A full moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are exactly opposing one another in the zodiac. It tends to signal a time of endings, culminations, and things coming to fruition. A new moon occurs when when the transit Sun and Moon are in the exact same spot in the zodiac. It tends to signal a time of new opportunities, growth, and optimism.
January 9th 2012 Full Moon in Cancer
A full moon occurs on January 9th at 2:30AM ET at 18 degrees 25 minutes of Cancer. Cancer rules the home and family. This is a good Moon to finish projects at home that have been taking some time or you've started but put off finishing. Dust off the hammer! Resolve any issues with the family at this time, and get things off your chest with them. If you need to cut ties, you can cut them now. A full moon in a water sign is more emotional, so we'll all be feeling a little more moody and touchy than normal. You know the joke that everyone's a little crazier during full moons? Watch your grumpy tone, and don't take other people's grumpiness to heart. Those with a Cancer Sun or Moon between 16 and 20 degrees or Cancer rising will likely feel the effects of this Moon most.
January 23rd 2012 New Moon in Aquarius
A new moon occurs on January 23rd at 2:39AM ET at 2 degrees 41 minutes of Aquarius. This is the perfect time to do something on a whim that's totally different from what you'd normally do. Aquarius loves making a big change to flip things upside-down. This is a good Moon to get involved in causes, so do something for charity. You can also join a group during this Moon, as Aquarius rules group activities. This Moon squares a retrograding Jupiter, so we may not be feeling as optimistic as normal (or, we may be feeling *too* optimistic). This Moon also sextiles Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius, so it's a Moon at home with itself, and it's a great time to really play up what it rules. Those with an Aquarius Sun or Moon between 0 and 4 degrees or a late Capricorn/early Aquarius rising will likely feel the effects of this Moon most.
Want to know what the Ascendant sign for your Lunar Return Chart may mean? Read on:
You’re full of energy and have much to do, and you go through all of it at record speed. You get done with things quickly and move on to the next without a moments pause. Just make sure you’re actually getting things done and not just growing impatient and wanting to immediately go on to the next thing.
Nothing can stop you once you get going. You’re focused like a laser and can’t be deviated from your course. You’re practical and you stick to your guns, and you’re not going to rush through things, preferring to take your time.
There can be lots to choose from for you, and it may overwhelm you. Let your mind get you out of any trouble and always remember the truth. You can understand all the little things going on everywhere, and it may confuse you.
You may need to try and find middle ground this month otherwise you’ll sway between extreme emotional moods that hold you back. Try to remain calm and keep some semblance of stability.
You’re in a friendly mood with everybody and can have a good time anytime. You’re enthusiastic and can get things done through those good-natured feelings. Just make sure you don’t let your good mood overrule logic.
Everything that you’re tasked with gets done and you won’t leave out any of the details. You want plenty of time for preparation, otherwise you may feel things are getting done without proper planning.
Bringing about harmony will be this month’s theme, and you’ll keep changing things until you find that perfect balance. It may seem like things are made even more chaotic at first, but you know what you’re doing to put things right.
Things may seem to be hidden from you during this period, and you don’t really know what’s going on. Power struggles may come about, but try not to engage. Even if you don’t feel it, changes are being made.
You seem much larger during this period, with your personality being more grandiose. Spend lots of time in good company, though they may only be for fun and not anyone you’re actually close to. Energy is high, and communicating is geared towards easy subjects. You don’t want anything that’s a downer.
Working hard towards your goals and trying to attain success and higher status comes with this period. You may seem more practical and desire respect and recognition. You may be more distant.
This could be a month where unusual things are going on, things you wouldn’t have guessed and surprise you every time. Of course, you may also find yourself reacting in ways that are unusual and surprising too.
You’re more perceptive about what’s going on this month, and you can feel the slightest vibration shifts. Instincts are strong, but you can be swayed easily. Don’t let others take advantage of you, because compassion will be high.
