April 2023 comes with some super energy, first bringing a soft full moon in pleasant Libra to help us set the table, and then roaring with a solar eclipse in fiery Aries. Let's dive in! P.S. A new moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact same position in the Zodiac (called a conjunction). New moons are related to beginnings, have high energy, and are enthusiastic. Solar eclipses occur when new moons are within 18 1/2 degrees of the Lunar Nodes (the points in the Moon's orbit where the Moon crosses the ecliptic).
What is a Full Moon?
A full moon occurs when the transit (moving) Sun and Moon are in the exact opposite positions in the Zodiac (called an opposition). Full moons are related to endings, culminations, and are emotional energy.
Full Moon in Libra: April 6th 2023 (12:34AM ET/April 5th @ 9:34PM PT)
The April full moon comes to us in Libra, fair-minded and pleasant. We strive to keep the peace with Libra full moons, not wanting to have any extra chaos or fighting. We can compromise, mediate, and negotiate to make this happen, and we can use our charm to win people over. We can be tactful and diplomatic, and our ability to understand other sides can be heightened, which helps with trying to find a space that works.
Libra is the sign of relationships, so we can be more emotionally-invested in our connections and dealings with others. Relationships, partnerships, and alliances that are healthy and beneficial can grow stronger, while those that aren't may shatter, crumble, or feel shakier. We can work to improve them, or we can walk away if that's not possible. We can see this in our personal and professional lives, as well as with connections around the world. Libra needs peace and harmony in order to feel balanced, and can be indecisive when it's not balanced, so we have to work on being more harmonious and balanced, otherwise we may waffle quite a bit. As we stick to peace, we become stronger and better able to focus. As we stick to chaos, we become more frantic and out of control. Peace, harmony, balance, and strong connections help us as we segway into the solar eclipse, which is so full of energy that we may have difficulty seeing straight at times! Use the full moon to prepare. The full moon occurs at 16 degrees 7 minutes Libra. Aspects to the full moon are: Conjunction: 14 degrees 7 minutes - 18 degrees 7 minutes Libra Sextile: 14 degrees 7 minutes - 18 degrees 7 minutes Leo or Sagittarius Square: 14 degrees 7 minutes - 18 degrees 7 minutes Cancer or Capricorn Trine: 14 degrees 7 minutes - 18 degrees 7 minutes Gemini or Aquarius Opposition: 14 degrees 7 minutes - 18 degrees 7 minutes Aries Solar Eclipse in Aries: April 20th 2023 (12:13AM ET/April 19th @ 9:13PM PT)
And here comes some super high energy! Our first eclipse for 2023 is a solar eclipse in energetic Aries. This is the first eclipse in Aries for some time, and solar eclipses are tied to new beginnings, while Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac and rules new beginnings, so Aries solar eclipses are amazing times for starting something new. Focus on new projects, new ventures, new opportunities, new paths and journeys in your life. This is the time to get moving!
This likely began about a month ago with the new moon in Aries on March 21st. Solar eclipses occur with new moons, so we have two in a row in Aries, and 2 new moons in a row in the same sign usually connect to one another. That new moon occured at a special position, the 0 degrees Aries Point, which likely propelled us to take action. Whatever you've already been working on can get a massive boost with this eclipse, and we're taking the intangible and making it real. This eclipse is even more special because it occurs at 29 degrees, which is the anaretic degree. There are 30 degrees in every Zodiac sign, and 29 degrees is the very last degree and called the anaretic degree. It's massive energy that requires action, immediately. We can feel such a huge desire to take action now that can't be ignored. Hopefully, you began with the March new moon, so you've already done your homework and aren't acting impulsively. Being impulsive may lead to problems, but if you're being smart, this can be an amazing time for doing something you've dreamt about for a while, or didn't think was actually possible at this point. Transit Jupiter is also in Aries, and while it's a bit too wide to be conjunct this eclipse, it does trigger the eclipse not too long after (May 15th). That means this energy started with the March 21st new moon, and is going to last until mid-May. We have about 2 months the make the most of it. It is one of those things that will be gone quickly, and once it's gone, it's gone, so don't miss out! One thing to note: Mercury retrograde begins the day after this eclipse on April 21st, and lasts until May 14th. This occurs in Taurus though, not Aries, so it doesn't aspect the eclipse. Still, we have to keep this energy in mind as we're making our way through. The Mercury retrograde might show this is a great time for a second chance, to try again. But it also shows we need to make sure we've thought this through, and again, avoid being impulsive. In Taurus, we can be lazier