A new year is coming, and as we get to the end of 2021 and start thinking about 2022, many like to hit the ground running once we start a new year. But unfortunately, that likely won't be the case when it comes to 2022. The astrology isn't really there for it! Blame the Retrogrades for the Slow Start to 2022
It's a very simple reason why it may feel like a slow start to 2022 astrologically - retrogrades! A planet is called retrograde when it appears to be moving backward through the Zodiac from our view here on Earth; it isn't actually moving backward, and just appears that way. Normal motion is forward, so when planets are retrograde, they tend to feel off.
Venus retrogrades starting December 19th 2021, and this retrograde lasts until January 29th 2022, so we move into 2022 already with Venus retrograde. Venus is a personal planet, so we tend to feel this retrograde strongly. Venus retrograde also tends to slow us down anyway, and makes us lazier and more indulgent. Venus is the natural ruler of both Taurus and Libra, but with the retrograde in earth sign Capricorn, it's more likely to feel like Taurus energy - lazy, stubborn, and stuck. Just bring on the chocolate! Add to this dwarf planet Ceres (who's argued to rule Taurus) who is already retrograde (since October 8th), and retrogrades back into Taurus December 1st until it ends January 14th. 2022. This adds to the laziness and indulgence, and we just may not feel very motivated to get out and do anything. And, Uranus is also currently retrograde in Taurus (since August 19th), lasting until January 18th, so it's very slow, sluggish, almost immovable energy. Then there is Mercury, to cap it all off, who will turn retrograde January 14th until February 3rd 2022. Mercury keeps the energy slow as we're trying to come out of the other 3 retrogrades, and we're just struggling with getting things off of the ground at all. So what does this mean? We're probably not going to feel like 2022 REALLY starts until February, likely mid-to-late February 2022. Slow start, indeed! So what should I do about the slow start to 2022?
This doesn't mean you need to give up already on any of your resolutions for the new year, but it does mean you may need to prepare for putting them on hold for a couple more months. Don't give in to frustration if you encounter blocks or simply can't even start for a little while longer. As everything does, this too shall pass.
Retrogrades are great energy for reflecting, turning inward, and releasing. Make use of the time and energy for being more introspective, going through your plans more thoroughly, and coming to terms with past issues that you can move on from now. All of this helps you to hit the ground running once opportunities do open up for you. There is some very lovely energy waiting on the other side of this with Jupiter moving back into Pisces, joining Neptune, and the two linking on April 12th (at 23 degrees Pisces). Mars moves into Pisces 2 days later, and we get a lovely Pisces stellium chock full of energy to work with. So do look forward to that! Also, all of this retrograde energy is good for one other thing - second chances. If one of your goals is to try again with something, pursue an old opportunity, create another shot at something you failed with or never got going, then this is actually perfect energy for that. So, definitely give it your top focus as 2022 starts! One extra note for those of you who have Mercury and Venus retrograde natally: This would be your time to shine! Instead of a slow start, you're the one zipping through all of the challenges and making things happen with minimal effort. This is your natural energy, so run with it. You can assess what the transit (moving) planets are doing, and this can help you pick the right date for major milestones - like getting married! But not every astrological event is positive for having your wedding date. Some can show major potential problems, for not just the wedding, but the marriage! So, let's review 3 different astrology times you want to avoid for your wedding date. Why is it important?
The moment you get married is actually a chart that can be used for your relationship. Your natal chart is a snapshot of the planets and other bodies in the Zodiac at the moment you were born, and is a blueprint for your personality and life. The moment you get married creates a natal chart for your marriage, and can show the good, the bad, and the ugly!
Because of this, you want to be as careful as you can be to avoid the REALLY challenging astrology. You can't avoid everything, but you can try to avoid the worst! Bad Wedding Astrology #1: Retrogrades
A planet or body is called retrograde when it appears to be moving backward through the Zodiac; it's not actually moving backward, but just looks that way. Normal motion is forward, so the energy can get thrown off.
