I've gotten you started with how Black Moon Lilith influences you in the natal chart, so now we move to transit Black Moon Lilith. A transit position in astrology is the one that's currently moving through the Zodiac. As it moves, it goes through the 12 houses in your natal chart, lighting up the areas of life each house rules in its own way, and coming to certain angles to your natal planets and positions, which can bring beneficial or challenging energy to that planet or point. Influence of Transit Black Moon Lilith
Lilith stood up for herself (to un-woke Adam), so in transit, as a baseline, transit Black Moon Lilith can show where you may stand up, speak out, maybe scream and shout! (at least if you're feeling victimized, traumatized, or boxed in) If you've been holding something back, that can come out with Lilith. Speak now!
This tends to be most shown through the areas of life ruled by the house Black Moon Lilith is touring in your natal chart. You can be a lot more outspoken about what you really think and feel and experience. This can also come out with Black Moon Lilith conjunct, square, or opposing a natal planet. Then you might get a little heated about it too! But it's not just for the sake of screaming and shouting. It's for the sake of trying to make seen what needs to be seen, and make people think and be more introspective so something may change for the better. We may push for honesty, revealing reality to accomplish this. Remember that Black Moon Lilith is also a little witchy, so under Lilith transits, we may be more in tune with our inner mystic (and this can come out in the areas of life ruled by the house Lilith is touring). Under conjunctions by Lilith, that inner mystic melds with our true being. Under squares and oppositions, the mystic may come roaring out, fighting with us to get us to see something, or challenging us to embrace that side of ourselves when we're trying to be a little too practical or exert a little too much control. We need to release a little of that control (or a lot!) and trust the mystic. Lilith transits can be great times to turn inward and start something that sets us down a new path spiritually, in a personal way, or professionally - whatever is being touched will usually set off which road you go down. This may be challenging, even painful, and we may want more understanding from those around us for what we're going through. There can be a little Plutonian energy to this though, and we likely have to do it on our own, and we have to make some deep transformation. That's much more important under conjunctions. To note about transit Black Moon Lilith: There are two positions for Black Moon Lilith, True/Oscillating, which is the exact position, and Mean, which is the averaged out position. Lilith's movement is suuuuuuper wonky, so both are used in natal astrology. In predictive astrology, you may want to stick with Mean Lilith in transit because it can be incredibly difficult to track her movement in the True/Oscillating position (and can go back and forth between signs for a period of time, so you can easily have 1 aspect go exact like 9 times!). While some will say that only True/Oscillating BML matters in the natal and not Mean BML, I don't find that to be the case in transit. I pretty much only follow transit Mean BML. The standard ephemeris on astro.com includes Mean BML so you can use that to track Lilith's movement (if you want to see the True/Oscillating positions for yourself, you can create an ephemeris on astro.com - go to the Free Horoscopes section, click on 'Ephemeris', then click on 'Ephemerides for other objects' and type 'h13' in the 'Manual entry' box' and generate). Here come the next set of eclipses for 2019! We start early with a solar eclipse in Cancer on July 2nd (3:16PM ET). Cancer rules the home and family, so we can feel extra focused on matters of the home and family. We can make improvements at home, move, spend more time with family, and expand our family. We may want to expand our support systems, and be more supportive as well. Cancer rules our emotions, so we can be more in tune with what we feel, and others as well. Cancer is the bottom of the Zodiac wheel, so we may be focused on something that we want to start from the ground up, the foundation of something, or "getting back" to something. We can get to the core, and we can understand the roots. This can be a good time to start from the bottom with something and see it rise over time. This eclipse is sextile (positive aspect, 2 signs away) transit (moving) Uranus in Taurus. This can help us to be