The basics: A retrograde occurs when a planet appears to be moving backwards from our vantage point here on Earth. It isn't actually moving backwards, it just appears that way. Mercury turns retrograde most often because it's nearest to us, about 3-4 times per year, and lasts for several weeks. When a planet retrogrades, what that planet rules tends to be thrown off, along with what the sign it's retrograding in rules.
With Mercury retrograde, we experience a shadow and a storm. The shadow period starts when Mercury first hits the point in the zodiac it will turn direct at, and ends when it last hits the point in the zodiac it will turn retrograde at. Most people don't feel the effects of Mercury retrograde until it enters the storm period though. The storm period of Mercury retrograde is when Mercury is moving at its slowest, less than 40 minutes per day. Mercury is a fast-moving planet and hates it when he's moving slowly. There's usually two storm periods, one around the time Mercury turns retrograde, and one around when it turns direct.
The shadow of this Mercury retrograde begins June 9th and ends August 3rd, lasting eight weeks. The exact retrograde begins June 26th at 9:08AM ET and ends July 20th at 2:22PM ET. While there usually is two storm periods, this retrograde will be one long, never-ending storm period from June 18th - July 28th. Not fun!
When we don't leave the storm period, we don't really get a break from the wackiness of Mercury retrograde. Usually, there's a period in the middle of it where things seem to slow down, and you get a chance to catch your breath before the next storm period begins. Not so with this retrograde. I've got one word for you: relentless.
This retrograde occurs entirely in water sign Cancer. Cancer rules the home, so we could see lots of bad things happening to homes. Your neighborhood is built on an ancient burial ground. A sinkhole erupts in your living room. Nests and swarms of animals infiltrate neighborhoods. Cancer also rules the weather, so it could be a lot of weather events happening that does widespread damage to homes. Make sure your insurance is up to date.
We could hear bad news about real estate, some sort of setback with the housing market, which isn't good considering how bad it's been, but that should change soon after this retrograde is over. Some sort of housing scam could come to light, or more problems with mortgage lenders.
We may have domestic issues that come up that shock us, anger us, upset us, frustrate us. We feel neglected or ignored by our governments, and don't feel like they understand what's really important to us. Domestic issues may be put aside so focus can be put on international issues and the problems facing other countries.
Cancer also rules family, and we could hear something troubling about the state of family, some new wave of wacky parenting, and be more critical of parents, especially mothers. Someone could make headlines for something she's done as a mother, good or bad. We struggle to be as supportive and encouraging as we should be of one another, and feel more isolated and alienated from our families, whether they be our blood relatives or broader, cultural families/countrymen.
To add insult to injury, the turn direct of this retrograde will be square (difficult aspect) Uranus in Aries, which will be stationary (not moving) because it just turns retrograde 3 days prior. Unexpected bad news and developments? Plans suddenly falling apart at the last minute? Out of control rebellion of the youth? And technology could take a hit since both Mercury and Uranus rule technology. Some sort of super hacking case?
On the upside, quickly after this retrograde ends, we put the pieces of life back together again quite well with both Mars and Jupiter in Cancer. That'll help to make everything all better again. We'll be all, wow, can you believe how bad it just was and how quickly it went away? Rad.
The turn retrograde begins at 23 degrees Cancer, so those of you Cancereans born July 14th - 17th may feel the turn retrograde most. The turn direct occurs at 13 degrees Cancer, so those of you Cancereans born July 3rd - 7th may feel the turn direct most.
For the rest of you, check the house(s) Mercury will be retrograding in of your own natal chart, and any aspects Mercury will make during its retrograde to your natal planets, to fully understand how it will impact you personally.
If you have Mercury retrograde in your natal or progressed chart, you may not feel the worst of this. Those individuals generally don't experience the difficulties of the retrograde because it feels more natural to them. Of course, chances are everyone else around them doesn't have the same aspect, so they can still experience difficulties brought on by others.
Jupiter is gearing up to enter a new sign, water sign Cancer, on June 25th, 2013 at 9:40PM ET. He'll remain in Cancer until July 16th, 2014 at 6:30AM ET when he enters fire sign Leo. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, so he's quite comfortable here. The last time Jupiter was in Cancer was in 2001-2002.
Cancer rules the home, so Jupiter in Cancer should be good for real estate, which is something we really could use right now. We should begin to see an uptick in positives for the housing sector. This could also be a great time to invest in real estate (though that's probably been true for a while, but we may see more people making money through real estate). Hopefully, we can get this mess under control and make things right. Saturn is currently going through fellow water sign Scorpio, so the two should be working together in harmony. With Saturn in Scorpio, we have to improve our financial situations, so with Jupiter in Cancer, we could really see the impact of that in real estate.
