Saturn is getting ready to end its retrograde, and will move on in the sign of Aquarius until entering Pisces in March 2023. What does this turn direct have in store for us? Saturn in Astrology
Saturn is the planet of responsibility and lessons. Saturn is the teacher, and sometimes teaches those lessons in a very harsh way. Humans tend to be stubborn, and that annoys Saturn!
In transit, Saturn restricts. When this is beneficial, the restriction streamlines and makes things easier for us; when this is challenging, the restriction makes us feel overwhelmed and held back. What is direct in astrology?
A planet or body in astrology is called retrograde when it appears to be moving backward through the Zodiac from our view here on Earth. When the planet or body is no longer appearing to move backward, this is called turning direct, and the planet or body is now or will be moving forward.
Most planets/bodies move forward as their normal motion, so this can be helpful. The issue when a planet or body is turning direct (or retrograde) is it slows way down and hovers in the same spot, called stationing. This can be frustrating because we're not really moving in any way. We're not going backward or forward, we're stalled and waiting for things to pick back up. If the planet/body is making any aspects, these aspects are intensified because they are continuous while the planet/body is stalled. This Saturn direct ends in Aquarius, and it's the final pone in Aquarius until Saturn comes back to Aquarius in a few decades. Saturn will now be moving forward freely until it moves into Pisces in March 2023.
This means that once we're moving forward, we may do aso at a brisk pace. Not too brisk though, since Mars retrograde starts in a week! With Saturn moving forward, we can feel less restricted and less overwhelmed, and can have a better view of our goals, our plans, and our direction. We can make use of discipline and use a practical, realistic approach. Now, this Saturn direct is square, which is a challenging aspect, Uranus in Taurus. This aspect was the dominant one in 2021 that led a lot of people to make some big changes in their lives, especially professionally. This aspect doesn't go exact like it did last year, however it's been in effect since late August, and remains in effect until mid-November. Funny how last year, we had the "Great Resignation", and we're hearing now about "quiet quitting". How apt! Our professional lives got the biggest impact since Saturn is the natural ruler of career and Uranus is in Taurus, sign of money, so there's been a lot of shaking things up there. But really, it can be anything that has become the status quo where we feel stuck and need to break out with changemaker Uranus. Saturn is in the sign of Aquarius, ruler of the future, our hopes and dreams, so the future we were planning has likely changed quite a bit since Saturn has been in Aquarius (that might be an understatement). As we're nearing the end of this transit, this is when Saturn likes to reward us for the things we did right and the lessons we learned, so we may see some progress being made to improve the future in this new mold.