more independent and push for what we want, to make changes that can have a positive impact, and to think outside of the box a little bit. Cancer normally doesn't want to go outside of the box at all, but Uranus can help make us feel a little more comfortable with it. This solar eclipse occurs at 10 degrees 37 minutes Cancer. The aspects this eclipse can make are: Conjunction: 5 degrees 37 minutes - 15 degrees 37 minutes Cancer Semisextile: 8 degrees 37 minutes - 12 degrees 37 minutes Gemini or Leo Sextile: 5 degrees 37 minutes - 15 degrees 37 minutes Taurus or Virgo Square: 5 degrees 37 minutes - 15 degrees 37 minutes Aries or Libra Trine: 5 degrees 37 minutes - 15 degrees 37 minutes Scorpio or Pisces Quincunx: 8 degrees 37 minutes - 12 degrees 37 minutes Sagittarius or Aquarius Opposition: 5 degrees 37 minutes - 15 degrees 37 minutes Capricorn Then we have a lunar eclipse on July 16th (5:38PM ET) in Capricorn, and this can be some super reaping of what we've sown. Capricorn rules goals and ambitions, and we can see the results of things we've done with lunar eclipses in big ways. We can make major progress or achieve something, or we can experience failure and loss. It mostly depends on how we've been handling things. Some may fall from a high place (and a long fall it may be), while some can thrive. We can have extra responsibilities, more on our plates, and we have to take things seriously. We need to stay on focus, stick to plan, and not become reckless, impatient, or irresponsible. This lunar eclipse is conjunct (aligned with) transit Pluto in Capricorn, so we can be much more intense and passionate. What we're interested in, we can throw ourselves into, and it's a great time for a transformation of something for the better. If we're holding back or feeling frustrated, we can lash our irrationally and full of rage, so try to have a healthy outlet for emotions instead of bottling things up. This lunar eclipse occurs at 24 degrees 4 minutes Capricorn. The aspects this lunar eclipse makes are: Conjunction: 19 degrees 4 minutes - 29 degrees 4 minutes Capricorn Semisextile: 22 degrees 4 minutes - 26 degrees 4 minutes Sagittarius or Aquarius Sextile: 19 degrees 4 minutes - 29 degrees 4 minutes Scorpio or Pisces Square: 19 degrees 4 minutes - 29 degrees 4 minutes Aries or Libra Trine: 19 degrees 4 minutes - 29 degrees 4 minutes Taurus or Virgo Quincunx: 22 degrees 4 minutes - 26 degrees 4 minutes Gemini or Leo Opposition: 19 degrees 4 minutes - 29 degrees 4 minutes Cancer And we'll have a second new moon in July! To end the month on the 31st (11:11PM ET), this new moon occurs in Leo and tries to bring some positive energy into this serious mess (and the eclipses might be a little messy with Mercury also retrograde in July!). Leo wants to focus on the good, the happy, and not get stuck in the serious and boring. Big yawn! Though if there's plenty of drama, that can surely make Leo happy! Leo is great creative energy, so that's traditionally the best way to use Leo energy. Focus on creative projects and ventures that you can work on, and use this as an outlet for your emotions as well (helps with the frustrations). We may want more attention and we may get it, and we can be more comfortable with it (though may want more!). This new moon is widely square (hard aspect, 3 signs away) Uranus in Taurus, with Uranus slowing and readying to turn retrograde August 11th. So rebellious energy may be high, we may want more independence and push for it, and we can rage against norms. Try not to give in to impulse! This new moon occurs at 8 degrees 36 minutes Leo. The major aspects the new moon can make are: Conjunction: 6 degrees 36 minutes - 10 degrees 36 minutes Leo Sextile: 6 degrees 36 minutes - 10 degrees 36 minutes Gemini or Libra Square: 6 degrees 36 minutes - 10 degrees 36 minutes Taurus or Scorpio Trine: 6 degrees 36 minutes - 10 degrees 36 minutes Aries or Sagittarius Opposition: 6 degrees 36 minutes - 10 degrees 36 minutes Aquarius *Note that solar eclipse occur with new moons and lunar eclipses occur with full moons, and their impact lasts for 6 months before/after. Suggested Reading: New & Full Moons page for interpretations Neptune is the planet of imagination, spirituality, and intuition. Neptune is in tune with the subtle energies all around us and within us. Neptune has a delicate touch, and is sensitive, sweet, and compassionate. But when Neptune isn't operating very well, that imagination and sensitivity goes into overdrive! That's when illusion, delusion, and victimization kick in. What does it mean if a planet is in retrograde?