Cancer also rules the broader home, meaning our countries, so we may focus more on our own countries and try to fix problems at home before going out and fixing other people's problems. Domestic issues become more important, and we demand more attention be paid to us by our own governments. We can feel more patriotic, and like our whole country is our family.
The family is governed by Cancer, and we can try to rectify some of the breaking down of the family structure that's taken place, and see more and more people trying to create families of their own through marriage, children, joining groups, or getting involved in civic organizations. Society wants to feel like a family, and we work at being more supportive of one another, nurturing each other, and encouraging others.
Now, all of this positive stuff probably won't be felt right off the bat because Mercury will be turning retrograde in Cancer the day after Jupiter enters Cancer - joy! Things will probably be thrown off for a little bit until that retrograde is over at the end of July. At that point, Mars will also be in Cancer, and and we'll be coming off of a grand trine, where you have planets in the same positions in all three signs of an element. Jupiter in Cancer will trine Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces during the second half of July. That should be a very nice time!
In August, there could be an issue with Jupiter involved in a t-square, opposite Pluto in Capricorn with both square Uranus in Aries. This t-square is in cardinal signs, making it about action, and as the planet that is square, Uranus is the focal point, which is unexpected, sudden, rebellious, independent, eccentric, unpredictable. Libra is the missing sign, called the empty leg, and is the way we can make this work out well and fix it. We have to compromise, work with one another, be respectful and fair, let justice run its course, embrace equality, and always be courteous.

For Aries, Jupiter in Cancer is good for your home and family life. You can make improvements to your home through redecorating, remodeling, adding additions, or making repairs. You likely want to feel like you’re living in a big space, so some of you may try to move into a bigger home, or try to make your home seem bigger in some way, like through knocking down walls or cleaning up clutter drastically. You can improve your relations with your family members and try to repair relationships with them. You seem more gregarious with your relatives, and enjoy spending time with your family, or with those who you think of as family. Family is more important to you over the next year, and you want to feel as though you have a good support system. You want to surround yourself with people who will nurture and encourage you. This is also a good year to work on strengthening your inner foundation to improve your sense of security and confidence.
For Taurus, Jupiter in Cancer means you should have a more active mind over the next year. You come up with a plethora of ideas, and they’re all big ones. You just may have a problem doing anything with those ideas. Some of you may take up writing, or pursue it professionally. Your communication style is easy to understand, and if you normally have any difficulty communicating, you can make changes to improve your communication style. If you have any siblings, you can improve your relationship with them. You can also improve your relations with your neighbors and get more involved in your community. You’ll likely find you’re busier over the next year, and spend a lot of time out of the house or working on lots of little tasks. You try to focus on the brighter side of situations, and are more optimistic in your communications, so even if you feel bad, other people won’t know it. You can talk yourself into a good mood.
For Gemini, Jupiter in Cancer can mean good things for your finances. This is a good year to increase your finances, and you could be presented with many opportunities to do so. Try starting a side business to make some extra money. Conversely, you also have to watch for spending too much, not keeping track of where it’s going, or blowing it all on one big risky venture. Make smart decisions, and you’ll be rewarded, and look at things long-term. You feel more confident and secure, and you can do things to increase you confidence and security even more. You have more confidence and belief in yourself. The only issue is you can feel so good that you don’t do anything to make and good things happen. You can still see good things happen over the next year if you do nothing, but it won’t be as big or as long-lasting, so try to make yourself move. For those of you trying to lose weight, Jupiter in your sign can make you both gain and lose weight. If you stick to your diet and exercise, you can lose the weight you want to lose easily, and lose even more than you shoot for. If you’re lazy, the pounds will pack on.
For Leo, Jupiter in Cancer means you’ll feel more comfortable in the background, behind closed doors, and out of the spotlight. You do better work when no one is watching, and you can be praised for the work you do quietly. This is a good year to deal with subconscious issues as well, and starting therapy can be helpful. You can work at eliminating baggage so when Jupiter enters your sign next year, you don’t have as much weighing you down and holding you back. Your intuition is better, and you can have good hunches. You’re also protected to a degree over the next year, and the absolute worst is less likely to happen. It may seem like you have guardian angels around you. You can become interested in spiritual matters and metaphysical subjects, and can begin studying something in secret. Your imagination can soar, and you indulge in fantasy, so this can be a good year for creative and artistic types.

You can make a dream come true if you put in the hard work. You’re more hopeful and more of a dreamer. You’re also more of a humanitarian, and want to do something to help save the world from itself, so you can become involved in a cause.
