Memory & Astrology
Forgetful? Some of us are elephants who never forget, and some of us would forget our heads if they weren't attached. What can show this astrologically?
Bring on Saturn and the Moon for long-term memory
The best, longest memories go to Capricorn, Saturn, and the 10th house and Cancer, the Moon, and the 4th house. How can they show you have a great memory? Look for:
- multiple planets in Capricorn, Cancer, the 10th house, or the 4th house
- a prominent Saturn or Moon (like conjunct the Sun, in the 1st house, on an angle, a singleton, anaretic)
These positions can especially show you having great long-term memory. This can especially be true with Saturn, Capricorn, and the 10th house. You may also be someone who tries to actually keep track of things, and this can help you with your good memory. Think journals, memory books, photo books for every event, etc.
Saturn, Capricorn, and the 10th house can almost feel like it’s your responsibility to have a good long-term memory. Not surprisingly, this trio rules historians!
With Cancer, the 4th house, and the Moon, it's especially if something impacts you emotionally. It's hard to forget anything then. This is because the Moon, Cancer, and the 4th house all connect to your emotions, and anything that leaves an emotional imprint sticks to your memory.
The funny thing with that is, if it doesn’t impact you emotionally, you may forget it super fast! The emotions are super tied to your memory, so without them in play, you may not care to remember.
Short-term memory in astrology:
Short-term memory is ruled by Gemini, Mercury, and the 3rd house. Multiple planets in Gemini or the 3rd house or a prominent natal Mercury can show a good short-term memory. BUT this trio can also leave you scatterbrained, so you forget things very quickly.
With this trio, you’ll want to keep track of things as much as possible, because you may be apt to forget things long-term. You’ll want to keep notes, journal, have calendars and schedulers, etc.
If you have a good balance of Saturn, Capricorn, and the 10th house with Mercury, Gemini, and the 3rd house, you’re likely to have the best memory of all as both your short-term and long-term memory are solid.
And what about the astrology for having a bad memory?
Saturn, the Moon, Mercury, or 3rd, 4th, or 10th house cusps at a critical or anaretic degree can show difficulty with memory, forgetting everything, or taking in too much.
Since Saturn is restrictive, if Saturn is square or opposite (the challenging aspects) your natal Sun, Moon, Mercury, 3rd house cusp, or 3rd house ruler, this may also restrict your memory.
Neptune is a hard aspect to Saturn, Mercury, Sun, or Moon, in the 1st, 3rd, or 10th houses, or very prominent in the chart can also make memory difficult since Neptune rules illusion, delusion, and the mental fog that gets in the way or remembering things.
With Neptune, it’s important to try and ground the mind, otherwise it just gets lost in imagination.