A planet is called retrograde when it appears to be moving backward from our view here on Earth (it isn't actually moving backward, only looks that way because of the way the planets move in relation to one another). Neptune is retrograde for almost half of every year.
What does it mean when Neptune is in retrograde?
When Neptune is retrograde currently, this tends to fill our lives with the very well-known Neptunian fog. The fog fills our heads, our hearts, our souls. We become more easily confused and conflicted, uncertain with our path, our decisions, our actions, our feelings, our ideas. With Neptune being the natural ruler of Pisces, any Pisces areas of your natal chart can get hit by this energy. If you have a Pisces Sun, Moon, or Rising, you tend to feel it most. Normally, when the ruler of your Sun, Moon, or Rising is retrograde, you feel off in a subtle way throughout the retrograde period. When it's Neptune? It's way more than subtly off! That fog rolls in and you're way more trippy than usual.
For everyone, the impact tends to be focused on the areas of life ruled by the house Neptune tours while Neptune is in retrograde. The matters that house rules can become clouded, obscured, and difficult to get a firm grip on. Extra caution needs to be exercised, more care needs to be taken, and often, more time is needed. If Neptune turns retrograde or direct aspecting any of your natal planets, you get this energy directed at you in a very intense way; sextiles and trines can turn it more positive while conjunctions, squares, and oppositions can make it more difficult (though all of the aspects have potential for some fog with Neptune!). Since Neptune is at home in Pisces, this just reinforces the energy, which can make us extra imaginative, compassionate, intuitive, and sweet - but also give us the extra fog! So for as long as Neptune is in Pisces, it's going to be a little extra. With Neptune, what usually helps the most is having a strong connection to your intuition. When you can trust your instincts, this can guide you through the fog. That makes it important for all of us to work on that connection so we can get through the fog each year without being mortified by what it was obscuring when it lifts. It can also help to keep yourself grounded throughout the retrograde. It’s so easy to get sucked into the daydreams and fantasies, and let the fog take over. Grounding yourself can be of great help, and this can actually serve to improve your intuition too. Suggested Reading: Transit Neptune page for interpretations The basics: A retrograde occurs when a planet appears to be moving backwards from our vantage point here on Earth. It isn't actually moving backwards, it just appears that way. Mercury turns retrograde most often, about 3-4 times per year, and lasts for several weeks. When a planet retrogrades, what that planet rules tends to be thrown off, along with what the sign it's retrograding in rules. With Mercury retrograde, we experience a shadow and a storm. The shadow period starts when Mercury first hits the point in the Zodiac it will turn direct at, and ends when it last hits the point in the Zodiac it will turn retrograde at. Most people don't feel the effects of Mercury retrograde until it enters the storm period though. The storm period of Mercury retrograde is when Mercury is moving at its slowest, less than 40 minutes per day. Mercury is a fast-moving planet and hates it when he's moving slowly. There's usually two storm periods, one around the time Mercury turns retrograde, and one around when it turns direct. This Mercury retrograde begins on July 7th at 7:14PM ET and ends on July 31st at 11:58PM ET. The shadow period is June 23rd - August 15th. The first storm period is June 29th - July 19th, and second storm period is July 23rd - August 7th. Here comes another round of Mercury madness! This Mercury retrograde begins in fire sign Leo, which can create some serious drama and theatricality. We can turn mountains into molehills with Mercury retrograde in Leo, so we need to watch ourselves. Not cool to be so desperate for attention that you go crazy over nothing! If you’re feeling like you need attention, maybe ask yourself why that is. Leo is the sign ruling love, so we may feel we need more love and affection. This isn’t necessarily bad, as long as we’re controlling ourselves (and not looking for love in all of the wrong places!). Be good and considerate of others. Who and what we love comes under Leo’s domain, so we may want more time with loved ones or experience issues in love relationships, and we may want more time to play and do the things we love, or may feel that we just don’t have enough time for it and keep wishing for a vacay. With Leo, creative outlets can be very helpful, so try to inject creativity