Mars and Motivation

Mars is the planet of energy and drive, so this is the planet that can motivate you. How you’re motivated and what you’re motivated to do usually depends on the house that transit (moving) Mars is located. Mars travels through the entire Zodiac in about 2 years, so he goes through all 12 of your houses over the course of about 2 years, and spends about 2 months or so in each house, bringing energy and drive to the areas of life ruled by that house. During that time, you can be motivated to make things happen.

Transit Mars in the 1st House
When transit Mars is in your 1st house, you feel more energetic than you have in some time, and it’s usually the most energetic period you have in about two years. You have more drive to do things, and are enthusiastic about new beginnings. This is a good time to start anything new, although you may have the tendency to start something and then move on to start something else quickly afterwards. Make sure you have physical outlets for the abundance of energy so you don’t get restless and agitated. You’re more impulsive, argumentative, and competitive. You can also be accident-prone during this transit, and get cuts, scrapes, or breaks. If you’re prone to getting headaches, you may get more of them now.

Transit Mars in the 2nd House
When transit Mars is in your 2nd house, you’re driven to have more security in your life. You want to be financially sound, and can work harder at making more money. You may take on a second job, start a side gig, or pursue some sort of money-making venture. The more money you have, the more secure you feel. Conversely, you can also spend more money during this time, not paying attention to how much you’re spending and blowing through money quickly. You may strongly defend your beliefs, identifying with them more. This can be a good time to evaluate your values and make sure they fit with your life now. You want more stability, and are less likely to take any big risks. You keep your nose to the grindstone, working on things you’ve already begun.

Transit Mars in the 3rd House
When transit Mars is in your 3rd house, you’re driven to communicate openly. There’s a lot that you have to say, and you’re going to say it. Any conversations that need to be had, you try to have now. Your mind is much more active, and this can be good for mental projects and intellectual pursuits. You need to stay busy though, otherwise the mental activity will lead to anxiousness. Keep your mind occupied. You can find yourself in a car or bus or train more than usual, traveling short distances. Your schedule is packed, and you’re more social and engaging with others. You’re a little more scatterbrained, and take on many different projects that could be hard to keep track of. You could become active in your neighborhood or community, deal with young people, or start learning something new. If you’re prone to headaches/migraines, you could have more now.

Transit Mars in the 4th House
When transit Mars is in your 4th house, you’re driven to be more comfortable and crave familiarity. You don’t care much for trying new things now, preferring to stick to what you know and have done before. You’re less social and want to spend more time at home or with your family. You can defend your family, but also argue with them more. Your family may require more attention from you for some reason. You can work on your home at this time, or try to buy, sell, or move. If transit Uranus is also in the 4th house, it can happen unexpectedly or suddenly. You can also be more subjective, having a harder time seeing things outside of your own perspective, and are less open to other people.

Transit Mars in the 5th House
When transit Mars is in your 5th house, you’re driven to express yourself. Your creativity surges, and you can take a creative approach to matters and projects. This is a good time to pursue a creative endeavor. You have more energy for fun instead of work, and have a hard time focusing on your duties and responsibilities. Try to take as much time off as you can or give yourself plenty of spare time to do whatever pleases you. Your inner child can come out a little, and you can pick up a new hobby. This is also a good time for love and romance, and you have more energy for both of those things. You’re more flirty, and if single, could have the chance to date many people or meet new suitors. If attached, you can reignite the flame and inject more passion into the relationship.

Transit Mars in the 6th House
When transit Mars is in your 6th house, you’re driven to work. There’s a lot to do and you’re completely focused on getting every little task done. You tackle the basics first, the things that absolutely need to get done before you can do anything else, and your responsibilities. You can take on more projects and duties, and be busier during this time. You may appear scattered, but you want to be busy, otherwise the idle energy will turn into anxiousness. You could have some issues at work with your coworkers, getting into arguments with them, or have a workplace injury. This can be a great time to look for a new job. You also have more energy to tackle health issues, and can become driven to improve your lifestyle.

When transit Mars is in your 7th house, you’re driven to commit and compromise. You want to have more commitment in your life, through your personal and business relationships, and with the projects and appointments you commit yourself to. The idea of commitment isn’t as terrifying as it might usually be. You can butt heads with your loved ones a little more during this time, but you find a way to compromise quickly so it doesn’t drag on for too long. If single, this can be a time where you decide to make a relationship more serious. You can also strive to bring more balance and harmony in your life, needing it to maintain your energy.

When transit Mars is in your 8th house, you’re driven to transform. You’re not satisfied with something in your life, and strive to change it. You could take something old and make it new again. You’re more intense and investigating, and you have the energy to get to the core of any matter. You can pick up on the little things that people do and say, allowing you to make quicker judgments, which is necessary because you likely have to work more with others to get things done right now. You can have disputes with a business partner or over joint finances. You might want to be the one in control of the situation, but total dominance won’t help.

When transit Mars is in your 9th house, you’re driven to expand your life in some way. There’s so much out there in the world for you to experience and learn about, and you want to do something new. You may dream of exploring some faraway land, and if you can travel, go for it. Most of you will likely just explore in your head, read about foreign places, try exotic cuisine, watch foreign films, or meet people from other cultures. This can be a good time to begin learning something new, take a class, or go back to school. You may feel restless if you force yourself to stick to traditional ways and your normal routine. Throw routine out of the window during this transit, and do something unexpected. Be spontaneous. Have a little thrill, no matter how small.

When transit Mars is in your 10th house, you’re driven to succeed. However much success you’ve had, it’s not enough. There’s always more that you can do. Your ambition surges, and you focus on your long-term goals. You’re hard-working and can make realistic plans for how to get what you want. You may focus more on your career than anything else, which can be good for your career, and bad for everything else. It’s a good period for making strides in your career, starting a new business, or embarking on a new career path. You can be recognized for the work you do, or at least, you want to be. The more you accomplish and the more people notice, the more confident you feel. You could have issues with parents, mentors, bosses, or other authority figures.

Transit Mars in the 11th House
When transit Mars is in your 11th house, you’re driven to innovate, dream, and hope. You take a totally different approach to situations, and are more enthusiastic about ideas that are considered futuristic and strange. This is a good time for working in a group that holds the same beliefs you do towards a common goal. Working in a group may be the only way you can accomplish anything during this transit. You can do good humanitarian work during this time, and are quite busy with a packed social calendar. You dream more about your future, and what you’d ideally love to have happen. You can work more towards those dreams, and have more energy and drive to accomplish them.

Transit Mars in the 12th House
When transit Mars is in your 12th house, you’re driven to retreat and reflect. Being around other people can be draining to you right now, and you prefer being alone. Working alone is when you have the best energy, and you want to be out of the spotlight and working behind the scenes where no one will notice you. Your dreams become more prominent, and you can have some wild dreams, find yourself daydreaming more, or conversely, have trouble sleeping. Your imagination can surge, and this can be a creative time. Your intuition can surge as well, though you may not be consciously aware of that. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to rest, replenish, and recover so you’re ready for when transit Mars enters your 1st house and life gets hectic.