There are many minor aspects in astrology, and two of them are the quinqueundecim (163 degrees) and the quindecile (165 degrees). The orb of influence for these minor aspects is under two degrees, usually about one degree, so if you have two points 164 degrees apart, they are BOTH quinqueundecim and quindecile.
Why am I highlighting this aspect? Because this could possibly be the most difficult of all positions to have two points at, especially two personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars). A lot of attention is paid to the quindecile as being an incredibly difficult aspect, but having your planets 164 degrees apart means you also have to deal with the quinqueundecim, an overlooked aspect that isn't any kind of walk in the park.
What's my experience with this aspect? I have my Sun and Moon at 164 degrees apart. Yeah, that's basically the worst, lucky me! It creates an interesting dynamic, for sure. With the quindecile, you'll see the word "unrelenting" used a lot. It's obsessive. It's like Scorpio on steroids. But it's got a focus - unfortunately, when it's your Sun and Moon the focus is all on you, and that'll drive you bonkers. With the quinqueundecim, especially between the personal planets, it shows someone who had some sort of disruption or was removed from society for some time and they must forgive, transform themselves, and help others with their experience. It'll just usually take a while to get there. A lot of people who wind up in relationships where they are trapped, who have parents who controlled their whole lives, or who suffer from accidents/illness that leave them confined have a prominent quinqueundecim.
Just because you have two points at difficult aspect to one another doesn't mean it's the end of the world. You can use the midpoint (exact middle) of those two points to use the energy positively so there isn't so much of a war. For example, my Sun-Moon midpoint is in Sagittarius, so I try to implement Saggy energy into my life whenever I can, and I do find that when I can do it successfully, there's a lot less humming in my brain. Everything gets a little quieter, and I feel more even keel. Pay attention to those midpoints and you'll have a much easier job using your chart to your advantage!

Watch for possible low energy the 2nd and a short temper the 4th. The 5th could be good for romance, and the 17th may find you most in touch with your emotions.
Have fun this month! You won't want to miss out on the social events in December. You'll likely be feeling powerful the 1st and could have high energy the 5th. You could bring that good mood everywhere you go to start the new year.
You may put energy into your home, doing some redecorating or renovations, or spend time with family, getting closer or reconciling. Mercury, your ruler, turns direct on the 13th, and you may feel yourself lift out of the wonkiness you've been stuck in over the last month.
You may be telling everyone what's on your mind whether they like it or not. Watch what you say, or you'll be in more fights than you can count. The Lunar Eclipse on the 10th could bring something to an end, or force you to have to clear something out of your life you've been unnecessarily holding onto. The New Moon on the 24th falls in Capricorn, your opposing sign, and could bring some laziness at work or indulgence.
You may try doing everything you can to make more money this month - just don't spend it all! You may feel you have lower energy on the 2nd, and the 4th could bring a lot of communications, but they may be of the sparring sort. You may get a lot done the 19th, and could feel good about things on the 22nd, though something unexpected could come up you don't like. The 29th may be a power day.
That high energy you may have started feeling towards the end of last month could continue this month as Mars stays in your sign for all of December. Your ruler, Mercury, turns direct on the 13th, and things may go much more smoothly afterwards, and you may be able to put that energy to good use. Watch for possibly having a little too much energy on the 4th.

You could tend to anything you need to so you can get rid of any excess you don't need. You may get the most done on the 5th, but could encounter a difficulty on the 18th. Around the 21st, something could come up out of nowhere that brings a positive opportunity.
Being with friends could give you the most energy this month, and may allow you to focus best. If you're involved in a cause, you could do great work now. The 1st may be a good day for love and to plan a date, and the 24th could bring your emotions out to the surface, breaking that Scorpio shell a little. You might shine around the 29th, and could put yourself into the spotlight.
Your focus might be on your career and life direction this month, and you may change course. Jupiter, your ruler, turns direct on the 25th,which could open more doors for you. The Lunar Eclipse on the 10th falls in Gemini, your opposing sign, so watch for issues coming up in your relationships. Mercury turns direct on the 13th in your sign, so everything could work out better after the 13th.