into whatever you do. Mercury doesn’t retrograde entirely in Leo though, going back into water sign Cancer on July 19th (3:06AM ET). This can bring out super emotional energy, and we need to take care of our emotional needs. BUT we also need to be considerate of the emotions of others, and not get totally stuck in our own feelings that we ignore everyone else’s. That can create problems we don’t need! Comfort and support, familiarity and what we know best can be more important, and we may stick to that as much as we can, yet feel like the outside world is trying to push us away from that, and it makes us feel even more shaky internally. Try not to lash out, and have healthy outlets for your emotions, and be more flexible in life. We may feel that something bottoms out around this time, that we have to get back to basics in some way, or focus on the foundation of something that is shaky. We may have more issues at home or with family to address, and can reconnect with family or make improvements to our living situations, or go back to places we’ve lived before. During the retrograde, we’ll have a lunar eclipse in Capricorn on July 16th, and when Mercury retrograde ends, Mercury will be opposite the eclipse point (and it’s reeeally close). So the end of the Mercury retrograde may trigger the eclipse, and factor in that it’s so close to when the eclipse actually is, we can feel this energy crazy strong! We need to be careful with emotional energy, and watch ourselves very carefully. There may be some issues with Cancer/Capricorn that play out in the world, and we need to make sure we’re finding balance between the two energies instead of letting them fight each other. While Mercury is retrograde, Mercury will make 3 major aspects, first a conjunction (aligned with) with transit Mars on July 8th (6:27PM ET). This is the day after the retrograde starts, so it starts conjunct transit Mars. This brings super high energy, super impulsiveness, rash, impatient, reckless. We need a positive outlet for the energy at the start of the retrograde, otherwise we may experience accidents (I’m actually a little worried about an accident or some violence!). The retrograde also starts square (hard aspect, 3 signs away) transit Uranus in Taurus, but this isn’t exact at any point, only in orb. But that adds to the wonky energy to start the retrograde, and makes it more important for us to be careful, cautious, and in control of our energy. Mercury will make a conjunction to the Sun on July 21st (8:34AM ET). This is called the inferior conjunction, and can be a good point in the retrograde to get started with something new that you focus on for the next 6 weeks or so. Mercury retrograde also conjuncts Venus in Cancer on July 24th (8:26PM ET), and this can bring pleasant energy, help us focus on the people in our lives, or make compromise, balance, and diplomacy more important. Watch for stubborness, vacillation, or overindulgence. Mercury retrograde will end opposite transit Pluto in Capricorn, so this may bring out power struggles and fighting. We may feel like we’re struggling for control of something, and want to tear something down. We need to avoid trying to dominate and control, and watch for hatred, anger, and rage. I’ll be honest, I’m not super liking the energy of this retrograde at all! I’m very concerned about accidents and violence. Cancer is ruler of the homeland as well (your country). Sooo . . . Mercury will be at a critical degree, points of critical energy, July 23rd - 25th, at 26 degrees Cancer. There can be some extra hot energy at that time, especially emotionally. But that can pale in comparison to when Mercury is at 29 degrees Cancer July 19th - 20th! 29 degrees is the last degree of any sign and called the anaretic degree. It’s a point of crisis energy, and with retrogrades, tends to trigger some crazy energy (and sometimes crazy events). So everybody, just stay calm, for crying out loud! The retrograde begins at 4 degrees Leo, so those of you Leos born July 25th - 30th can feel the start of this retrograde most. The retrograde ends at 23 degrees Cancer, so those of you Cancerians born July 13th - 19th can feel the end of the retrograde most. For the rest of you, check the house(s) Mercury will be retrograding in of your own natal chart, and any aspects Mercury will make during its retrograde to your natal planets, to fully understand how it will impact you personally. If you have Mercury retrograde in your natal or progressed chart, you may not feel the worst of this. Those individuals generally don't experience the difficulties of the retrograde because it feels more natural to them. Of course, chances are everyone else around them doesn't have the same aspect, so they can still experience difficulties brought on by others.
