Here comes May! With the month of May, we have a new moon in Taurus and the first eclipse for 2021, a lunar eclipse in Sagittarius. What is a new moon?
A new moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact same position in the Zodiac (called a conjunction). New moons are related to beginnings, have high energy, and are enthusiastic.
What is a lunar eclipse?
A full moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact opposite positions in the Zodiac (called an opposition). Full moons are related to endings, culminations, and are emotional energy. Lunar eclipses occur when a full moon is within 18 1/2 degrees of the Lunar Nodes (the points in the Moon's orbit where the Moon crosses the ecliptic).
New Moon in Taurus: May 11th 2021 (3PM ET/12PM PT)
With a new moon in Taurus, we can slow things down and try to catch our breath, and we can benefit from taking our time. We want to be certain before we take action, and once we do move forward, we can see it through to the end no matter what. We have staying power, but we have to take the first step first!
Taurus governs our values and what we feel is worthy, so we can give more attention to what we value, try to live more accordingly, and can focus on new values that reflect who we're growing into or who we want to become. Inequities may be highlighted, and we can focus on changing that. Taurus is a money ruler, so there can be financial developments around this time, and we may focus on making important financial decisions or transactions, improving our financial approach, or stimulating finances in some way (can be good for second jobs, side gigs, and profitable hobbies). Stability and security is also ruled by Taurus, so we may work on trying to improve the stability and security of life as we go forward. We may be less drawn to chaos, and more focused on how we can keep calm and be more present. Grounding can help with stability and security. This new moon is sextile (positive aspect, 2 signs away) transit (moving) Neptune in Pisces, and this can increase imagination, make us more compassionate, and we can do more to help others. With Taurus, this may be financially, helping with stability/security, or through our values. The new moon occurs at 21 degrees 18 minutes Taurus. Aspects to this new moon are: Conjunction: 19 degrees 18 minutes - 23 degrees 18 minutes Taurus Sextile: 19 degrees 18 minutes - 23 degrees 18 minutes Cancer or Pisces Square: 19 degrees 18 minutes - 23 degrees 18 minutes Leo or Aquarius Trine: 19 degrees 18 minutes - 23 degrees 18 minutes Virgo or Capricorn Opposition: 19 degrees 18 minutes - 23 degrees 18 minutes Scorpio Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius: May 26th 2021 (7:14AM ET/4:14AM PT)
Here comes the first eclipse for 2021! The lunar eclipse in Sagittarius can stimulate our beliefs in a big way. We can fight for what we believe in passionately, and defend our beliefs whole-heartedly. This can be problematic if we're not being open, automatically jumping to conclusions, or taking dumb risks. Beliefs can be a great motivator when used productively, coupled with informed decisions and smart actions. But lunar eclipses tend to be highly emotional, so we may have a hard time being objective and logical, and instead jump to action without thinking things through or respecting others. When riled up, take some moments to calm down before rushing into anything.
Sagittarius rules space and freedom, so we may crave a lot more space and freedom than we've had. Again, we need to be smart about this, and not just do the Sag thing and run for the hills. The smarter thing to do is to find space within limitations, rather than ignoring responsibilities and being reckless. Save pushing boundaries for the limitations that truly need to be torn down, otherwise there may not be enough gas in the tank for the stuff that really matters and deserves the attention. Higher education, publishing, public speaking, and teaching all fall under Sagittarius, so this can be a good eclipse to finish a course of study or something that you're teaching, putting your work out there in the public, doing marketing and advertising, and communicating in a broader way that connects with people emotionally. This lunar eclipse makes one aspect, a square (hard aspect, 3 signs away) to Jupiter, who is freshly in Pisces for this eclipse (starts May 13th). Jupiter is the natural ruler of Sagittarius, so we may struggle a bit more with the Sagittarius energy, and can be really lazy and lackadaisical with it, or expand on it too much and go to extremes with everything. Jupiter is the planet of expansion, so we have to try to find some middle ground with everything so we don't go too far in any direction. I will also say, I'm not a fan of flying around this eclipse! Sagittarius and Jupiter rule flight; 3 days before, Saturn (a death planet) turns retrograde, and 3 days later, Mercury (a tech ruler) turns retrograde, and retrogrades throw things off. If you can avoid flying at the end of May/start of June, maybe do it! The lunar eclipse occurs at 5 degrees 26 minutes Sagittarius. The aspects to this lunar eclipse are: Conjunction: 0 degrees 26 minutes - 10 degrees 26 minutes Gemini Semisextile: 3 degrees 26 minutes - 7 degrees 26 minutes Taurus or Cancer Sextile: 0 degrees 26 minutes - 10 degrees 26 minutes Aries or Leo Square: 0 degrees 26 minutes - 10 degrees 26 minutes Virgo or Pisces Trine: 0 degrees 26 minutes - 10 degrees 26 minutes Libra or Aquarius Quincunx: 3 degrees 26 minutes - 7 degrees 26 minutes Scorpio or Capricorn Opposition: 0 degrees 26 minutes - 10 degrees 26 minutes Sagittarius Suggested Reading: The New & Full Moons page for interpretations Comments are closed.