Retrogrades are traditionally challenging times for starting anything new. So of course, you usually want to avoid getting married under a retrograde! Not all are created equal though. The one you pretty much absolutely want to avoid is Venus retrograde. Why? Venus is the planetary ruler of love! So, it's pretty much rule number 1 to avoid getting married during Venus retrograde. The exception will be if both of you have Venus retrograde in your natal or progressed charts. This means the energy is natural for you, so it can actually be beneficial in that case. Mercury and Mars retrogrades are the other dicey ones. Like with Venus, if both of you have Mercury or Mars retrograde in your natal or progressed charts, this can be beneficial instead. But if you don't, you may want to try to avoid it. Getting married under Mercury retrograde can signal issues of communication (the most important part of a successful relationship!), and getting married under Mars retrograde can signal issues with your sex life and arguments. You should also try to not only avoid when they're actually retrograde, but also before. This is because once you progress the wedding date chart, they will turn retrograde at some point. And honestly, that can be harder to overcome than just getting married while it's already retrograde! If you're in a situation where you can only choose between just before or while it's retrograde, go with while it's retrograde. Retrogrades aren't a 100% signal that the relationship will be challenged, but you do have to be prepared for things to be different from what you thought they would be, and for some extra bumps in the road. Preemptive measures like couples counseling can go a long way. There needs to be a lot of maintenance done on your relationship. As for the other planets retrograde, just try to avoid right before they start or end a retrograde because again, they'll change direction when the wedding chart is progressed. If you'd like at least 30 years or wedded bliss, try to be at least 30 days out (1 day = 1 year). Bad Wedding Astrology #2: Void-of-Course Moon
The Moon moves the fastest, traveling through the entire Zodiac in less than one month. When the Moon makes the last major aspect before leaving the sign it's in to the other transit planets, that means the Moon is now void-of-course, and will remain void until it moves into a new sign.
The void Moon is a time when the Moon is wandering, not necessarily aimlessly since it is moving toward a new Zodiac sign, but a bit shiftless. This means when the Moon is void-of-course, we're kind of acting like that, and it seen as a bad time for starting anything new. We tend to lack the energy and drive, and it's said to be a good time for anything you don't want to see through because nothing will come of it. You can see why this would be a challenge for a wedding date! Thankfully void Moons usually only last a few hours, but they do come up several times each week. The exception to this is if both of you have any planets at 29 degrees, which is the anaretic degree. It's the very last degree of any Zodiac sign (each sign is made up of 30 degrees), so when you have a planet at 29 degrees, the transit Moon is going to hit it right before it moves into a new sign. This means that for you personally, you're not as low energy as the rest of us. If both of you have this, then you can work through the void Moon. If you don't, and you have to do it during a void-of-course Moon, then try to opt for a time that gives you a strong Mars. Mars is the planet of energy and drive, so that can help stir up the necessary energy that may be lacking during a void Moon. Bad Wedding Astrology #3: Hard Neptune
This one is a personal aspect. When transit Neptune is making a conjunction (alignment), square (3 signs away), or opposition (exactly opposite) to your natal chart, that is not a great time to be getting married.
Why? Because Neptune is the planet of illusion and delusion, and puts rose-colored glasses on us. We think we're seeing things clearly, but we're not, and we usually don't realize this until after the aspect has passed. Then reality sinks in, and we have to deal with the consequences of not seeing things as they were right in front of us. That means getting married under hard Neptune might be showing you're not seeing your partner realistically. They may not be as great as you think, not even close! And by the time you see that, you've already made it official. This is strongest when it's to your natal Sun (self), Moon (emotions), Venus (relationships), Ascendant-Descendant (axis of relationships), 5th house cusp or ruler (house of love), or 7th house ruler (relationships). If you can't avoid it, try to counteract it with Saturn. If you also have beneficial Saturn aspects (sextiles and trines) at the same time, this can help bring some reality into the mix and ground you. Staying grounded becomes super important, and you need to focus on connecting to the tangible.
