There is something called elements in astrology, which are a way to categorize the twelve Zodiac signs. Each of the Zodiac signs are assigned to one of the elements, and there are 4 of them. There are 3 Zodiac signs per element. They are: Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius Earth: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn Air: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius Water: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces Astrology also has 10 planets, including the Sun and Moon and excluding the Earth. How we express our emotions, and what we need for emotional stability and security is shown via our natal Moon sign, which is the Zodiac sign the Moon was in at the moment we were born. The water sign Moons - Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces Moons - are the Moon signs that are most connected to emotion since these are the signs of emotion. Cancer is naturally ruled by the Moon, so it can be most natural to emote and express with a Cancer Moon; emotions are deeper, serious, and more passionate with Scorpio Moons; and emotions generate compassion, understanding, empathy, and sensitivity with Pisces Moons. But what does it mean when someone is a water sign Moon, but they're not emotional? They don't share their feelings, they seem a bit cut off from emotion, and they might be more practical. What astrology shows a person with a water sign Moon doesn't act like a water sign Moon? The 12th House of the Hidden
There are 12 houses in astrology, and each has different energy. The twelfth house is the house of the hidden, and it hides the energy of any planet or body that resides there. With the Moon, this means it hides the energy of the Moon sign, so if a water sign Moon has their Moon in the 12th house, they may have difficulty expressing themselves emotionally.
A water sign Moon in the 12th house does have strong emotions, but isn't comfortable sharing this openly around new people or those they don't know well, nor in social situations. They may seem like they're quiet as a mouse, but when they're with someone they know and trust, they can openly express whatever they feel. A water sign Moon in this house is usually a fire sign Rising, so they may seem more focused on taking action. But they do have a deep well of emotion, and can use their feelings to motivate them to take action. Moon Conjunctions
If the person's water sign Moon is conjunct, or aligned with, another planet, they may predominantly express their emotional Moon via that planet instead of the sign their Moon is in. The natural rulers of the water signs are the Moon (Cancer), Pluto (Scorpio) and Neptune (Pisces), so conjunct any of these amplifies the water sign Moon. Now, the Moon can't be conjunct itself, ha, so that energy tends to be strong when conjunct or opposite the Sun, meaning you were born on a New or Full Moon, and that tends to make someone more emotional. But if it's another planet, it may alter the energy quite a bit.
This is especially true when the natal water sign Moon is conjunct Mercury, Ceres, Saturn, or Uranus. Mercury is a neutral planet, however it governs the mind, so a water Moon conjunct Mercury might be more mind-focused instead of emotion-focused. Ceres is argued to rule Taurus, and is very grounded and practical, so a water sign Moon conjunct Ceres can make them seem that way. Saturn restricts, and is super realistic, so Saturn can make the water sign Moon native hold back everything they feel, and make them seem more stoic. Uranus is the sudden and unconventional, so Uranus can make the water sign Moon native unpredictable and more unconnected to emotion. Venus conjunct a water sign Moon can make emotions more pleasant. Mars conjunct a water sign Moon can energize emotions for action. Jupiter conjunct a water sign Moon can make the focus on good feelings. Abundance of Other Elements
If someone with a water sign Moon has an abundance of another element in their planets, so say 5 planets in one of the other elements, that element can be more dominant in their personality, and this can tamp down their water sign Moon.
An abundance of fire planets makes them take more action, and they may use emotional inspiration for creative ventures; an abundance of earth sign planets can make them more practical and reserved; and an abundance of air sign energy can bring intellect into the mix. One Last Note: An Automatic Shut-Off Valve
One last little oddity about the water sign Moons: Because water sign Moons feel everything stronger than others, this can eventually become overwhelming, especially if exposed to major trauma. That sometimes triggers the water sign Moon to shut off their emotions, and it may seem like they don't feel anything at all, but they do.
This ends up piling up until eventually, the dam breaks. Their emotions can only be bottled up for so long, and when it comes out, this can be too much, and they might be tempted to bottle it back up again. But they shouldn't, and they need to be comfortable with letting themselves feel, even the bad stuff. Suggested Reading: Water Signs in Astrology & Love Comments are closed.