than usual, however this Aries energy is anything but lazy, so it may translate instead to frustration that makes us *feel* stuck. But, it's great energy to get unstuck! In the world, we may see a lot more activity across a variety of areas and with many different situations. Aries does connect to war though, so we may see some extra violence with this eclipse, a sudden attack or accident. The solar eclipse occurs at 29 degree 50 minutes Aries. The aspects to the solar eclipse are: Conjunction: 24 degrees 50 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Aries Semisextile: 27 degrees 50 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Taurus or Pisces Sextile: 24 degrees 50 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Gemini or Aquarius Square: 24 degrees 50 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Cancer or Capricorn Trine: 24 degrees 50 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Leo or Sagittarius Quincunx: 27 degrees 50 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Virgo or Scorpio Opposition: 24 degrees 50 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes minutes Libra Since this eclipse is so late in sign, it can also make out-of-sign aspects, as if it were in the next sign (Taurus). Out-of-sign aspects usually aren't as strong and may be more subconscious in nature though. The out-of-sign aspects for this eclipse are: Conjunction: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 4 degrees 50 minutes Taurus Semisextile: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 50 minutes Aries or Gemini Sextile: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 4 degrees 50 minutes Cancer or Pisces Square: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 4 degrees 50 minutes Leo or Aquarius Trine: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 4 degrees 50 minutes Virgo or Capricorn Quincunx: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 4 degrees 50 minutes Libra or Sagittarius Opposition: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 4 degrees 50 minutes Scorpio Suggested Reading: The New & Full Moons page for general interpretations by house and aspect Pluto is the planet of transformation in astrology, and is passionate, intense, and unrelenting. When impacting your home and family life, this energy is brought to matters of the home and family. How Natal Pluto Impacts Your Home & Family Life
For some, Pluto can have a strong influence on your home and family life via your natal chart. This can be the case if you have:
- Pluto in the 4th house (ruling the home and family; note that family can mean actual relations as well as those you think of as family) - Scorpio 4th house/Imum Coeli (so Pluto rules the 4th house) or 4th house ruler - Pluto conjunct (aligned with) the natal Moon (planetary ruler of the home & family) or the 4h house ruler - Pluto conjunct the 10th house cusp/Midheaven (the 10th house cusp/Midheaven is on an axis with the 4th house cusp/Imum Coeli so Pluto would be directly opposing) When natal Pluto has a strong influence on your home and family life in your natal chart, you can be someone who experiences massive Pluto energy with the home and family. In your younger years, your family may have been besieged by drama, a bit chaotic and unstable, and there may have even been violence in the home (since Pluto is a war ruler). There may have been lots of fighting over power and control (ruled by Pluto), whether it was you fighting with others in the home, or others in the home fighting with each other. There is often some major trauma and emotional baggage associated with a strong natal Pluto influencing the home and family life. A transformation is usually required of you, and at some point, the meaning of what your home is and looks like and what family is and looks like for you changes. This tends to come after profound healing and getting into your depths. Now, it doesn't always have to mean bad. Some other manifestations of a strong Pluto influencing your home and family life can be living in areas that are in need of rehabilitation, or having your family do rehab work in your communities (or even be in real estate, especially as flippers). There can be a draw to living in places in need of help and trying to transform them into something better. This can also be with actual people, and you may have had many people living in your home that your family was helping out, whether they be down-on-their luck relatives or something like your parents were foster parents so there were lots of foster kids in and out. Your home and family likely have an outsized influence on your core as a person, and there is likely a relative that is viewed as being very Pluto-like (super strong, willful, defiant, a formidable creator, who has come back from defeat). How Transit Pluto Impacts Your Home & Family Life
Transit (moving) Pluto can also bring strong Pluto energy to your home and family life, but this is temporary (whereas with natal Pluto, it's your entire life). With transit Pluto, it's only going to be for the period of time the transit is in effect, however since Pluto rules big transformation, the effect may be lasting for some time.
