Saturn turns direct in just a few days on November 15th, and begins to move forward again in Pisces. With Saturn no longer being retrograde, this can open more up for us, and we normally move toward clarity and opportunities - but are stalled out for now thanks to other retrogrades and a sticky Full Moon!
What is Saturn Direct?
A body in astrology is called retrograde when it appears to be moving backward through the Zodiac. When they're no longer appearing to be moving backward and instead appear to go forward again, this is called turning direct.
Saturn retrogrades for a few months every year, and Saturn is the planet of restriction and limitation. This is doubled-down on while Saturn is retrograde, and we can feel super restricted, super limited, like our options have been zapped. This can be frustrating, but we generally lack the focus, discipline, or motivation to do much about it, and it can take some time to get back on track. With this coming to an end, we can focus on opening up our lives again and finding more opportunities. We can work on being more optimistic, less pessimistic, and seeing things as they really are rather than what we fear them to be. Saturn in Pisces focuses on our subconscious minds, our spiritual selves, our intuition, and our karma. We can work on any of these things now, and feel we have more options to process lessons and learn. The Taurus Full Moon Stagnates
On the same day as Saturn direct, we have a Taurus Full Moon. Full Moons are emotional energy, but Taurus Full Moons are usually more stubborn and stuck. They keep us in place as we refuse to budge, insisting we're right, or scared of what might be different.
The Taurus Full Moon can hold on to the Saturn energy, and we feel a bit stalled. There's usually some time after a retrograde ends before we get back to usual anyway, and it might seem like we're extra stuck this time. There is likely something we need to be working on, addressing, that is keeping us in place. We may prefer avoiding it, but that doesn't help us much. We have to find some motivation to take action and work slowly, deliberately, and purposefully. Mercury Is Going to Retrograde
Mercury retrograde begins on November 25th, 10 days after this Saturn direct, so we fold right into the next round of Mercury madness. The Mercury retrograde occurs in Sagittarius, naturally ruled by Jupiter, and is the sign of expansion, new experiences, and exploration. Mercury retrograde in this sign means we likely won't have as many options, so the limitations of Saturn retrograde might continue.
With Mercury retrograde, we might lash out because of this. We can push too hard and too fast, and run away. We've been restricted for too long, and we want to bust out, but this usually isn't the right way to handle it. We need to be smart, and we need some disciplined, as Saturn would have us act. Since Mercury retrograde starts just ten days later, it might feel like we're flipping around and all over the place as Saturn changes direction, going forward, and then Mercury changes direction, going backward. Things might be a little wonky thanks to this, and we have to be flexible, especially with both Saturn and Mercury in mutable signs (the flowing adaptable signs). Pluto is Exiting Capricorn
Four days after Saturn direct, on November 19th, Pluto is shoving off, leaving Capricorn for good and entering Aquarius. This is huge, the biggest event of 2024 as Pluto is now starting a whole new cycle, and our lives are moving into a whole new phase. This is the end of one era in Capricorn and the start of another in Aquarius.
This began in March 2023 when Pluto first entered Aquarius, but it's official now as Pluto stays in this sign for almost 2 more decades. So, we're coming out of Saturn retrograde, and we're immediately staring down Pluto in Aquarius. We have to, once again, be flexible. This is a lot of changing energy all at once thanks to Saturn, Pluto, and Mercury, and the Taurus Full Moon might make us want to throw up our hands and give up quickly from the overwhelm. But that's not smart, so focus on flexibility. Aspects to Saturn Direct:
This year's Saturn direct comes at 12 degrees 42 minutes of Pisces. The major aspects to Saturn direct are between 9 and 15 degrees of:
Pisces: conjunction Taurus and Capricorn: sextile Gemini and Sagittarius: square Cancer and Scorpio: trine Virgo: opposition Sextiles and trines are considered beneficial aspects, so any bodies making these aspects are working well with Saturn. If you have any planets or bodies at these positions in your natal chart, you can work with the energy well, and have an easier time using any opportunities you have, creating more options, and being disciplined. Squares and oppositions are considered challenging aspects, so any bodies making these aspects are at odds with Saturn. If you have any planets or bodies at these positions in your natal chart, you feel extra restricted and have a lot of work to do, still. You have to be smart, and do things the right way and for the right reasons, and make sure to learn any lessons you have left with them. Conjunctions are considered neutral aspects that amplify the energy involved. In the case of Saturn, conjunctions make it even more important to be disciplined, to be smart, to have plans, and to do things right. You need to be ethical, responsible, and mature in all Saturn things. If you do that, you can see rewards once Saturn moves on. The best way to utilize this Saturn Direct:
Saturn in Pisces focuses on your past, subconscious, soul, and karma, so focus this Saturn direct on any of those things. What from the past do you need to better understand, reflect on, dig deeper into it, and let go of?
Dig into your subconscious mind, and try to understand yourself better, your motivations and actions, and what has led you to where you are now. What still needs to change? Connect with your spiritual self. This might mean taking time for spiritual projects or ventures, or simply getting some time to be more introspective, to be still, and to have some quiet. And then there's karma, and it can be a good time to work on releasing some karmic baggage. If it feels like something's weighing on you that doesn't connect with anything in this life, it might be karmic baggage that needs to be done away with. Saturn in Pisces is big for endings, and this is the end of a cycle. That times out well with Pluto changing signs (and Uranus and Neptune next year). What is ending for you now, and how can you learn and grow from this? Suggested Reading: The Transit Saturn page for general interpretations in the houses and aspects Comments are closed.