The Sun enters your sign on the 22nd, which could bring more vitality to your personality and physical energy. The New Moon on the 24th occurs in your sign, and could bring new opportunities into your life, especially to end something, though it may not be in a pleasant way. You may have the best energy on the 19th and could be most in touch with your emotions the 20th.
Uranus, your ruler, turns direct on the 10th, and you may feel like you're now moving in the right direction. Venus enters your sign on the 20th, which could make you feel more romantic, pay more attention to your physical appearance, and lighten your mood a little. That could be felt most around the 21st, and if you want to do something special with a sweetie, try it then.
All of your attention may be centered around other people rather than yourself. You may find yourself in a lot more fights with people, but it's usually about things that have been festering for some time between you two. The 1st could be your most emotional day, and you could express your emotions. The 20th could be the day you have the best energy and want attention.

The aspect the natal Sun and Moon make is crucial. It shows how well your ego (Sun) and emotions (Moon) work together. In a conjunction (less than 10 degrees apart), you're usually someone who has no problem showing their emotional state, and sometimes you can be almost too emotional. In a sextile (60 degrees) or trine (120 degrees), your Sun and Moon work well together, understanding one another well.
In a square (90 degrees), opposition (180 degrees), semisquare (45 degrees), sesquiquadrate (135 degrees), and quincunx (150 degrees), the planets don't work together as well, and there's usually internal conflict for the person since they're usually at war with themselves inside. A semisextile (30 degrees) tends to be mostly beneficial, but you'll need to learn to adapt to situations or suffer from vacillation.
In the lesser-known aspects, quintiles (18 degrees, 36 degrees, 72 degrees, 108 degrees, 144 degrees) tend to show you present yourself best creatively. Septiles (51 degrees, 102 degrees, 154 degrees) have a little more friction, so they can show how you are inspired. Noviles (40 degrees, 80 degrees, 160 degrees) tend to be positive, light, but needing some more courage. Undecims/undeciles (32 degrees, 65 degrees, 98 degrees, 130 degrees, 163 degrees) tend to show someone who engages in fantasy, is socially conscious, and feels there's something missing.
A squine (105 degrees) is halfway between a square and a trine, and shows someone who lets blocks lead to laziness or laziness lead to blocks and holds themselves back. A quindecile (165 degrees) shows someone who is incredibly disruptive to themselves (I'll have more on the quindecile and one of the undecims in a future post).
If you have your Sun and Moon at difficult aspect to one another, that doesn't mean you're screwed for life. You can use midpoints to help rectify any difficult aspect between two planets. A midpoint is literally the exact middle of two points. In astrology, it shows how you can mesh the energy of those two points together to get them working harmoniously. If you have your Sun and Moon at difficult aspect, just check out your Sun-Moon midpoint (you can get that at astro.com). The sign it's in, the house it falls in, and any planets on it will help you to see how you can make the best of a difficult aspect.
When you have a natal planet in the 12th house, the energy of that planet tends to get gobbled up and doesn't show through in your outward personality. People with the Sun, Moon, Mercury, and women with Venus or men with Mars in the 12th house tend to come across as very shy people, even if their planets are in fire or air signs (outgoing/sociable). In those cases, it tends to be that the person comes across as very shy, quiet, introverted, but when alone with people they're comfortable with and in environments they're comfortable with, then you get to see how rambunctious they are. 12th house people tend to do well behind the scenes, and shy away from the spotlight.
In prediction, when a transit (moving) planet is going through the 12th house, then the energy of that planet is temporarily hidden. If the Sun is going through your 12th house, you may find yourself spending more time alone, or feeling more shy; if Mercury going through your 12th house, you tend to keep quiet about things more, not wanting to voice your opinion, and engage in secret-keeping. The slower moving planets tend to show a letting go, as this house rules endings. You may find yourself getting rid of a lot of "baggage."