Transit Pluto can influence your home and family life when it's: - in your natal 4th house - aspecting your natal 4th house cusp/Imum Coeli, natal 4th house ruler, or natal Moon Transit Pluto touring your natal 4th house can be similar to natal Pluto in the 4th house, and does last for 1-2 decades, so you get it for a while. It can be less trauma-focused though, depending on how old you are when it starts and how much work you've done on yourself by then. If you've already worked on old trauma, empowered yourself, taken control, and faced down demons, then transit Pluto in the natal 4th house can help you get more power and control over your home and family life. You may decide to move, especially somewhere up-and-coming, or get into real estate investing, or do some renovating where you live. You may take on a more matriarchal position in your family or with your support group. If you haven't worked on old trauma, still feel weakened and chaotic, then transit Pluto in the natal 4th house can stir up uncomfortable emotions, old memories, and create emotional upheaval. There can be chaos at home or with family as a result. A major transformation needs to be made, and you have to do the hard work to satisfy Pluto. When it comes to transit Pluto aspects, these last for about 3 years. Beneficial aspects (sextiles and trines) can help you smooth things out at home and with family, and you can feel great in your dealings with them. Challenging aspects (conjunctions, squares, and oppositions) can be the reverse, and you may struggle with old wounds, baggage, and intense emotions until you work through the issues and transform (but if you've already worked through the issues and transformed, then the challenging aspects can actually help give you even more power and control). Pluto is moving into Aquarius, so a whole new set of people can get affected by this transit when it comes to your home and family life. This can include you if you have:
- natal 4th house/Imum Coeli in Aquarius (Pluto will transit) - natal 4th house ruler or natal Moon in Aquarius (Pluto will conjunct) - natal 4th house cusp/Imum Coeli or natal 4th house ruler or natal Moon in Taurus, Leo, or Scorpio (Pluto will square or oppose) These are the challenging positions for Pluto in Aquarius, so it's important you evaluate your home and family life, assess which issues you have worked through and which you haven't, and get started right away doing the work. If you work with Pluto, this can go well, and you can get more control. If any of these positions are instead in Aries, Gemini, Libra, or Sagittarius, Pluto in Aquarius will make beneficial aspects, and you can get a shot of helpful energy and feel more empowered with your home and family dealings. How does this impact us? About Juno in Astrology
Juno is an asteroid in astrology, and there are tens of thousands of asteroids, and each connects to something different. Many are simply names, but some like Juno connect to specific energies.
In the case of asteroid Juno, this is the asteroid of commitment. Juno shows how we express commitment and our attitudes around it, and in transit, we can see this via the Zodiac sign Juno is touring, and the natal house it's touring in your natal chart. Impact of Asteroid Juno in Taurus 2023
Juno spent almost 2 months in Aries before coming to Zodiac sign Taurus. Aries is full of fire and energy, while Taurus is a grounded earth sign and steady fixed sign, so it's fairly different, and commitment isn't rushed into with Taurus. Instead, we take our time, and want to be certain first before we commit to people, places, projects, and decisions.
Juno in Taurus can help us slow down with the commitments we're making, and we can take the time to assess, gather what we need, and make sure we're confident about it before doing anything. Once we do commit. Juno in Taurus can help make sure that we stay committed, and we're in it for the long haul. We don't back out of commitment quickly or easily, and want to stick with it for as long as we can. Taurus is a very loyal sign, so we can be quite loyal during this transit and demand that in return. This might make it difficult to know when to walk away though, and we may try to stay even when we shouldn't, so we do need to make sure we're seeing things as they are and not letting pride or stubbornness get in the way. We need to be committed to ourselves too! Juno tours Zodiac sign Taurus for about 1 1/2 months, from March 11th to May 2nd 2023. Important Juno in Taurus Aspects:
Juno in Taurus will make one major conjunction (alignment) with the planet Uranus on April 10th 2023. Uranus is the planet of change, the sudden and unexpected, the unconventional and different, which is pretty different from the sign of Taurus.
