option (Taurus opposes Scorpio). Taurus Moon doesn't get too high or too low though, staying pretty even, unless it gets pushed to the extreme, and then it gets stuck in that crazy, homicidal mood for a long time. Taurus Moon would be in the 6th house, which is the house of work, and one of the houses of service, so this actually makes a lot of sense. It would show him feeling that he must work, has to in order to feel emotionally secure in any way, and dedicate himself to his work. It also shows his service to Gotham. Another consideration with his Moon - having it at a critical or anaretic degree, which would add to his emotional torment, or as a singleton (which could be the case in Aquarius as the only air sign), which would make his emotional issues more important. I also like Saturn conjunct (feeling restricted, overburdened, responsible for everyone and everything; also the father weighs heavy on you), and/or Neptune conjunct (his parents not in his life), though that would take the singleton out of play. Batman's Lunar Nodes
I wanted to throw the Lunar Nodes in quickly, which are spiritual/karmic points, and can show the baggage you carry, your destiny in this life - that would seem pretty important for a superhero!
I wonder if his Sun is on the nodes, which would show how important his destiny and baggage is. Moon on the nodes could work as well. Actually, if the Sun were in Scorpio and the Moon in Taurus, one could be on the North Node and one could be on the South Node - that would be super superhero-y! Though if his Moon were Leo or Aquarius, it would square the nodes, which shows a block for you to reach your truest self in this life = emotional block (Moon rules emotions). Don't forget asteroid Black -
Yes, there's an asteroid named black! There are asteroids named after many of the colors, actually, and the colors you look best in or feel best in tend to be conjunct a planet in your chart. I'd bet Batman has asteroid Black on a planet in his chart, or perhaps on his Ascendant or Midheaven.

Asteroid Achilles is named after the Greek god Achilles, and it was discovered in 1906 by German astronomer Max Wolf. In the story of Achilles, he was pretty indestructible, except for that pesky part of his foot (hey, if the rest of us only had one bad body part, I think we'd all be pretty happy!).
In astrology, Achilles shows an area where we can have too much confidence or not enough confidence and it's to our peril. If we can avoid that, we can use the energy to our advantage. This can be focused on the areas of life ruled by the natal house your natal asteroid Achilles is located. Sextiles and trines by natal asteroid Achilles to the other natal bodies can make it easier for you to have balanced confidence. Squares and oppositions can make it more challenging, and you may sway one way or the other until you consciously fix that. Conjunctions by natal Achilles to other natal bodies can show whatever the body rules, you have either way too much confidence that needs to come down, or way too little and that needs to come up. Whatever the body rules can be your Achilles heel, and you have to work on that. In transit, Achilles can show where confidence needs to be improved, and where you may have an Achilles heel at the moment. This can focus on the areas of life ruled by the natal house transit Achilles is touring. Sextiles and trines by transit Achilles can make it easier to manage, while squares and oppositions might make you sway too far in one direction or the other. Conjunctions by transit Achilles can bring out major Achilles heel energy, and you have to work on controlling this, otherwise you may experience a downfall in some way. This piece by Alex Miller for The Mountain Astrologer details how transit Achilles can trigger an afflicted Achilles in your natal chart and bring your downfall. Great read! It takes about 12 years to orbit the Sun. This means you have an Achilles Return roughly every 12 years (when transit Achilles returns to the exact position it was at when you were born). The Achilles Return can be a great time to work on the Achilles heels you know you have, and try to balance confidence. How to Find Asteroid Achilles in Your Natal Chart & in Transit

ARIES JULY 2014 July is a busy month for all of us! To start the month of July, Mercury ends his retrograde in air sign Gemini on the 1st. A planet is called retrograde when it appears to be moving backward from our view here on Earth, though it isn’t actually moving backward, it just appears that way, and it can throw things off in your life. During the month of June, you could have seen problems at home or with your family, had experiences that troubled you at your very core, had a hard time communicating with others, got some bad news, or had difficulty with technology, young people, and daily travel. We’ve been in a retrograde train since December of 2013, with Venus, then Mercury, then Mars, and then Mercury again going retrograde. We’ll finally be out of the woods after the first week of July. You can start to put everything back together that may have fallen apart over the last month, and can feel like life is going a lot smoother now that it has all year. You can have more communications, conversations, share thoughts and ideas, and want to engage with others. Mercury will move into water sign Cancer on July 13th, and you’ll be more reserved in your communications, and focus more on the past, your memories, and how things impact you emotionally. You can sense what other people are feeling when they speak, even if they’re saying the complete opposite thing. You have a harder time with facts and figures, and take things in when they impact you emotionally. Mercury won’t be in Cancer for very long though, quickly moving into fellow fire sign Leo to end the month, on July 31st. You’ll feel more boisterous and want to be the one getting all of the attention in conversations. You’ll be lively and loud when you speak, and want to have fun with people, laughing and joking around. |