For Libra, Jupiter in Cancer should be great for your career. You can make significant progress with your career goals and get closer to the career that you want to have. You get more out of your career. You can also focus on your life path and make sure you’re going in the direction that you want to be going in. If you don’t feel you are, you can correct your course. You feel good when you have a direction and a sense of purpose. If you haven’t had that, you’ll set goals for yourself to bring that into your life. You can be presented opportunities through a parent, boss, or mentor, or begin a mentor relationship with someone. You could find yourself in the public eye at some point during this transit, and you make a good impression on people.

Life seems sunnier, brighter, and more alive now, as do you, and you don’t want to get stuck in somber moods anymore. There’s too much for you to explore for that. You just want to get out and go. Don’t hold yourself back or stop yourself from taking risks. Be bold, be daring, and go big.
For Sagittarius, Jupiter in Cancer will allow you to get in touch with the serious aspects of yourself and deal with deeply-held issues. You’re not a fan of being too serious, but this transit gives you the chance to process some old issues that you shove away so you can evolve, grow, and move on. They’re not as heavy as in the past, and you can process them more easily. When this transit is over, you should be a different, more evolved person than you were at the start. You can also have positive dealings with other people’s money, and make more money yourself through other people. This can be a good time to take on a business partner, and you may rely on their resources to improve your own. You can make more money for someone else as well. Mostly, this is a time to change, and it can be a positive change if you let it. Don’t run from the seriousness, and let yourself heal from old traumas.
For Capricorn, Jupiter in Cancer means you should get along better with the people in your life. You can forge new relationships and they go well. The people who come into your life now tend to be people who will be good for you in some way. You can expand your life through your relationships with others, and opportunities come about through other people. You can do more with a partner than alone, and this can be a good time to find a partner, professionally or personally. Those in a relationship can bring their commitment to another level. Those who are single can have more opportunities to be in a committed relationship. Even if no romantic relationship occurs, you can strengthen all of your relationships, including the one with yourself. You try to bring more harmony and balance into your life, and believe that charm and grace is what will win people over. There’s no need to get your hands dirty when a smile works.
For Aquarius, Jupiter in Cancer should be good for work. You can have several new work opportunities over the next year that will improve your working situation. You can be offered multiple jobs, get a job that’s bigger and better than the one you have, or try working for yourself. You want more freedom at work and with the work you do, so you will require more space. You could literally get a bigger office or work space. If you have to work in a cramped area with someone looking over your shoulder all of the time, you won’t be happy. You get along better with your coworkers, and can improve the environment in some way. This is also a good period for your health, and you can make good progress with health problems, and improve your lifestyle. On the other hand, you can also gain weight during this time, so watch the snacking. You can also get a new pet, make more time for the pets you have, or have more of an affinity for animals.
For Pisces, Jupiter in Cancer can be a fun time. You want less responsibility and more room to do what you want. You can take up more hobbies and make more time for your current ones. If you have children, they could have positive opportunities over the next year. If you want children, you can have one over the next year. If you’re in a relationship, there’s more romance and passion between you. If you’re single, you could meet many people who catch your eye, be more flirtatious, and date more than usual. Love may be in the air, but you don’t take any of it too seriously. You just want a good time.

June 8th 2013 New Moon in Gemini
A new moon occurs at 11:56AM ET at 18 degrees 0 minutes of Gemini. In Gemini, we want to spend time sharing ideas and knowledge, putting our thoughts and plans out there, and stimulating our minds. We crave social time because we need the mental stimulation other people give us. We try to keep busy, but may seem scattered and unfocused from having too much to do. We want to spend time in our neighborhoods, with our youth, and focus on learning and technology. There could be good news for young people, communities, or technology. Gemini is a sign of duality, represented by the Twins, so two different things could grab out attention, and we feel pulled in two different directions. In general, we're more light-hearted and less serious, curious and honest. If you're a Gemini Sun, Moon, or mid-Gemini rising, you may feels the effects of this moon most.
June 23rd 2013 Full Moon in Capricorn
A full moon occurs at 7:32AM ET at 2 degrees 9 minutes of Capricorn. In Capricorn, we want to reach the goals we've set out to accomplish. We've worked long and hard, and we believe that we deserve our reward. What we think we deserve and what we actually deserve may be two different things though, and that can be hard to see. We may be punished, but we don't understand that we haven't been as responsible as we thought we were. Responsibility, maturity, and discipline are vital with this full moon. Those who don't display those traits suffer. We could see something important come up for our government since Capricorn rules governments, and with Mercury retrograde in Cancer at the same time, it could be a domestic issue that comes up, and the government has to eliminate something or find an explanation. If you're a Capricorn Sun, Moon, or rising, you may feel the effects of this moon most.