Juno conjunct Uranus in Taurus will likely prompt us to make radically different decisions regarding commitment, and we may do this suddenly and unexpectedly. We can also experience changes regarding commitment that feel out of our control, and we need to adjust on the fly. We may be more stubborn around this time, and need to make sure we don't let this interfere with our commitments or decision-making around commitment. We need to keep an open mind, and be willing to take baby steps outside of our comfort zone in order to find resolutions that will work. This can also focus on our friendships since Uranus rules our friends and the masses, so we may give extra attention to them, and we can become more committed to our friends or groups we belong to, as well as to causes we champion. There may be a commitment made on a wider scale that impacts a large group of people as well. This conjunction occurs at 17 degrees of Taurus, so if you have anything at 17 degrees, it can get hit by this conjunction, and whatever the planet or body rules, you may be extra focused on issues of commitment and changes impacting commitment. It's intense, passionate, and unrelenting energy, which can be a lot to deal with! So what does it mean when Pluto is influencing your personality? Let's dig in. How a Strong Natal Pluto Influences Your Personality
If Pluto is strong in your natal chart, this can mean that you naturally display Pluto in your personality all of your life. Your natal Pluto can be strong if it's:
- conjunct your natal Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or 1st house ruler - in the 1st house - a singleton - the lone slow planet in a stellium This can make you a person who is naturally passionate, intense, and unrelenting. You don't back down, you don't give up, and you're a dominant person. This can be a bit much at times though, and you likely have to learn how to channel this energy in a productive way, otherwise you end up a bit self-destructive. You also likely have to learn how to have fun, otherwise everything becomes too serious and intense to really deal with. If you can manage that, you can be someone that others take seriously, look to in hard times, and you can be incredibly strong and powerful. You likely have to endure a lot in your life though, but you can learn so much that you become incredibly wise over time. A major transformation is usually required of you at some point with a strong natal Pluto, and many smaller transformations can sprinkle throughout your life as well. But you can be someone who is naturally open to the change, and showing others how much transforming yourself is possible can be a part of your life mission. How You Change With Transit Pluto
Transit Pluto refers to the Pluto that is currently moving through the Zodiac. Pluto has been in Capricorn for a while, and starts moving to Aquarius in 2023.
Transit Pluto directly relates to transformation. When transit Pluto is touring your natal 1st house of the self, your Sun or Moon sign, conjunct your natal Sun, Moon, or 1st house ruler, or conjunct your progressed Ascendant, these can all indicate you're going to experience a transformation in your personality. You often end up becoming more Plutonian, so you become more passionate, intense, and unrelenting, Others may be more fearful of you because of that, but they can also take you more seriously and show you more respect. You can be more dominating in dealings with others, and less likely to let anyone push you around. If being a doormat is your natural inclination, Pluto can demand that this change and you step into your own power. That's another thing, you can be more empowered thanks to Pluto ruling power, and you can give this power to yourself, but may also find others inherently want to give you more power as well. You can seem serious and capable. So, none of this is a bad thing! The only issue might be if you start to struggle with letting loose, and feel the need to take absolutely everything seriously and intensely. It's important to balance this out a little and keep control over it so you don't end up going too far. All of this can be strong when transit Pluto is actually impacting the areas mentioned, but may start to lessen after transit Pluto has moved on. However, they usually do stick around for the long haul, so the change isn't one that automatically ends, and is instead one that is assimilated into your personality. Who Gets Impacted by Pluto in Aquarius
With Pluto moving into a new sign, this means that new people will begin to get the major impact of Pluto.
For those of you who have a strong natal Pluto, it doesn't change too much for you, however you can be more sensitive to major changes with Pluto itself, so you may feel the shift from Capricorn to Aquarius in a subtle, subconscious way. You may feel the pull toward giving more attention to your dreams and the future, and can be even more attuned to change in your own life and in the world. For everyone else, transit Pluto in Aquarius can have a strong influence on your personality if you have your natal Sun, Moon, 1st house ruler, or Ascendant in Aquarius. This means Pluto will conjunct (align with) them at some point, and you can get that major burst of Pluto energy into your personality. Pluto is slow moving, so this can last for about 3 years. You may feel it the entire time Pluto is in Aquarius (which is over 20 years), but it'll have the greatest impact on your personality when it's actually conjunct. If you're intermediate/advanced, also look to your progressed chart. If transit Pluto is going to conjunct your progressed Sun, Moon, or Ascendant in Aquarius, this can also have a strong impact on your personality, and you can feel more passionate, intense, and empowered by Pluto. One other little quirk is if you have your progressed Mercury or Venus in Aquarius, they can ride for longer than the 3 years with transit Pluto, and while they don't connect with your personality, since they'll ride with Pluto for an extended period (often at least 6 years), that can have influence in many areas (especially with Mercury since it rules the mind and communication). If your progressed Mercury or Venus are located at 29 degrees Capricorn or 0 degrees Aquarius, you're REALLY going to feel this shift from Capricorn to Aquarius 2023 - 2024, and may end up being a part of the group of people who usher us into the new age.
